LUMINARY UPPERCUT!!

Resident Evil Relevations is still one of the better 3DS retail games on the market, and if you wanted an old school survivor horror, $10 is practically a steal. I totally recommend it.

Really? I don't see one when I try and purchase it. All it says is there's not enough memory, has a button to free up memory, or go back. The download later button is (I think) only for downloading while in sleep mode, it still needs enough space to complete the purchase.

This assumes they won't just flat out stop when they are finished shoveling out the crap with a decent title here and there, like they have GB and GBC VC on the 3DS.

Just flat out stopped. There's been a handful of GBC releases and maybe 2 or 3 GB releases in my region for the whole year, which even if they feel like avoiding the mainline Pokemon games and stuff like that for some reason, is stupid, because there's still a shitload of decent, not so major stuff they could be putting up.

It's bizarre that we still don't have stuff like the GBC Pokemon Puzzle Challenge or practically anything of note third party wise on either of those areas of the store.

Just for reference, here's a list of all the GB/C games Nintendo published outside of Japan, minus all the games that are already on the VC:

quote:

F-1 Race
Play Action Football
Solar Striker
Super R.C. Pro-Am
Yoshi
Nintendo World Cup (Published by Technos in Japan)
Wave Race
Yoshi's Cookie
Tetris 2
Top Rank Tennis
Wario Blast: Featuring Bomberman!
Donkey Kong Land
Killer Instinct
Vegas Stakes
Donkey Kong Land 2
Pokémon Blue
Pokémon Red
Pokémon Green (Japan Only)
Tetris Attack
Tetris Blast
Donkey Kong Land III
Major League Baseball
Tetris Plus (Published by Jaleco in Japan)
Game Boy Camera
James Bond 007
Pokémon Trading Card Game
Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition
Quest for Camelot
Tetris DX
Beauty and the Beast: A Boardgame Adventure
Ken Griffey, Jr.'s Slugfest
Mario Golf (out in NA/Japan, not out in PAL-land)
Mickey's Racing Adventure
NBA 3 on 3 Featuring Kobe Bryant
Pokémon Gold
Pokémon Pinball
Pokémon Silver
R-Type DX
Super Mario Bros. Deluxe
Bugs Bunny: Crazy Castle 3 (Published by Kemco in Japan)
Bionic Commando: Elite Forces
Crystalis
Donkey Kong Country
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble
Mario Tennis
Pokémon Crystal
Pokémon Puzzle Challenge
Warlocked
Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite!

Now, here's the list again minus all the stuff they don't own, either because it's licensed or because it wasn't their game to begin with:

quote:

F-1 Race
Play Action Football
Solar Striker
Yoshi
Wave Race
Donkey Kong Land
Donkey Kong Land 2
Pokémon Blue
Pokémon Red
Pokémon Green (Japan Only)
Donkey Kong Land III
Game Boy Camera
Pokémon Trading Card Game
Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition
Mario Golf (still not out in PAL-land)
Pokémon Gold
Pokémon Pinball
Pokémon Silver
Super Mario Bros. Deluxe
Donkey Kong Country
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble
Mario Tennis
Pokémon Crystal
Pokémon Puzzle Challenge

It's easy to speculate on why a lot of those games haven't been released yet, and the number of games that don't seem to have any real impediments for release seems quite small (Mario Tennis/Golf, Pokemon Pinball/TCG/Panepon, junk like Wave Race), but even so, they really oughta hurry up.

I'm genuinely curious, was it possible to trade pokemon between generations of systems, and if so, would it theoretically be possible to bring a pokemon all the way from the original gameboy to the latest 3ds release (I.E. trading to a gba, then a ds then a 3ds, maybe with some intermediate steps)?

They don't get the internet at all. Maybe it's because of their lineage as a toy company, I dunno.

You couldn't get anything from the GB/C games to the GBA games. But theoretically you'll be able to get a GBA pokemon to the 3DS when Pokemon Bank starts up.

Is the Pokemon Bank and internet thing? Because if so, I wouldn't hold your breath. Also, how would Pokemon X/Y be for someone almost completely new at the series. Because when I read about them, it sounds like they get exponentially more complicated. I played a little bit of the early ones on emulators and liked the gameplay, but it is the kinda thing suited for mobile gaming, so I never got deep into them, sitting at my computer.

Not directly.

You have to bounce the GBA mon to 4th gen then to Black/White, THEN to the Bank and THEN to X/Y.

And yes, X/Y has kind of a lot of optional mechanics even for a Pokemon game, but if you want to just catch things and make them throw folding chairs at other things you can get by just fine on that.

How is Resident Evil: Revelations without the Circle Pad Pro? I'm having trouble deciding on whether to get the 3DS or Wii U version. On the one hand, it's hard to pass up on a $10 game, but I'd either have to delete some games in order to make room or buy a new card (which I want to do eventually anyway), and I don't want to bother getting a CPP. On the other hand, I could take advantage of the digital promotion points for the Wii U version and have better (I assume) controls. But my Wii U had that blinking red light issue the other day and now I'm scared to use it.

I'm so paralyzed by indecision that I'm probably just going to end up missing out on this deal altogether.

About the same as you'd expect.

If you can aim with your left thumb, you're fine. I've been trained by every other game in existence that aiming is for the right thumb so I found it kind of janky and hard to play, but my experience isn't universal, apparently.

Then again people in this thread will tell you Kid Icarus is perfectly playable, so...

It's passable but seriously annoying. If I remember correctly without the CCP you have to enter first person mode in order to adjust camera, which means you are aiming and can't move. It's not a deal breaker but gets really annoying in boss fights where you have to stop and turn around in order to face the enemy.

Well, the Gameboy Pokemon games have a lot of now-permanent fixtures missing from the games. RBG even calculates character stats differently. G/S don't have natures, which are fairly important. Then there's a bunch of hidden stuff. But yeah, people who like Pokemon will tend to get pretty much any Pokemon main game so selling the originals with the disclaimer that they're stand alone and cannot be traded up to the new ones would make them a decent amount of money.

Really, whoever is doing all of the promotional videos for the VC releases is doing an amazing job of showing the games off. I don't watch all of them, but of the ones I have watched, all of them have shown either some in-game secret or how to deal with thr places people sometimes get stuck in some of the games.

Yeah, I've actually played both (though it's been like a year since I played the 3DS version) but I couldn't really tell if the 3DS controls would bother me enough over the course of the full game to make me wish I had just shelled out the extra $10 for the Wii U version and the points I would get with it.

I'll probably download and replay the demos when I get home later today but all things considered I'm leaning towards the Wii U version right now. Assuming the thing doesn't die on me soon.

You can just copy everything over to a new SD card and you won't lose anything.

I don't think the system supports anything above 16GB cards, but I could be wrong. How much you need depends on how much you'll be buying from the eShop (remember that this includes DLC). Someone in the 3DS General Discussion thread posted a few days ago about a sale on SD cards on Amazon, so maybe look into that.
