Final boss for P3 may be one of my favorites ever. There's nothing like a tough endurance run to finish off a RPG with. Once you win, you breathe a sigh of relief and a bump to your chest in victory.

Good as new.
I don't know how you're at the end of the game and get killed by the Reaper in one hit. I could kill him in the 50's. I actually grinded on him to gain a crap ton of levels in the mid-game.

I was only level ~60ish for the final boss and I didn't have any trouble. That said I was playing P3P, so I could actually control the party members.

Minato is level 75 and the rest of my party members are 68-72, and the Reaper still outspeeds and wipes everyone except me  The Thunder Reign strategy kinda bombs if you can't actually knock him down before he gets his turn.

I wish I could, but I'm stuck with FES. I'd be able to breeze through if I could tell my goddamn healers to spam Mediarama instead of Diarahan :argh:

The problem is none of the 10 or however many initial forms are any challenge whatsoever so it ends up feeling less like an endurance boss and more like a "waste 20-30 minutes of my time before the real fight starts" boss. I don't want to imagine dying near the end of that fight more than once.

I routinely wipe on Chariot, Justice, and Hanged Man, and the first 13 phases take about 2 hours combined, with the last one taking another 2 :smithicide:

It's based entirely off of how often Nyx decides to use Almighty Attack. Everything else is a cinch, but Almighty Attack does about 130 damage to everyone per use. My healers are loving idiots who never ever use Mediarama, opting to use Diarahan instead, so I have to constantly keep buffing everyone's defense and healing on my own until they get everyone out of critical HP levels, or Nyx decides to stop owning everyone. I can do 400 damage with a Ragnarok from Surt, and Mitsuru's Mind Charged Bufudynes do 220, it's just I'm never in a position to attack. Of course once I get to Death, everything goes out the window where even my strongest attack does less than 150, with the rest of my party barely squeaking out 90s, while I have to contend with Moonless Gown and more goddamn Almighty Attacks

Please tell me I've somehow accidentally activated some sort of bizarre copy-protection that halves your HP and damage or something:sigh:

If you are having this much trouble, maybe you should go do the Star and Devil S-links and fuse Helel and Satan and abuse their skill.
Bonus points if you get a Helel with Victory Cry. You will need to be about level 90 to do this though.
Fake Edit: Don't use Armageddon until the final form obviously.

If I were a high enough level to fuse Helel I probably wouldn't be having this problem in the first place :v:
I did totally forget that fusion skills existed, though. Are any particularly useful (besides Armageddon, obviously)?

The first one you get with Orpheus and Apsaras is very good (50% HP recovery and Masukukaja) for the beginning parts of the game.

Thor and Take Mikazuchi can kinda reproduce Odin's Thunder Reign with a lower chance of shock if you've been too lazy to get him. The rest (aside from Armageddon) is not all that great.

Vishnu and Ananta's Infinity negates all damage, including almighty, for a turn but it's another really high level one that costs a fortune to cast. Not that this is a problem if you make Daisoujou and/or Alice and poke your head in Monad for a bit.

It's been several years since I've tried it, but depending I think the order of your characters you should always get two moves before he gets one. So as long as its the MC first you should be able to paralyze him and then knock him down with the second person. Maybe it depends on who you use and what their Agility is? If memory serves me correctly, I was running with Akihiko, Yukari, and Mitsuru at the time.

It's personas for the sake of Persona. In normal English, I'd probably use personae as the plural. No idea what's technically right though.

Edit: I'm completely second guessing myself now. The games might use persona as plural too...

The games use personas as the plural and arcana as a singular word, even though it's technically personae and arcanum in English respectively (though personas is pretty widely accepted).

It is also absolutely required for the Elizabeth fight. You literally cannot win unless you have access to it.

Per Webster's, at least, the two plurals have different meanings:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/persona
.. with the -s plural being appropriate for the use in the games,
and the -ae related to acting and the like.

Just started Persona 2, and am really liking it so far. But holy balls is the system more complicated thatn P3 and P4.

Couple of system questions though:

1) Am I right that there’s no Press Turn system in this? It seems like weaknesses just deal more damage since you give all your orders in the beginning
2) I seem to be recouping HP/MP after a fight. Is this normally supposed to happen? I’m playing Normal.
3) Does forming a Pact do anything other than granting you access to getting money/items/rumors? Also, once you ask a demon once for info and they don’t have any is it worth it ever to ask them again?
4) Other than elemental affinities, is it ever worth it not to do a Fusion attack? They seem to be flat out better and cause mutations

Finally, I just want to get this straight, in order to get any new Persona you have get Arcana cards which then let you summon new Persona. There’s no fusion right? Your older persona I assume you either keep around or dump at Rank 8 for the possibility of an item or such.

There’s just a lot of information to absorb all at once. Also, is there a way to turn off the battle animations?

1). There is no Press Turn system.
2). Unless it's been changed in the PSP release, I'm pretty sure you only regain SP from walking around.
3). If you form a pact with a demon and then later on in a different battle negotiate with that demon for cards you will receive Free Tarots. Free Tarots can be changed into any arcana you want, making them extremely valuable.
4). You want to try to end battles with Fusion attacks pretty much 100% of the time.
5?). Yes you just utilize your available arcana cards to summon new personas.

I think there's an option to turn off the animations in the options menu, but I'll have to look again just to be sure. You can turn off the cut-ins that show up when you're about to do a fusion attack, at least. :shobon:

Overclocked is great. However while the extra content is nice unless you're a huge fan of the original DS version (like me) you probably can pass on it.

But if you never played the original there's no reason not to get it. It's kinda janky mechanically (mostly only revolving around escort missions) but otherwise it's a solid experience with a lot of replay value and some cool endings.

Eh, I don't know. The P4 cast and their lack of training, Chie and Kanji excepted wouldn't lend themselves for interesting fight scenes. Maybe it'll work in P3 because most characters has training for their weapon of choices, with the exception of Shinjiro and Junpei, who adhere to the school of hitting them with whatever you have on hand, and Ken and Koromaru, who just don't fit.

P4A feels really out of place, seeing all the characters fight like experts when they could barely swing their weapons before. I didn't get the sense that they were supposed to be any good at fighting at all, and their Personas did 100% of the actual attacking.
