Perhaps it expels more gasses than it intakes. Your bike may hold the secret to perpetual motion (I read they Siamese the exhaust like that due to packaging).

It just seems a bit weird, it's got two completely separate exhausts, cans and all. And there are plenty of single exhaust kits available, so I think it's just a case of Yamaha going "why? Around the time of all the bad publicity Toyota was receiving about sticky accelerators I saw a beat to poo poo 90's Tacoma with a bumper sticker that read "I'm not speeding, I just can't stop." with a Toyota logo. It amused me.
