Little Busters was best when it was a bromance simulator. Also, for those of you who were borderline on the Anime, Little Busters ~Refrain~ is going on right now, and it seems like they upped the overall animation quality a bit (plus, Rin2/Refrain has much less Komari). (Someone needs to make a thread for it: "Little Busters ~Refrain~: gently caress Doors")

I will also second LB having a great soundtrack.

I just finished MLA, because sleeping is for when you're not busy. It's been a long strange trip, so let me belch my opinions regarding the ending at you:

The single event that hit me the hardest was Tama's final, uh, "appearance". Most of the other deaths got to me a little, and I lost it at the diary part of ~the vacation~, but this was just totally uncalled for in all the very best ways. I'd like to buy the writers a drink and then punch them in the throat.

BETA World is going to be just fine. Yuuko is still around, that hive had a G-Element facility in it, and the plans to abandon Earth have been put on indefinite hold. If having a deranged genius make future-tech out of alien honeycomb isn't reassuring, I don't know what is.

Normal World looks terrible because it's even more of a romcom fever-dream than Extra was, and Takeru has lost all his development and seemingly his memories. But! He hasn't forgotten all of everything, and he still has the potential for growth. He doesn't need those awful memories anyway, because Kasumi is clearly the same person and can help him grow up the same way he helped her, and then they can all play lacrosse together, forever:kheldragar:

Now to sit back and wait for someone else to start the journey :kimchi:

Umineko chapter 2:

I didn't understand it the first time through, but now it's really clear how Maria's occult obsession fits in with her relationship with her mother. They made it quite blatant.

I really can't find anything wrong with this game, except for maybe length. The music is beyond fantastic and is used to great effect, the writing is top notch and the characters are really well written, though not always likable for reasons obvious to anyone who's at least read the majority of chapter 1. These are some really despicable and pitiful people.

Specifically in regards to this chapter, I'm surprised how physically prevalent Beatrice is. I expected her to be a major fore front character in the later chapters, but not chapter 2.

Umineko really couldn't have happened to a more deserving group of people. The Ushiromiya family was pretty much destined for a murder mystery given their unique blend of spite, hidden motivations, and cunning.

Beatrice's appearance early in the chapter is a reflection of the different priorities EP2 keeps in comparison to EP1. Exactly what those priorities are and why they're important is a matter for you to figure out yourself, of course. Umineko's pretty good about giving you the tools to solve its mysteries on your own, so feel free to toss out theories even this early in the game.

Maria is pretty much :unsmith: incarnate. It's really impressive to me just how well her behavior and background are interlinked, it can't be easy to write a character like that. Also I don't remember exactly when it happens (spoilers for I think chapter 5-6ish?) , but the reveal that all that UUU-UUUing was a "spell to get along with my mother who I love" is really amazing. It just fits so perfectly with her character and it is heart-rending to watch Rosa get so angry at the UUUing when Maria is just trying to be happy with her mom :smith:

Then allow me to speculate.

Chapter 1 is just a dry run for Beatrice. She really didn't expect anything too interesting beyond what was already planned, so she just went through the motions, killing when the time came. Then she meets Battler. Her straightforwards, pre-planned victory isn't good enough for her anymore. She needs TOTAL victory, and that means subduing Battler. Thus chapter 2 begins and she decides to take a more active role in the proceedings. I think that's why she's a much more prevalent character here. Where I am now (Kanon bringing her food), 5 people have already visually determined her presence, as opposed to 1 (Maria) the first time.

I don't think the other witch, Bernkatskel(?) has done anything yet, but she probably does eventually. That much is pretty obvious from the first episode ???? talk between Beatrice and her. I wonder what kind of hints she gives...

I want to brutal murder that girl. Yes, even knowing her circumstances. I know her complex isn't her fault at all (also Beatrice is real, so...), holy gently caress is she annoying when being smug.

But I will agree that she is a really well written character.

Welcome to the internet. In other really obvious news, Mangagamer just released a lovely nukige. I kept an eye on this fact because usually a release comes along with the announcement of the release date of their next biggish game, however the game they dated is also a lovely nukige. At least its release date is just a week away so maybe something that isn't poo poo will be announced after it.

They release worthwhile stuff every now and then. Its just the nukiges tend to be short and light on text, and thus take less time and money to translate, so they outnumber the good games by a fair margin. Both Chou Dengeki Stryker and D2b Vs Deardrops are in scripting, so they should be out sooner or later.

I'm not sure exactly. It seems to basically be a crossover narrative between it and KiraKira, that serves as even more epilogue for them. Basically the protagonist from Deardrops winds up working with Kirari for some reason and things happen from there.

Hatoful Boyfriend is probably the best otome vn out there, not like that's saying much but still.

And you can patch Higurashi's art with the PS2 sprites, and optionally the backgrounds. That makes a world of difference.

Unfortunately KnS 2 and Da Capo 3 are both just "picked up" which presumably means they got the license but haven't even begun translation. And both are 30-50 hours games according to VNDB, so they're likely a year or more away from completion.

Also the nukige companies are pretty cool with letting MG do the scripting/text insertion/whatever whereas typically for other companies MG does translating, gives it to the Japanese company for insertion into the game, and they get to it when they get to it because the English market sucks compared to the Japanese one (though I think Overdrive is better about it than others). So MG can pump out lovely softhouse seal titles at a blistering rate since they're just given the game and can do everything in-house.

Umineko episode three since I finally finished it. I also really like how the adult characters aren't useless at all hell one of them is the main villain of this arc.

Ange has the best introduction in the series thus far. I was really confused on how she apparently never aged between 1986 and 1998 but when Bernkastel showed up it'll all fell into place.

I'm curious to know what the hell did Beatrice say to eradicate Eva Beatrice. Perhaps like Beato said, she was never a real witch to begin with, thus the red words had no real bearing.. I hope. It was interesting to see a more human side of Beato as well, even if part of it was just a facade.

I'm guessing that the next episode will be focusing on Ange and Kyrie's family. Not exactly looking forward to it since people have warned me already that the episode is slow and poorly paced until it goes back to the main story and Episode 3 was consistently exciting through most of the way.

Also, what was the BGM that played during the final parts of Eva Beatrice vs Battler/Beatrice and the very end of Ep. 3's ??? ? Would look them up myself if I had the music box unlocked or another way of looking them up without running into either plot or music spoilers.

LB! Mio Wowee another crazy one, and mercifully short on the heartbreaking misery. Didn't expect her turning out to be an entertaining :iceburn: machine. I've really been enjoying the creeping sensation of "wrongness" that's come up in Mio's and Kurugaya's routes as the fidelity of the world (whatever it is) has broken down. Haven't played too many VNs but it's something that I've experienced in several of them and it's just cool every time. Maybe it has to do with the format. Anyway, now that I've collected all of the chaos emeralds or whatever I guess it's back to finish out Rin's route and then on to whatever the hell Refrain is. Ohhhhhhhhh boy.

Also, I think it's something that happens in the common route on your sixth go-through no matter whose route you're taking but I'm bummed that the puppet show didn't happen because I was hyped about it. :(
