Wait this wasn't obvious back in Nise? Because I'm fairly sure that Senjougahara went bdsm on him and all that at the beginning.

She tied him to a chair in the abandoned school to protect him and make some unnecessary Evangelion references. But at that point she still hadn't confronted Kaiki and wasn't as expressive as she is now.

I'd say that, by the end of Nise, we understood completely who Senjougahara is and how she acts. There was a little bit more development in the beginning of Tsubasa Tiger, but that's really it. I'm sure we'll get more development in her arc, which I think is next (I think). They cut out Hana, so Koi comes after that (right?) after the next one.

My guess is that Ougi Oshino will have a major role in resolving this problem. Also, since the show has now introduced the capacity for time travel, it appears that Ougi Oshino is quite possibly from the future and was somehow already involved in the resolution.

Looks to be a really good arc, too.

You did wrong, Jack,
rest your soul.
The opening to this arc is pretty amazing, definitely my favorite of Second Season based solely off of their character relevance anyway.
Literally retracing her steps from the first season is pretty apt, given she's pretty desperate for something like that to break the monotony again; she even put on a hat again. The repetition works particularly well, given that Nadeko feels like she's just a sidecharacter that doesn't get development like the mains do- which was, funny enough, entirely true up until this point.

I really like how the overarching theme of time is pervading pretty much everything in S2 so far, one of my bigger worries was that the season would feel less cohesive than Bake or Nise, so it's nice to know I was totally worrying about nothing.

She had a short conversation with Araragi just before Hachikuji's arc started. She's the one who told him about traffic signals and all that stuff about time, which later related to Hachikuji being hit by a car and also the time traveling.

God drat it Araragi stop facetanking everything, you know what happens if you die and unleash the Shinobu. You're a ticking time bomb.

I've finally caught on the 'gatari, and while this arc looks pretty rad, I'm yet to warm to Nadeko. It's not just that she's so submissive that she tends to engineer her own destruction so to instigate a saviour, but it's because she's not fun. She has none of the back-chattiness of the other characters, to bounce her personality off Straight Man Araragi, but instead forces him to drive the events. And he resulted in reverting into yet another gormless harem lead.

This is probably what people used to criticize Hanekawa, but I never disliked her because she played a good Straight Man as well, and her emotions were much more accessible to the audience.

First half of the new episode (11) was so loving dull. I don't find Sengoku an engaging character at all.

Then Shinobu uppercuts Araragi and the episode's redeemed.

The Vampire Punch was amazing. Sengoku is pretty boring. I love the Snake, though. He's one of the few apparitions with interesting and funny personalities. "Where can I find the corpse?" "I dunno." Of course, everything Shinobu says is wonderful. And then the scene where Araragi is making excuses to get Sengoku to sleep over. What a guy.

Nadeko is more interesting here than she was in her Bake arc, for what it's worth.

Shinobu showing up with the shoryuken and putting a much needed verbal smackdown on her submissive moe moe demeanor while non-chalantly dragging an unconscious Araragi to the living room by his legs made the entire arc up to this point worth it :allears:

Actually this entire series so far has been a seemingly endless string of Shinobu being awesome and upstaging everyone else.

No wonder Sengoku resents Shinobu. Not only does she vie for Shinobu's role as Araragi's sidekick/little sister character but she's also the only person to totally dress her down like that. Well the only one she's met thus far.

I don't watch Monogatari but I thought some people in this thread might be interested in this one thousand page key animation book that just went up for pre-order. I have all of the similar books released for Madoka Magica and I can vouch that they are of very good quality. If you like Monogatari and/or like art books, this is very much worth picking up.

You know? I've really liked this show so far, despite all my misgivings I've had early on. While the fanservice can get really  after a while, some of the characters really changing feels like a good payoff. Like, despite all the Hanekawa fatigue I've had early on, Yui Horie REALLY knows how to sell the character coming down to grips with the fact that , lovely upbringing forcing you to reject all the negative aspects of yourself notwithstanding, you need to grow the gently caress up and owe up to the things you've done/caused. Both Shinobu and Mayoi are fun characters who get to be even funnier when you get them to interact with someone as... peculiar as the Araragi.

Also, Holy poo poo, Nadeko: When did you took a turn for the creepier?

That was wonderful. It's been said already, but that was an amazing performance by Hanazawa. I really like seeing that side of Nadeko. It proves that she isn't the dumb, boring, flat Nadeko we knew. poo poo is starting to pick up and I love it. Can't wait for next week.

Most importantly, this episode makes me question Araragi's relationships with his sisters more than ever.

I liked her admitting so quickly that it wasn't the snake but her actual self that caused the outburst. The theme for this season in general seems to be characters being more truthful to themselves.

This is my favourite season of *monogatari and since it's unfortunately coming to an end, will there be more? Is there still lots of material and is the anime doing well enough to continue? I'm worried about another Spice+Wolf scenario where a well-liked novel adaption just disappeared into the abyss.

Btw I find the fan-service rather well done, if that's an attribute fan-service can earn. It's stylish.

The franchise is still very profitable for Aniplex (video discs and music) and Kodansha (original novels plus associated books), so there's a very high chance this series will be adapted to completion baring Nisio deciding to keep writing more (already one book more than planned).

Unlike S+W Monogatari has made huge money for its studio. Niso is also doing really well in general and wants all his work animated (though not exclusively via SHAFT) so Mono isn't going anywhere.
Katanagatari recently got a re airing so all is going well.

The first volume of the BD/DVD release won't come out until Oct 23rd, so it's hard to tell what the sales will be like yet. That said they're unlikely to be under 40k, probably. Considering anything over 10k is a massive hit, this series is probably like printing money. Doubt they'll stop any time soon.

On the book side, Owarimonogatari 1 will be published Oct 23rd, so there are at least 3 more books to animate after this anime season is done. Not to mention goddamn Kizumonogatari.

Man, maybe I'm wrong then. I'm sure he said something to the effect of wanting to see more of his works animated in the same interview Shinbo called dibs on Monogatari. It's been a while since I read it but I was pretty sure...

One day I really want to see SHAFTs records of their planning meetings and what not. They seem to have a remarkable relationship with time management.

Wild-rear end guess out of nowhere: somewhere, there is someone who is not as willing to crack the whip as they should be. They can't have that bad a sense of time, or they'd be fundamentally incapable of animating, and I don't think they're that bad at pacing, relative to the industry as a whole. The only times when they seem to have problems with time management is when it comes to meeting deadlines.

(I don't know why I am thinking so hard about this)
