Dr Pepper posted:Does anybody know how the Disgaea 3 formulas handle decimals? I haven't looked too into it but I'm going to assume everything is done in floating point (uses decimals until it gets stupidly big) until the final number. The output is likely rounded since HP numbers are likely stored as ints (no decimal places). Most RPGs use ROUNDUP to prevent 0 damage hits, but numbers are stupid big in Disgaea so it might be a normal or ROUNDDOWN so a 1000.9 hit becomes 1000 instead of 1001. That all said during the formula decimals are most likely kept since its "cheaper" in programming to keep them and there is no reason to cut them until the end. Since the end numbers are going to be in the thousands or even millions you don't care about 1 damage. If they do round during various steps I'd be shocked. But I'm not going to pretend I've tested it. I've just programmed a bit and know a bit about other RPGs formulas. Rounding during is mostly done to keep RAM values low and was done on (S)NES era consoles where you had more CPU then RAM, now you don't give a poo poo about a few bytes of RAM.

So I just started D4 postgame, and was wondering which parts of the extra content doesn't require insane grinding/hoop jumping. Like, I read FAQs on how to get to Land of Carnage and it seems insane, but the stuff before that doesn't seems too bad. If I decide to do: -The extra episodes that gives new characters (Dark Hero show and so on) -Mount Ordeal -That Desco and Fuka DLC before calling it quit, how much of a pain is it going to be? Also, is there any DLC beside those extra Fuka/Desco episodes that's really worth it?

The grinding isn't too bad if you use the best maps for it if you're mostly aiming for the extra content DLC. The bonus character fights that you unlock through passing bills progress from a relatively little grind to lots and lots of grind. Land of carnage probably isn't worth it unless you REALLY want top tier weapons. All of this is way easier if you didn't update your game and abuse the duping glitch. Any other DLC should only be bought if you really want those characters (some are pretty powerful though) Can't wait for D D2. It's going to come out right after my interview week and right before my week break.

If they'd put out a comprehensive pack of the D4 dlc (with a bulk discount of course), I'd go for it. But as it stands right now I'm just going to wait for the Vita version which I estimate is going to hit the ground with the dlc as part of the deal.

Yeah probably since that's what they did with the Vita port of 3. Plus hopefully even more content!

Yeah, once 4 got a "with everything and also on Vita" announcement it set a track record that makes it hard for me to even contemplate getting D2 on PS3, DLC or no. Doesn't help that I'm wavering on whether SRPGs (or whatever Disgaea's turned them into) are still in my wheelhouse and have been for close to a year and a half. Also are they ever going to do another Makai game again? (Phantom game, whatever, same thing.)

Personally I would totally be interested in at least some of the DLC if they would actually release it while I am still playing the game rather than so many months past release. Other franchises can get away with that because they're extra storylines that give you reason to come back to the game; in Disgaea's case, the bonus characters and maps aren't actually worth getting back into the game for after you're done with it. I don't recall now how far past release D4's DLC was out but I never ended up getting any of it, admittedly partly because I didn't want to update until I had multiples of every maxed weapon.

Disgaea D2 and the NISA roguelike both look excellent and Ill have pick them up some time early next year. I started with disgaea 3 and enjoyed it a lot but loved 4, HD sprites really make a big difference. Anyone know if pleinair will be in D2?

I don't mind paying a bit extra for DLC I want, rather than just getting it all and having my roster full of characters I don't care about because I feel obligated to unlock everything that's available.

I fired back up into Disgaea 4, which I sort of blame on this thread for popping up so much recently. I'm having a weird phenomena with the network online functionality for visiting senators. Foremost, yes, 'Network' is on, in the settings. It seems I'm neither transmitting nor receiving. I have the same two senators from the same two guys showing up, and it's been about a week of no new records at all. I'm assuming that somehow I'm blocked, and I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to straighten it out.

There's a few online features, you can send one of your characters as a Senator to go visit other player's Dark Assemblies, there's a few challenge modes that have score with leaderboards, and there's the DLC of course.

You can easily skip all the online features though and none of them are really that notable.

I know I'm years late on this but I kind of set aside Disgaea 3 and 4 after scraping past their main stories with lead characters barely making it past lv 120. I know that means I left a lot of 'game' untouched, but I'm getting around to it now (particularly considering how much more good stuff is packed into the Vita D3 over the PS3 copy that's been gathering dust on a shelf). I have a question relative to Disgaea 3, but some background first. One of my favorite units to cook up in both 1 and 2, was a final-tier ghost that had every omega/tera elemental and healing spell, and buffs / debuffs inherited from subordinates via the old learning system. There are two significant differences for 3 and 4 that I can see, if I want to once again cook up a mana regenerating apocalyptic soul loving ghost. First, there's a limit to the number of abilities a unit can carry, so there's not much point in trying to get every spell on the ghost possible. No big deal, I can work with that. Second, the 'inheritance' system isn't what it used to be, and I'm trying to wrap my head around it at the moment. I just simply want to know- if I plan on getting the Tera element / heal spells on that ghost, I'm going to need to have the respective casters ground up to the right level and mana so that they have the abilities I want for the ghost, and then I put the ghost through that unit's 'Class'/'Chara' world in order to obtain them? And then I could go into the ghost's own Class/Chara world to buff him up like I would a weapon in Item World?

I believe it's possible in Disgaea 3 to organize a unit's skills and place unused skills into 'storage'. So you could remove all non-Omega/Tera level spells from the unit's available skill list while still actually knowing them, thus giving you more space. So you could theoretically make a character that knows every single spell and weapon skill in the game still. Going to Class World randomly buffs the unit's stat adjustments, up to either 255% or 300%. You get a +1% for each Dropout you kill and maybe five +1% for killing the Class World President. You can only enter the Class World a maximum of three times per reincarnation though (at Genius level).

I'm aware of that... but since you can't take every possible known ability into the field, there's no point learning up the stuff that'll never be equipped in favor of preferred spells. If anything what I can tell it's a discouragement to not simply have one omnipotent alpha caster, and to have multiple units if you intend to field all spells. quote:Going to Class World randomly buffs the unit's stat adjustments, up to either 255% or 300%. IIRC the Agarest game for the PS3 was the Japanese release with all the sex cut. A lot of sex. It's a mediocre SRPG with anime tits bolted on, and without those it's mediocre completely.

That said I don't think it was terrible or anything, it had a few decent ideas and at least a couple of legitimately funny moments (depending on who you pair up with in the first generation your second gen protagonist could be a ponce who writes out his dramatic speeches and pats himself on the back every time he does something suitably heroic) but it's pretty forgettable.

Honestly Agarest is rather boring to play through and way too grindy for its own good; sometimes need to grind just to get through the main portion of the story, unless you are willing to pay for DLC or something. The difficulty curve varies wildly at times, but you can cheese a whole hell of a lot of boss fights by using the same basic strategy. Of course, if the version on Steam is the same as the NA version, the game should have one critical fix that makes it possible to grind without endangering a True Ending run to begin with - if you go to the game's "Quest" areas and fight battles there, the overworld turn counter won't increment. This makes grinding, even a little bit, a lot less of a pain in the rear end.

I'd like to answer your questions, as I've been trying to play for a few days since it dropped on the EU PSN. But the game always freezes when using certain skills, and I can replicate this consistently. This is after going so far as performing a full system restore and re-downloading the game.
