Standard models come in white labcoats for inexplicable reasons.
Latest test server patch notes, since I haven't seen them here yet.

quote:

This patch continues our bug-fix drive. It also contains updates to the preview dodge changes that you saw in FC.31.20130824.10.

Release Notes:

Preview (these will not be part of the next live build):

Field Surge: This power is no longer damaged when you try to break free from holds.

Personal Force Field: This power is no longer damaged when you try to break free from holds.

Lightning Reflexes: This power no longer grants Dodge Rating. This power now grants 30/40/50% more chance to dodge.

Night Warrior: This power no longer grants Dodge Rating. This power now grants 10/15/20% more chance to dodge.

Way of the Warrior: This power no longer grants Dodge Rating. This power now grants 15/20/25% more chance to dodge.

*NEW POWER* Fluidity: This power is a block replacer. While active it increases your Dodge Chance and grants Avoidance Rating.

*NEW ADVANTAGE* Flow like the River: If Fluidity is maintained for at least 2 seconds, its bonuses will decay over 10 seconds once you stop maintaining it. 3 Points.

Quarry: This power now grants 10% base dodge and +5% base Avoidance per stack (down from 15% and 7.5% respectively). Additionally, the maximum bonus per stack of this power has been reduced to 20 per stack (down from 30).

Targeting Computer: The Crit Chance and Severity bonus of this power now ranks up when the power does. 5/7.5/10% Crit Chance and 10/12.5/15% Critical Severity while locked on.

Costumes:

Female characters now have access to a second Beast Leg variant. This variant was previously restricted to NPCs.

Other:

Unity HQ: Fixed a hole in the ceiling of the teleporter room.

All looks pretty good to me, though I'm not sure why the field surge and PFF stuff is in the preview second since that looks like a straight bug fix to me. I'm still wondering if they'll change Parry w/ Elusive Monk, though. Since it's now the only power in the game still providing dodge rating rather than flat chance. Seems like that's an exception to the apparent design philosophy here that probably shouldn't be left to stand.

no fucks given.
Alright goony build gods, perhaps you can guide me in a direction. I just hit 40 with a character that I'd like to be technology based ranged DPS. I've been using Pulse Beam rifle for single target and Orbital Cannon for AoE. Other powers I have that I'm digging the hell out of right now:

Pulse Beam Rifle
Orbital Canon
Implosion Engine
Support Drones
Quarry
Concentration
Ego Surge w/ Nimble Mind
Evasive Maneuvers
MSA

My question is, for ranged DPS what primary/secondaries should I aim for? Also, any suggestions on powers to add to (or swap with) for a more efficient build?

I keep trying to come up with some sort of Force Cascade-spam build for Meteor Maiden yet nothing seems to be clicking. Thinking about going the other way and making her a Force-based tank.

Assuming the following powers how would you choose superstats and specializations?

Not related to superstats or specialisations, but get rid of force eruption. It's terrible. As in, so terrible that even at rank 3 with an offensive passive and 8 stacks of concentration it won't kill an even level henchman. It's useful solely for the advantage that gives a damage bonus, and only sort of even then.

Also probably swap IDF for concentration because more damage = more threat which will help you keep up with the ridiculous damage builds. And you likely don't need the extra protection from IDF.

Might not be so effective after the next patch as it is now because of the changes to dodge and dodge related powers. Swap Quarry out for Lightning Reflexes or anything else if you want to be more tanky.

Is it just me or is it not really viable to have a melee character in dps stance with an offensive passive in alerts/boss fights? In hybrid stance with regen I get hit for half my health at a time, and that only works because I heal like a madman. If I had Pestilence instead I would constantly be dying, I think.

I am the sound of cats and hairballs.
Melee DPS characters can be fine with some form of self healing, even with an offensive passive. You'd really only run into problems on Gravitar, even then you can teleport out and lunge back in and be ok. Most everything else you can just block. Maybe its due to TK blades being stupidly good at self healing, but that's just my experience.

Edit: If you were some sort of bestial supernatural build, Devour Essence is great and I think it's buffed by pestilence as well.

You could put together a fairly sturdy melee DPS character using Unarmed Martial Arts, I think. My Punchline character has 70ish percent dodge and avoidance with Regen as a passive. Swapping to an offensive passive wouldn't be a huge loss in survivability for her.

The upcoming dodge changes might be bad news for her, though.

Mmm yeah if you're getting that through dodge/avoidance RATING, via gear I suppose, don't expect that to work nearly as well once that change is implemented.

Munitions is generally despised on nemeses because it does tons of knockback, moves around a ton with Breakaway Shot, and uses Lightning Reflexes.

Man, I still show people that video, to go with the story of the Draysha bug.

I kind of hate playing Champions, now - partly because I played the everloving poo poo out of it before, and partly because all the lockbox/alert stuff feels like I'm being served banner ads. It's pretty tragic, because as far as I can tell, the underlying game is tons better than it was then.

When I get home, I'll see if I can find the video of the time we dragged the Teleiosaur back to spawn, that was my other favorite Champions moment. Well that, and getting the term 'RPist' banned from the official forums.

Speaking as a returning 2010 player, if you can filter out the "let's print money" aspect of lockboxes, it really is a million times better than it used to be. Alerts are pretty fun most of the time, they're a nice short sharp burst of teaming in a game that otherwise doesn't require or encourage it very much. Almost all the powers are greatly improved from where they used to be, not so much in terms of raw power (although there is certainly that aspect) but they're genuinely working better and in more entertaining ways.

Did alerts with goons for several hours afterwards and am pretty drat impressed with this build's output. The only thing I'm thinking of changing with the free level 40 retcon is to swap out Frenzy for Venomous Breath (again). I'd get no damage bonus for it being in melee stance but the huge cone on it would be a lot easier to use in group content than a 10-foot melee cone.

I have never heard of this problem, you should probably open a ticket about it (hit H, it's on there). Since it works okay on PTS it seems likely it's some problem with your client's installation, PTS has a separate installation. If you are loading a saved UI, it may be that you have various chat channels filtered and saved that way?

WarLocke - well, PSS gets you +40 over a secondary (at max level) ... but I have a number of characters for whom the highest stat is NOT the Primary super stat.

E.g. a Strength primary Con secondary, more Con for Juggernaut. Or a Dex primary, Int secondary with more Int, to fuel Quarry.

So just *slot* more Pre, but PSS whatever makes the most sense for the character tree-wise, so that you get the best of both worlds. It's only +40, even R4 stat mods at 40 give you more than that...

I'm actually dealing with Frenzy's cone so far. It's not really a big deal when soloing, because then you can fairly easily maneuver to get 2-3 mobs in range. The real problem is when doing a team alert and mobs are running everywhere and half the screen is covered in graphic effects and in the middle of all of this you are chasing guys around trying to claw them... :cripes:

+Offense (a ton)
+Defense
+Crit chance

You might have to "waste" 2 spec points if you just never, ever heal anybody ever, or you never ever hold anything ever. Hold is a pretty nebulous term, and I believe it applies to any type of effect that is broken by Z-mashing.

Yeah, cones are fine when you're on your own and enemies spawn in nice little groups of four you can hit easily. But in an alert or other team situation you usually may as well not bother trying to aoe anything with most of this game's melee sets.

Edit: Hold is the game's generic catch all term for any form of control. There's root which stops movement but lets you activate powers, and there's disable which stops powers but lets you move. Anything else is hold, as far as I'm aware, regardless of the term used in the power description.

Also possibly worth noting, the +offense from presence spec isn't counted for the purposes of Aggressive Stance if you take that.

How does the game handle stacking multiple auras (Radiant Protection, Sentinel/Sentry/Arbiter, etc)?

I've got Meteor Maiden sitting in the power house right now, thinking of changing her into a 'ranged DPS plus AoRP/IDF' character, basically built for ranged damage except with her passive and form chosen to help with alerts and big lair fights and junk. Something like this:

Level 32: Ego Surge
Level 35: Sonic Device
Level 38: Rebirth

Travel Powers:
Level 6: Flight (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 35: Teleportation (Rank 2, Rank 3)

Specializations:
Ego: Force of Will (2/2)
Ego: Insight (3/3)
Ego: Aggression (2/2)
Ego: Sixth Sense (3/3)
Guardian: Fortified Gear (3/3)
Guardian: Ruthless (2/2)
Guardian: Tenacious (2/2)
Guardian: The Best Defense (3/3)
Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
Vindicator: The Rush of Battle (3/3)
Vindicator: Modified Gear (2/2)
Mastery: Ego Mastery (1/1)

And yeah, I know Force Eruption is kind of meh, but sometime it's easier to use a PBAoE than try to get a cone oriented, and I had an extra power slot.

I tried a couple other builds with her (combinations of bubble and/or healing aura builds with Presence and Sentinel spec) but it seems like healing auras draw a ton of aggro and bubbling people would be hectic and/or repetitive, so I figured 'shoot stuff while passively giving resistance' would play better.

I just checked in-game, both live and PTS.

Best Defense says: You gain 100% of your Defense as Offense.
Aggressive Stance says: Increases your Defense by 20% of your Offense value.

Nothing about from items. Maybe I'm missing something.

Now, in PRE - Repurpose is only adjusting healing from items. Fortified Gear is only for items. Quite a few do that.
