I always expected carrier stuff to look like the stuff I was used to with like 18x the number of lights, knobs, and switches. Also more bolts to anchor strings to tie to said switches. The Enterprise guys I work with seem to validate this image.

MMFN Lardass failed his A-school pfa. He's also a shitbag when it comes to school and repeatedly dozes off in study hours. Last night someone woke him up by poking the back of his head with a pointer stick, instead of yelling at him like they have for the last 4 months. Next morning we all have to get briefed on harassment because this rear end in a top hat "felt he was being hazed."

If you think as a first-tour junior you're going to have an input on testing, forget it. You're going to have NAVSEA / NR so far up your rear end you're going to poo poo inspection clipboards. Plan for 13 hour shifts watching a drain bottle. That being said, if anything looks funny or at all not as briefed, STOP AND TELL SOMEONE. If you assume everything is installed backwards and wired wrong you will inevitably be vindicated. One of my junior guys got given a draft procedure for an initial calibration from the bubbas (not newcon boat but first-in-class for this particular cabinet) that turned out to be hosed, he thought it was hosed, motored through anyway, it ended up all jacked and he lost a chevron. Don't be that guy. And if they brief a procedure, and give halt conditions, and you see one of those conditions, loving tell someone.

Granted I'm at the fine USS MARF, but it's the EXACT same thing here. Even if you are being paranoid and it turns out to be nothing, better to err on the side of caution, than ignore it or think it will be fine...then you are at mast because you had a lack of knowledge and didn't ask the question, even though you saw indications you didn't quite understand.

I did it in a few days as staff. Then again, I also already knew how all of the systems worked and the plant differences so ymmv. I will briefly point out that shipyard workers will gently caress you every time if they think it will keep them out of trouble. I once had to go verify some motor controllers we were taking custody of were clean and had no loose connections. I did a cursory look and agreed that the equipment had no obvious damage after reinstallation. Several days later, I am in a critique with a shipyard worker claiming that I verified that every motor controller had been rewired correctly and that I had signed off on it. Turns out a pump had spun backwards and eaten itself up a bit. My chief stood up, called the guy a liar, then sat back down. Shipyard worker got fired. I got an apology from some important shipyard dude that had a gnarly beard and was wearing a Hawaiian shirt.

A while back, I came into this forum asking for information about the Navy's nuclear programs (NR Engineer, Instructor, etc.). I'd like to thank all of you for that information - as of yesterday afternoon, I was accepted as an instructor at the Navy's nuclear power school. I report for ODS 2 February and will likely be in the Charleston area by mid- to late March, so if any of you are going to be in the area, please let me know! It would be great to meet new people there who also know the area. I'm nervous because I've never lived anywhere but in my home state and near my family, but I'm excited for the opportunity and challenge.
