Goddammit my vet stopped carrying Trifexis, argh. They only carry Sentinel in the shop now which Tater's been on before and I know doesn't work for fleas. Think I'm gonna have to call around find a new vet at this point :/

Or is there another flea/tick/heartworm med that actually kills fleas? I know Sentinel only sterilizes the fleas which is why I had found fleas on him while he was on it.

Could you ask another vet office to just fill the Trifexis order without going there? Do pet drugs work like a a human prescription?

Yeah I think that's what I'll have to do.

They still offer it through an online store but at at $30 markup, and going to another vet means a fecal analysis for heartworm first which would make the difference moot. Guess I'm in a vice either way. Annoying. That's $30 that could go toward a stupid toy for him to ignore :argh:

They usually do a blood test to check for heartworms.

We usually tell people to try 1800PetMeds or something and if they go to another vet we don't mind faxing their recent heartworm tests over.

As for just fleas there's also Comfortis. I don't have dogs, so I'm just going off of what other people do. Personally, I give my cat's Revolution v:shobon:v

Neigé came back from the dog park limping again, so guess who's on restricted activity again for several days. I need to be more proactive about stuff like making her use the ramp and not leaping off the furniture. Why you gotta make me cramp your style, dog?

I'm having the same problem. Neige is a corgi, right? (Or am I remembering someone else's dog?) What kind of ramp do you have? I've tried a couple of different steps for my corgi but none of them are made for stubby-legged dogs.

Yeah, she's a Cardigan. I ended up pulling the trigger on this one after deliberating for ages. She kind of goes halfway up it and then uses it as a step between the floor and bed, but that's better than a blind leap. Part of the reason she's been ignoring it lately is that I switched which side it was on and now she has Opinions about which side of the bed she wants to get onto. So I guess don't do that, or spend some time going back over "this is how we get on the bed" with the clicker and treats if you ever switch.

Lefty Lugubrious

Yeah, I think I'm going to try out this ramp, because like you said, one small hop is way better than him jumping (well, in his case it's "elaborately leaping") onto/off of the couch.

Mine does fecal for heartworms for whatever reason but that's their choice I guess.

As far as just fleas, probably not a great idea since we practically live at the dog park and Tater's predilection for eating poop whenever my back is turned. Damned dog.

At any rate I bit the bullet and ordered the Trifexis anyway. Oh well.

There is no heartworm test that I'm aware of that uses feces. They're all blood based.

Intestinal parasites probably, you cans also find lungworms depending on the type of fecal test.

Or, you know, eating it. Dogs eat their own poo poo and have great coats, they must be onto something.

Pi loves those and I like them because they're significantly less annoying than squeaky toys. The first one Pi got he ripped to shreds right away and then looked sad it didn't go oink anymore. I got him a new one and he was Very Careful not to damage it and it lasted a long time.

Husker had a big plush hedgehog that made that noise, and I hated it. It also rattled, though, and he mostly just shook it, so I didn't have to hear the grunting much.

1. Put wet food in microwave
2. Heat until it smells so bad you want to gag
3. Check it's not so thermonuclear that it will burn your cat
4. Serve

We've been doing that with 3 different wet food flavors to see which one stinks the most. I got him to eat beef fancy feast this morning (it was REALLY stinky) after heating up the shower to make a sauna for him.

I'm going to wake him up and see if he'll eat again. He's so congested you can hear his little nose bubble :(

My aunt's dog has one of those, and the last time we were staying up there, I was sleeping on the couch downstairs.

I was awakened in the middle of the night by 20+ pounds of ugly Cav/Bichon landing on me with that goddamn grunty pig. THANKS, COOPER.

I think I hate the grunty toys because when I was a kid my dad brought home just the squawker out of one that his coworker's dog had destroyed. My sister used to sneak up on me and squawk it and scare the poo poo out of me. So I sliced it up with a kitchen knife. The end.

Milo ate some dry food this AM, so I can't complain too much. Ollie tries to play with him and he just yells and then they stare at each other for 5 minutes and walk away. Hopefully when he feels better he'll be up for playing.

Meanwhile, Ollie was licking his butt with a 2" piece of paper hanging out of it. I guess that's why he threw up yesterday. Gross.

I think I'm the opposite. I love grunty toys and rattle toys are alright, but the bottle crushers and the really super high squeaks are like nails on a chalkboard. Normal squeakers are fine, but the piercing shrill ones are ick. Thank god the only dog I have that likes either of those is Ires and she'd rather have a bone over anything else anyway.

There are rumours of snow next month though that could be weather scaremongering.

Anyway Artie's so grubby/ yellow that he'll never camouflage with snow.

His sister is beautiful white and qualified for Crufts on Saturday so Artie's the poor grubby relation :3:
