Happened to both my 405s and happened to the 306. stump posted:Yeah that was the problem with the Volcane, swapping in a whole rear axle unit wasn't too bad, done it by myself in a few evenings on the drive using four old scissor jacks to ease it into place. Bleeding the brakes was the biggest pain. I loving hate bleeding brakes. That's a common 80s/90s Peugeot/Citroen problem. The shaft seals start to go after about 10-12 years and let water into the bearings. New seals are only a few pounds, but unfortunately you don't notice anything is wrong until it's too late - the arms either seize solid, or the bearings wear the tube away causing camber.

It was a base model with a couple options. Sticker price was around $18k, and I couldn't believe how nice it was. Nice wheels, good stereo with a gigantor touch screen, sunroof, the works. It drove brilliantly. It cornered very quickly, the brakes were great, and the shifter was the best I've used in a while. The downside? It was REALLY slow. I could give up speed for that level of comfort and value though.

Just got the new Ford Focus ST3 I have been driving it for about 2 weeks now I have to say its insanely fun, its constantly egging you on I have to be really careful not to get flashed by a speed camera or caught by a traffic cop. Leather Recardo seats are really comfortable and they look more sofisticated than the boy racer looking ones with yellow or red patches. There is a bit of torque steer however once you get used to it you barely notice it, also the ford connect works perfectly for me it bluetooth connects with my phone and will play through my playlist and interupts the music when I receive a phone call. I've had alot of people comment on just how clearly they can hear me whilst I'm driving. Its in the Tangerine scream colour and came with the red brake pads. I really love the car however I will say on my second day of owning it a Focus RS pulled up alongside me at a set of traffic lights then proceeded to totally dominate me, my excuse is that I'm not the racing type haha. Like alot of people say the turning circle is wide I really noticed this when I park at the gym or I'm going shopping however its not life changing just means you have to reverse once instead of doing tight turns in one go. All in all I'm loving it I have started to notice quite a few Fiesta ST's on the streets of London, where as I am not too keen on them they do look nice.

Went to the last Test and Tune night at the local drag track. First time at a drag strip too. Best run in my Stock (aside from tune) was my first at 15.541 @93.72 MPH. Getting first gear to have any traction is quite a balancing act in these cars. A statement echoed by the other STs in attendance. Thinking the first run was the best due to still warm tires and the sun still being out. Second run was 15.83 with traction control accidentally on and the wife in the car. Third and final was 15.77, after sitting for 2 hours, traction control off and just me. And holy poo poo does the clutch smell terrible by the end of a run. And the fact that the trap speed is still 93MPH+ tells me that you are either insanely traction limited, and/or you're slipping the clutch to an insane amount. A 93MPH trap should easily go with a 15.0 or even 14.5 ET.

In Colorado Around 6000ft. I'm not joking when I said traction was an issue. Personally I think the Cobb stage 1 map is a bit too torquey in first gear. I'll post the rest of the times when I get home in a bit. It was my first time on a drag strip period, so it was pretty comedy when I didn't know where/how to stage. Edit: I know the guys running stage 3 are eating clutches so they are a bit weak. Double Edit: Numbers! Really the only thing I can think is the tires were warmer on the first run from the drive over. Also think I'm holding my gears a bit past the power band Best Run: 15.541 @ 93.72 RT: .831 60: 2.732 330: 6.919 1/8: 10.258 @74.95 1000: 13.126 Second Best: 15.712 @ 93.37 RT: .609 60: 2.678 330: 6.990 1/8: 10.373 @74.46 1000: 13.284 Worst (Traction Control On, passenger in car) 15.836 @ 92.51 RT: .670 60: 2.699 330: 7.039 1/8: 10.448 @73.74 1000: 13.384 Laranzu fucked around with this message at 23:00 on Oct 10, 2013 |

I had a thing happen with mine. I had a small tire puncture that I didn't feel like fixing myself, so I let the dealership do it. They removed the tire, put a kevlar patch over the hole, and put a plug in it, remounted and balanced everything just fine. What makes this a story is that the service tech dropped his phone in my car. The manager called me up and I went out to look for it, but couldn't find it. I went to my cousin's house later and heard the ringtone, but still couldn't find it, and the manager had left for the day so I couldn't get her to keep calling it. About a half hour later, the tech and his girlfriend show up at my cousin's house as they have apparently been tracking the phone the whole time, chasing me down. I guess they even called the cops to find out what to do, which was kind of weird to hear, but whatever. The phone was in the usual place between the seat and center console, and I found a set of keys I had lost there as well, so I guess it was all worth it in the end.

Went out and test drove a Fiesta ST today and was pleasantly surprised since I didn't like the Focus ST that much. Since I've been driving a Miata for almost 8 years now, the Focus felt bloated and difficult to see out of (and the lol turn radius.) The only complaint I have is that the steering is really weird when doing quick movements (lag? salesman mentioned something about electronic steering) and that redline comes up real fast. Didn't play too much with the electronics and dash stuff though. The Recaros are amazing but they are almost too small for my lats. I think I might have found my next car though. The miata is getting long in the tooth and my life is changing to need more room. edit: Any good Fiesta ST forums? I know that's asking a lot, but usually there is something half-decent as long as you avoid certain areas. AkrisD fucked around with this message at 04:10 on Oct 12, 2013 |

The twisted beam shifts from side to side and it takes a while to go from like full passenger to full driver in a left turn to right turn transition. I've probably ranted about it before, but the Fiesta would be the best FWD car if it had the multi-link rear suspension from the Focus. Check my other posts in this thread.

I noticed this when I got my Golf after having the GLI with the lovely trailing arm suspension. The Golf suspension is just so much quicker doing any sort of turns. I do miss my Recarros though.

Does anyone else with a Focus ST and navigation system have a problem with the audio being really really quiet? I couldn't find a thing to adjust that with, either.

The audio specifically for the nav function or for everything? Because my nav is incredibly loud haha. You use the same volume knob to adjust everything, depending on what function you're currently using.

You have to turn the volume knob while she is speaking. Can be a pain cause you have to listen for it and react quickly. Which means she is always too loud or too quiet =( There may be another way but /effort

My '13 Focus ST is at the dealer getting the new motor mounts put in. It's also developed a nasty habit of the parking brake light going on since the handle itself is as sensitive as a 19-year-old virgin.

lovely design. As far as I remember there's a rather significant clunk shifting from 1-2 under hard acceleration with the first gen mounts.

They're stock mounts from the base Focus, which don't really have to hold down an engine that's putting out a lot of power. The 2013 models are pretty much the only ones with the problem, the 2014s have the new ones in already. Here's an example. The RMM is doing a terrible job. Supposedly the new rear motor mount is based off of the CP-E, the other mounts from another Ford car I can't remember off of the top of my head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr6ssEdlAl4

saw my first Fiesta ST in the wild today, at a small-town dealership of all places ( nothing yet at the four dealers in my city ). Probably going to shoot out a few e-mails soon and see how much I'd be putting down to get one ordered ... there's not much within a two or three-hour drive that's not black with a moonroof. I just want one in Performance Blue with no frills, except maybe the Recaros.

Humor me please, because if the answer is obvious I just don't know any better, but why would Ford bother with computer wizardry rather than just slapping a real LSD into the Focus St and calling it a day? Do they think that most people won't notice the difference and prefer to save a few bucks?

Basically, everything they need in terms of measuring wheel speeds and applying the brakes to give an LSD effect is already in there as part of other systems like ABS, traction control and stability control. All they have to do is instruct it to do what's needed.
