I think all the trainings said it had to be in good condition so probably just no cracks on the screen and have it power on and it'll be good. TEP isn't required but the reps will probably slam it on your account anyway. I think the verge ran all the numbers and showed all these early upgrade programs are a rip off but Sprint's is the least bad one.

To be fair, I would place it along the same line as leasing a new car. You get the new hotness every X period, but you're paying a premium for it.

So is sprint not getting the 64 Gb note 3? I can't find any info on that one.

If they do it'll probably only be available on sprint.com, I haven't heard anything about getting the 64GB one.

ryanbruce posted:To be fair, I would place it along the same line as leasing a new car. You get the new hotness every X period, but you're paying a premium for it. This is a pretty good analogy - leasing a car basically mandates a down payment as well as monthly payments for the term, then you bring the car back and 'trade it in' for a new car at a massive loss to you since those payments were not equity and the car's trade-in value is not being applied to anything. You're basically renting a car but even more expensively if you include the downpayment. Most of these phone plans are nearly identical - you pay a down payment plus monthly payments for a year, then you give the phone back and start all over again from square one. You build up no equity, which is something even those rent-to-own places (which are basically the same predators as payday loan outfits) grant you to some degree. And if you have a worse deal than goddamn rent-to-own places it's a real poo poo sandwich.

It seems for the latest and greatest you'd pay about 50 bucks in sales tax, as someone stated above as the 'down payment.' Then monthly installments to the tune of like 27 bucks, but you also get a 15 dollar discount on your plan, so like 12 bucks a month? I could be wrong since it's still so new, but it doesn't sound like a terrible deal for a yearly upgrade option. The biggest turnoff I have is giving up your old phone, even if you paid for it. Sprint is definitely making a poo poo ton of money doing this.

I really wanted the Note 3, but I can't justify the cost at this point. Maybe if it had supported all three Sprint LTE bands? How well supported were the previous Note models' unique features (mainly that stylus) with app developers? Rom developers? The 5s will retain its resale value better if I keep it in good condition, so it looks like this will be when I switch to iOS on my EPRP family account.

lol Sprint: July 18th I switch from Everything Data 450 to Unlimited My Way with Everything Data. It appeared to be the same price $(80), but with more minutes. However next bill I find out that employee discounts only apply to data on the new plans, so it ends up costing me $10 more a month than I'm used to, so... Aug. 26th I switch back to Everything Data 450. Today, I check my bill and it's for $110 and says my plan is My All-in with 5GB MHS, wut. Call Sprint, guys says I shouldn't have been able to switch back to Everything Data 450 because they're phasing it out. I verify that the website still shows I can switch to Everything Data 450, so something is royally hosed on their backend. He told me I have to print out the email confirming my switch to Everything Data 450 and show it to a store, but I'm also on hold while he talks to higher ups. lol Sprint NyetscapeNavigator fucked around with this message at 01:58 on Sep 25, 2013 |

Not very happy with my Sprint service so far. The service where I live is no where near as good as I was led to believe. I almost never ever get data service and I wish I could just drop that from my monthly bill and save the $20 at this point. It's useless to have it for me right now. I talked to Sprint Customer Support on Twitter and they claim their towers are getting major upgrades in my town over the next 3 months. I'll drop them next year if things don't improve and go over to Ting.

I finally dumped my EVO LTE for a Galaxy S3. The combination of both the Sprint network and the EVO LTE over the past year has been really frustrating. I know this has come up here from time to time and not everyone agrees, but the EVO's complete inability to multi-task came to a head when I was driving to an important meeting and ended up being late because the EVO LTE couldn't keep Google Maps running GPS for me in the background while I was listening to a podcast at the same time. No warning at all, Maps just closes after a minute or two unless it is on the screen. This broken feature of the phone is normally just an annoyance, for example if I'm streaming a radio station in the background while browsing the Something Awful app, the radio streaming app will just stop running. Or if I open an email, scroll halfway down the screen to read it, then take an incoming call, when I go back to the email it will reload the app and lose my place where I was reading. Or alternately if I'm browsing an SA thread on the Betamax app and have to switch over to a text message or the browser, when I return to SA Betamax it reloads the app and loses my place in the thread. This issue has persisted across every single ROM I've tried on the phone and I've probably tried close to a dozen of them from XDA that all claimed to have solved the multitasking problem. I used a friends GS3 for about 30 minutes a few days ago and tried opening and running all kinds of apps simultaneously and never experienced this multitasking problem that the EVO had where it closed programs almost immediately upon exit. Had I known that the GS3's performance was so vastly superior to the EVO's, I'd have swapped phones a long time ago. I know this isn't entirely a Sprint issue, but I'm hoping that the GS3 will also perform better on LTE because my EVO LTE spent a lot of its time on 3G even though I live in the supposedly most well-built out LTE market (Chicago). Maybe the GS3 will get LTE signals without me constantly having to switch airplane mode on and off.

We've had a couple of people with Photon Qs that will absolutely not connect to LTE. I almost wonder if they're missing a frequency or something. I've actually never seen one work on LTE since they brought our tower online.

I'm in Chicago and sick of the basically non-existant service on Sprint. I'm out of contract and a new billing period started for me on 9/21, which I've not yet paid. If I cancel my service now do I still have to pay for the entire month? I'm guessing yes but figured I'd ask.

I've also seen a number of Evo LTEs where the service just stops working entirely, and it's a 50/50 chance that reprovisioning will fix it, otherwise it needs to be replaced. On that note, are there any killer phones coming out around Q1 2014? I think I'm eligible for an upgrade in January.

No the phone season runs from march until now except for Nexus devices in November. The only device left to come to Sprint is the GNote 3. HTC / Samsung start it off in Spring then Sony Lg and Apple seem to come in in fall.

I've read the OP and searched the thread--and just want to confirm: there's no way for my sister to activate my Verizon iPhone 4S on her Sprint account is there? I thought each CDMA carrier only activated things in ~their database~ but I did see someone online who said Apple flashed their 4S to work on another network.

This is only possible if you clone an existing ESN. This is not legal in the US, and is sometimes considered a crime.

I mean, you get BILLED for the entire month, because you pay a month in advance. But they can't make you pay for when they didn't provide service to you (insert joke about Sprint not providing service to anyone). Now....here's the thing. It is pretty common practice that if you call to cancel your service, that they set it effective the end of the billing cycle, in which case what they told you is true. But, only a moron would do that when you can walk into a Verizon/AT&T/T-Mobile or whatever store and port your Sprint number over, effective the same day. In that case, Sprint owes you the prorated amount for the unused portion of the billing cycle.

If I am indoors, poor data. Sometimes poor signal all around, depending on the age of the building. Texts are fine, but it's not rare for me to get the "oh look a voicemail" and the phone never rang behavior. (It's been like this since 1999, in multiple markets, so I just accept the plausible deniability it gives me as a "feature.") My data used to be faster than my home internet, which is why I've stayed with them so long. But then every other carrier's speeds got so much faster, so much quicker... the 4G is ok, but it's just barely so. It's still the cheapest for what I need, though we'll see how things look when my contract is up. effika fucked around with this message at 23:39 on Sep 27, 2013 |
