4/20 NEVER FORGET posted:

Perhaps it's in part to being there at the time it was shot, but it seems peaceful to me. She was 10~ feet from the entrance to her apartment building on a super busy street corner, taking a nap in the sun. She could have been sitting on the porch of a country home she seemed so comfortable with her surroundings.

I understand how it could be taken explotative now that I think about that and look at it more, that just didn't come immediately to mind. She is obviously not a bum, she had nice shoes and a nice bag, had make-up on, etc. Perhaps if I would have shot it in color it wouldn't have come across so bleak.

I appreciate the input on this, honestly. I still have a lot to learn.

Cool.

What you felt, when you took it, matters.

I'll reopen this when I get to work tomorrow. In the meantime, try to think about what street photography means to you, not to someone else.

FYI I get to work at about 11:30AM PST.

Hey look the thread's back open, please try very hard to not make me want to just close it again and/or gas it.

Never let it be said I don't listen to you guys. I took the pictures and put them up onto a different monitor. I then looked at my pictures on a third monitor and now I know what the hell is going on. Well, at least, I think, I need you guys to confirm.

I have read through enough to learn that I would need to calibrate my monitor, I never knew how badly until I started reading the threads in here.

I think my main monitor is just too old and it's time to upgrade. You all gave me poo poo for the red. Now I agree with you, as I've looked at it on my most modern monitor.

So is it my monitor, or am I color blind?

Your original is fine. Skin is off, and both green and red are still oversaturated in the newest edit.

And now after a couple passes through monitor calibration websites...

Wow.... That's some huge red. Roger Wilco, lesson learned, Calibrate your drat monitor.

I'm afraid to even look back through my stuff now.

I did a street shot that wasn't in black and white with a 10-22mm. I think I did it wrong.

Tough gig posting after some of the stuff on this page (love some of Mannequin's shots) but critique and criticism is totally welcome.

That's happened to me before, once in a museum and once on the street. It is a little annoying. One time I was going along and saw something I thought was really nice, but taken at a particular angle it would work much better. So I got down low and then just as I snapped the picture there was a guy right next to me in the same position taking the same shot. I was like what the hell? I was annoyed and almost said something, but in the end I just moved on.

Are there always that many photographers there or was this part of a class or something?

I'd be annoyed if I went to enjoy the scenery and there were dozens of people crouching around tripods everywhere.
