It's a keyboard I would feel good about bringing into my office.

I hear ya, I do like the all black look with no lettering on the ultimate. I was wondering if you had used the other two since I have both and would have something to compare it to. I like the backlight since I work in a pretty dark office most of the time.

Have you seen the CODE? http://codekeyboards.com/

It's a really nice marriage of the minimalism and professionalism of the Das, and backlighting. It's a PHENOMENAL board.

Yeah, that's why I got the Nighthawk.

Probably the least hideous of the bunch and it looks real good in person. It's relatively matte which is exactly what I wanted at the time vs the Das' glossiness.

I've had one (with blues) for six months or so and have no complaints. Works well. It's a little thicker than the Razer BlackWidow I had, but feels a lot sturdier.

Any recommendations for bluetooth keyboards for home use? I'm having trouble finding anything that isn't either super tiny or has flattened keys. So far the best looking possibilities I've found are these 2, but I was really hoping for something with a numpad and proper keys:

That is a nice looking board, good size. I have not seen a reversed space bar before, I might have to see if mine will do that and still clear.

Warning: if your board has Costar stabilizers, it's a slightly tricky operation. I was extra cautious and grabbed a pair of needlenose pliers for the job. The metal bar of the stabilizer doesn't release straight upwards, so don't just yank it. Pulling the alt keys was also very helpful. Don't break your stabilizer or your board will feel like poo poo.

For anyone in Canada looking for a Cherry Brown board, Memory Express has the Coolermaster Quickfire XT with brown switches on sale for $54.99 after rebate for today only. I use the Cherry Red version on my work PC and have had no complaints about it. It looks really minimalist and professional, and every time someone comes by they comments and want to try typing on it. It's not cheap or flimsy at all, so for that price it's a steal.

All of my keyboards would be better if they were smaller and lacked the tenkey, even better with a separate tenkey.

My current keyboard is a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. Can't really think of much to say about it, which is good, I guess.
Thing is, I'm selling my computer and I haven't been able to decide if I'm going to build a replacement, so I may just stick with my Samsung Note 8. I'm mostly going to be cruising the web, fooling around with one of the Android IDEs, and playing some old DOS games.

I'd like to avoid wireless keyboards because :tinfoil:, but should I just buy a mini USB adapter for my current keyboard, or do you think there's a particular keyboard to which I should treat myself?

That being said, should I stick with what I have, or are there particular more comfortable or just plain cooler options that you recommend?
Then again, I've got the keyboard from the OP, so I guess I'm set.

So I've recently found out the name for the type of keyboard I've been trying to find for quite some time now; more specifically the type of keycap: "Spherical". I grew up typing on older equipment that used these keys and I've found a few loose keyboards that use this type of key, but unfortunately they're all proprietary monstrosities designed for mainframes, consoles, and specialist equipment (Not five feet from me now are the keyboards from an IBM Displaywriter and a Burroughs mainframe). Nothing is for a conventional PC. I've found one PC keyboard of this type on offer from the Japanese firm Topre, but they're charging a frankly preposterous amount of money for it, and it's not a thing of beauty at all and furthermore has goddamn windows keys on it, and I'm not paying $340 for a keyboard just to pry keys off it like the $9 specials on office machines.

Is there some reliable source of reasonably-priced spherical-key keyboards with a mechanical action (I'm a fan of the IBM Buckling Spring action myself but everyone seems to have a hard-on for Cherry or Alps keyswitches these days), or is there some model to keep an eye out for on Ebay that is PC-compatible, since I sincerely doubt that random Ebay sellers are carefully describing equally random second-hand keyboards based on what keycap style they have; hell, you're lucky if they list the interface or even photograph the connector! Perhaps to confuse matters even more I'm completely counter to the popular trend of teeny-tiny keyboards without the ten-key and so-on and prefer great huge keyboards like the Gateway AnyKey 2000 or 122-key terminal emulator keyboards (I'm currently using the cheap-and-cheerful BosCom 122-key).

Spherical keycaps are also referred to as "DSA" profile (as opposed to DCS for cylindrical.)

There's This out of stock keycap set or blank keycaps available for Cherry MX switches. The second link there also has clips to put under keys you don't want to use like the Windows key without leaving the keycap off.

Otherwise hang out on The group buys board of Geekhack for a DSA group buy, or find someone to buy some off of.

Really like the Ducky Mini. Would be a blast to use on my 9-5 IT job. But it would set me back 150 bucks, and I would have to import it from Finland which also means additioal custom costs. And then I would need a decent cap set for it cus lolnordiclegends. So... for that price I can start thinking about getting a slightly used HHKBPro... drrppprpr

I have one, they're really nice. They're basically Deck 82 key boards but with more sane font. The main thing to do when you get it is open it up and take the caps off and remove the layer of saran wrap they put under the keycaps to act as spill protection (it's hooked around soldered leads on the back of the pcb). After that the blacks feel really smooth and the board is nice. Some of the keys are odd shapes but they're a nice PBT double shot and dyesubbed combo that lets the light through and keeps its texture longer than ABS. The only thing I don't love about it is that it's 2 key rollover, but it's great for typing and just not amazing for games.
