yeah the lovely thing about markdown is the total lack of a standard for it. i thought fatwood was gonna fix that, what happened (it's really goofy that you can't use github-style code fences in the default jekyll configuration on github pages!)

markdown is designed for wiki/forum markup so idk why it would need a standard. just put a mark down link next to the entry field like the bbcode link on these very forums.

gucci void main posted:regex is cool as long as you dont overuse it however, the markdown reference implementation which is as close to a formal spec as you're going to get is built on them, because perl. and that is precisely why "the absolute basics" like nested structures suck dick, i.e. you can't rely on whatever implementation you have supporting them. regular expressions are incapable of expressing these structures and without any other spec everyone is at best left guessing what's supposed to be what...
