You don't get chat, source quality or archives unless you give 8.95 to Canada Cup, again, unironically? I'll catch the youtube screen-captures of it later and pass on watching it live.

I can't believe that people are actually subscribing to this channel just to get high/source streams. It makes sense for EVO, but for this thing? I don't get it. Edit: Team tourney starting. Canada 1 vs US.

If they want to monetize their hd streams, why not? In the end it's their content. Just because this isn't as big as EVO doesn't mean they can't charge for the stream. I'm not gonna buy it since I don't care about quality that much but I hope they let the archived footage be free. I get more pissed off when channels block off their archives to non-subscribers. The quality of play at Canada Cup has been top notch year after year because the tournament is well-run and Lap Chi puts a ton of his own money into attracting international talent. I'm never going to use chat and 720p isn't worth $8.95 to me but I've subbed every year because I want to see it come back next year and I want to see more tournaments like it.

Personally I don't want to see more tournaments where I'm forced to pay a comparatively exorbitant price to watch a pokemon-style, 1 game 5v5 with whatever 10 international players Lap Chi could afford to fly to Canada at a quality that isn't a dreadful twitch transcode. Also, to access archives at all. But maybe I'm the only one that actually prefers breadth of competition to depth of competition. You know, I own a few Broken Tier shirts because as far as fighting game apparel goes they're pretty understated and fairly acceptable to wear outside in certain situations. Neo's clothing line is like... the opposite of that, and the opposite of anything anyone should ever wear. Brett824 fucked around with this message at 22:48 on Sep 27, 2013 |

Anyone doing it can go eat a dick.

Charging for archives is dumb as poo poo, but CanadaCup is good about uploading them to YouTube after the event is over, and if you look at my previous post, Twitch has never cared about stopping you from getting the source videos regardless of whether or not they're behind a paywall.

A lot of streamers block archives because twitch ads pay poo poo compared to youtube. As long as they put stuff up on youtube promptly I don't mind.

A piece I've been working on this year about competitive fighting game players has been put up on CNN. Thought you folks might be interested as some notable players are involved: http://cnnphotos.blogs.cnn.com/2013/09/27/competitive-gamers-bond-as-a-community/ If this is the wrong place, my bad. That being said, that Super Salty Excuses shirt is probably the single ugliest shirt I have ever seen and I'm hoping someone new makes it into top 8 for Marvel this time.
