"...That too is according to my calculations."
I really enjoy large casts for the times when I have multiple friends who enjoy fightgames round, and we can do stuff like choose characters/teams based on a theme or other silly things.

And then I can play P4A or SG with a smaller cast and a better personal understanding of what characters do. Then, when that gets a bit tiresome I can do the former again.

It's not as though people only play a single fighting game, or play all fighting games with the same mindset. Or at least I hope not.

In that regard I think I could enjoy All Star Battle a whole lot. Shame I don't have a PS3.

Does anyone know if oRyu's unblockable is still in the version of ST that's included in HDR?

I'm asking because I can't seem to get it to come out on SFIIX but it works on the anniversary edition for PS2 and for some reason I though that HDR was based on SFIIX but maybe Sirlin just worked on both of them.

It's pretty fun without the strikers; but with the strikers...man, they break the game clean in half.

It's not working out too well...
I don't mean to continue the roster argument, but aren't giant rosters a result of multiple sequels? Street Fighter 2 started out with 8 characters, but with the subsequent versions, the roster grew to 16 (not counting the old version characters). MK1 only had 7 characters, but MK2 had 12, and MK3 had 15, later 24 in UMK3.

On another note, is there a good starting point for the Tekken series? I'd been thinking about picking up TTT2, but it's been brought up that the game is really difficult. Is there an earlier entry that works better as a jumping-on point? I’ve read that Tekken 4 wasn’t very good, but thought about picking up Tekken 3 or Tekken 6, since both are pretty cheap now.

I think that the only way to get into a new game series is to play the most current version of it. No other versions will prepare you as well as the most current release, because then you'll get used to whatever frame data or nerf changes happened between games.

I would suggest TTT2 because it has good, actually playable netcode. Tekken Revolution is F2P but is PS3 only and seems like its a bit of a sandbox for Namco to use for implementing new mechanics that may or may not make their way into the main series going forward.

Probably the most recent, Tekken Tag 2 is your best bet. Fight Lab will teach you the very basics and nothing more. These games are hard and don't do poo poo in the tutorial department. Prepare to put work in to get anything out.

To take an extreme example: would fighting game tournaments become more skillful if, instead of isolating competition to specific games, we go the way of chess boxing? Yes, it's difficult to be good at. But it's a hell of a lot of fun to play at lower skill levels.

Did anyone ever figure out *why* that move is unblockable sometimes and whether there's a way to do it consistently or is it just random?

I'd have to guess it's similar to Sent's unblockable in mvc2, where a later frame of the move doesn't have the "force block" hitbox??

IIRC it has to do with the frame skip. I don't remember the full explanation though.

violence is who I am, loser
I've heard two explanations, one is that it's just frame skipping nonsense, the second is that air tatsu is active on frame 1, it takes a frame to start your block and which player gets processed first in a frame is determined randomly so you get either "P1 Tatsu + P2 Block = Block" or "P2 Walks Back + P1 Tatsu = Hit". Both kinda make sense but I don't know why anyone would make up the latter so I'll go with that.

Just pointing out that you yourself were a victim of Tekken's nonsensical design (from something that's been the same since T1 even, and is only mildly offensive as far as illogical design decisions go) and it's more or less the only fighting game you play, so you have no room to talk.
