No, what I'm saying is that 4.3 Didn't fix my lag and it was only rooting/manually trimming using lagfix that did.
It may have just been the factory reset that did it though, so I wanted to see if anyone had had any comparable experiences .

I gotcha. I think I read that people with well-used 4.2 devices still needed to run it, as 4.3 didn't do a full trim pass on first boot. Going to step out of that part of the discussion though, since I can't say with certainty.

I have a Sony Xperia Tablet (SGP311), I tried to flash it with FlashTool using an official SGP321 ROM without unlocking the boot loader or rooting, and it seems to of bricked. I can get the notification light to stay on, but I cannot boot into anything, not even recovery mode. I cannot enter flash mode either to reflash it. Is there anything I can do to salvage this? Or just try the return and play dumb route.

Just got a new Nexus 7 and I'm loving it so far. One minor gripe is that the volume rocker doesn't change functionality when orientation changes to landscape. So when I have it in landscape, I would kind of expect the down button to raise the volume and the up button to lower it. Some quick googling seems to indicate that this is actually how it works on some tablets, so is there a way to invert the volume rocker when orientation changes?

Why would it do that?

so the volume meter goes in the direction of the button that you pressed.

Yup.

I still find myself stumbling over that. When I'm in landscape, I instinctively want the volume to go in the direction of the button I'm pressing. Having it go the opposite direction just trips me up for a second.

Maybe they should just flip the volume indicator so that it's always at a right angle to the volume rocker depending on orientation. That way, you wouldn't subconsciously try to make an association between the direction of the volume and which button you are pressing.

I guess I've just never thought of it that way. I just had it in my mind that pushing on the up part always raised the volume. Having it switch would be confusing as hell.

I can certainly see the point, but I would be really confused if the same button I was pressing to do one thing did the exact opposite when I flipped the tablet 90 degrees.

Same here.
The volume up part of the rocker raises the volume. The indicator has nothing to do with which button is which.

But what if you have a device that has no frame of reference as to which way is up? Every way you hold it is the correct way, so the "volume up" would be contextual.

There is obviously an up, it just happens that you can rotate it any way.

The "up" is much less obvious on the new Nexus 7 than it was on the old one, since the Asus logo and initial setup are oriented for portrait, but the Nexus logo and stereo speakers are oriented for landscape. That last part makes it particularly confusing at first, since the speakers are laid out for one orientation but the buttons to control them are laid out for another. It's easy enough to get used to and isn't a huge deal, but the design is definitely a bit weird.

My Nexus 7 started showing a blue splotch in the middle and I'm trying to register it on the Asus website. I put in the serial number and it changes all the drop downs to be nexus 7 2013. I press OK and it says my serial is wrong. What the gently caress.

Edit: Nevermind. Turns out the serial number isn't what's listed in the OS. It's the SSN on the box and it has a O not a zero.

I bought this one. It works just fine, but I haven't been particularly impressed with it. The swivel is just a snap like you'd find on a piece of clothing and the case ends up making the whole thing really thick. It was cheap and available in mut

I should have (and may still, since it's only $5) buy this Poetic one. I have that Poetic one on my Nexus 7 (2012) and it's excellent. Pretty thin and when you close the lid it snaps over the back and holds itself closed rather than just laying limply on top. I can't say for sure that the HD+ version is as good, but I don't see why it wouldn't be.

I usually leave my phone on my qi pad overnight and the N7 while Im at work. Its more than doable.

Unless you are home for a few days and leave the phone on the nightstand instead of the charging pad and then realize its shut off at 0% battery. :(

I don't use screen protectors, so I haven't looked into them at all. I will say that the screen on the HD+ is not very resistant to gunk getting on it compared to other devices I've used so it may be worthwhile to you if it would keep it really clean.

Hello guys, I'm new. First off, while I know a middling amount about computers, I've never been able to afford a smart phone or anything like that since they came out, so I don't know poo poo here other than just some things I know you can do on them. One of my friends was nice enough to give me an older Android tablet, however I think it may be one of the crappy models but hey it was free. The best I can tell you right now is it's a Sylvania and it's running Android version DG2.20.

I've messed with it a bit, but I've quickly discovered I can't do poo poo but browse the internet until I can get a microSD card. It refuses to download anything, even official apps as far as I can tell onto its ~500mb built in memory. Anyway, it's giving me some problems. It likes to freeze up, usually if I just give it a few minutes it's good, but since being careful to give it time to load after hitting a button it seems better about it. The biggest thing it's doing that's pissing me off is it's WiFi. I expect it to suck and drop out easily especially upstairs, but after it drops out a time or two, it literally loses my home network and can't find it no matter how close to the router I am. Disable/Reenable wifi won't fix it, I basically have to reboot it every time the connection drops out. I've got a friend who knows a good bit about this stuff and says since it's physically in good shape doing...I forgot what she said but something about rooting and booting a new OS onto it should fix a lot of the poo poo right up.

I'm not even sure why I'm posting this. I read a lot of ebooks on my laptop regularly, so that's one thing I know this tablet would be cool for. What else can it do? Can it emulate SNES or Gameboy? If that question is illegal, let me know and I'll edit it out, but I'm not asking about where or how to get something like roms I'm just curious if it's a thing people can get it to do because I've heard about people playing older games on their phones and such. Also anything else I should know?

You can probably find another "friend" giving away a less lovely tablet or an older ebook reader you'd be happier with. I got that exact same tablet for $70 years ago and it is worth less than nothing. You won't get a ROM (usually the saving grace for crap devices) because no one gives a poo poo about it.

I do know it's so laggy and choppy that reading a website at all is impossible even if it doesn't drop the wifi. So no updated OS or anything like that has any chance of hell of making this thing at least a passable loving around tablet? Like, unironically, I should trade it for drugs? I thought it was at least a neat thing to have, but I can honestly read just fine on my laptop. I was planning on buying a smart phone soon anyway if I get this one job.

It looks like you own a device with an 800 mhz single core ARMv6 CPU, 256 MB of RAM and a simple 800x480 display. It basically has the specs of a lower end Android smartphone from 2009 or so paired to a larger screen.

It's not going to be good for much of anything, that's why the dude was willing to give it to you for free. At least you didn't need to shell out $99 for it like he did.

If you trade it to someone for drugs they might have to be on drugs themselves at the time in order to see it as a worthy trade.

In seriousness, that tablet is essentially a Raspberry Pi with slightly better CPU but a GPU that doesn't have HD video decoding acceleration. If you're really techy you could probably clear it out to another form of linux or sell it to someone who would do such a thing for like $10-$15 tops.
