NPC trainers definitely have IVs (generally above average if it's a "medium" trainer most of the way through the game) and all the way up to perfect IVs if it's a "hard" trainer (Red, Cynthia in Unova, etc.) I think certain ones might have EVs too but I don't really remember. Zore posted:Storyline pokemon don't have any EVs or IVs remember. And it has crap for coverage, and when in Sword Forme its defenses are like paper. They absolutely have IVs, and I'm pretty sure the Champion, whose Tyrantrum was so ineffectual to me, has EVs too. It's also not like my Aegislash was EV trained or IV bred either; in fact, from the looks of the graph it's only got like 60 or so Defense EV, and the Judge says its stats are overall average with the best in HP and no other notable stats. Your first statement is invalid. I can't speak for its coverage because I havn't even begun to investigate egg moves or TMs for it. .... Anyway, about the new breeding mechanics: I can confirm that male w/ hidden ability + ditto = babies with hidden ability. It's not 100%, though; out of 5 torchics, 4 had Speed Boost and 1 had Blaze. It may still be the old 60/20/20 split, just with the male passing down through dittos now. Zurai fucked around with this message at 08:29 on Oct 14, 2013 |

The incidental writing in this game is pretty loving amazing, and I say that as someone who typically can't stand Nintendo localizations. Go get em ex-Bug Catcher. Also I haven't progressed too far in the story, but so far it is kind of creepy with the rampant class struggle tones and what I'm assuming is the antagonist being some sort of youth socialism movement and all these loving people asking for tips with the underlying question being "Why should I" and I dunno it might turn into nothing but it seems a really weird thing to find in a kids game.

I finally saw and caught my first shiny Pokemon ever. It was a Haunter, which doesn't look super different from the normal one. Looking at one of the imgur albums a while back in the thread, it looks like shiny Mega Gengar gets to look super cool, so I do have that to look forward to.

And I say this as someone who typically loves Nintendo localizations.

Hah, sounds like one of the teams team working on the nuts and bolts of the game changed the mechanics and didn't tell the teams working on promotions. Soon the world shall be flooded with speed bust Torchics.

I like how most (all?) caves or whatnot ("dungeon" isn't really a great term but I'm not thinking of the right word) have someone who can heal your pokemon for you. I know BW (or at least BW2, it's been a while since I played Black) had Nurses/Doctors in places, but they weren't really everywhere. Or maybe they were, I don't remember. Either way, I still like that they continued it. I hate leaving a cave or whatever just to find a pokemon center. e: Is there a Pokemon-Amie guide somewhere? I have no idea what I'm doing, and the bonuses sound cool and I want them. myron cope fucked around with this message at 09:05 on Oct 14, 2013 |

I don't know man, BW2 had those healers literally everywhere since things seemed to hit a lot harder in Gen 5 for some reason. It'd get to the point where you'd fight two trainers and have to heal up at the nearby doctor/nurse constantly. I much prefer them going back to a more drawn out damage curve. So I am new to the daycare system and I have a male mawile with intimidate and a female mawile with the nature I want, what are the chances of getting a baby with the right nature/ability? Or is nature random for eggs?

To go into more detail, in the case where you have two like species of Pokemon in the nursery, the father will pass down its ability in most cases. However, if you have a mother mating with an off species Pokemon, the mother's ability gets passed down in most cases.

Random question but I guess I never knew the answer to it: Say you let a pokemon stay un-evolved for a while(past the point when it would normally evolve). When you finally do evolve it, are you forever out of stat points that you would of gained while being in the higher evolution? Example: Azurill is being stubborn with the happiness evolution, if it takes him a while to finally evolve into maril-azumarill, is it just gimped?

Quick Edit: With move relearning and easy EV resetting, the only way I can see permanently gimping a pokemon is to either delete/overwrite an egg move, or to keep it from evolving based on levelup until it's reached level 100 and can no longer level up. I could be missing something, though.

It's fun at first but Repel doesn't stop it, so in a later route I'm constantly getting ambushed by Durants.

Okay wait, I've been power breeding a ton of new Mawile with the one Nerdbot gave me (Adamant female with Intimidate), and it seems that Everstone actually seems to make you pass down the ability too. This may require more testing... But the gist here is that Game Freak is pushing the boundaries on how convenient everything is and it feels great.
