Thanks for not marking the rim width, Rota. :argh: Depending on where you assume the rim to be on the inside, measuring yields anywhere from 7.5" to 8.5". poo poo.

Measure it from where the tire bead sits across to the opposite side.

Yeah, it's not inconceivable that something like an '06 might need one, I just usually expect a clutch to last at least a decade unless it's been abused in some way. I agree with you on the town driving and the like - mileage is probably less of a factor, as it seems most higher-mileage cars do a lot of it sat on motorways. I'll always take condition over the odometer reading when I'm choosing a car.

Edit: Looking around at adverts, seeing quite a few people advertising WRXs as STIs. Not sure if it's deliberate or if they genuinely don't know the difference.

Yeah, I went full stupid there for a minute and couldn't decide where the bead would sit. Luckily the PO has the car on CarDomain so I got the entire list of specs- 17x8 (must be what the "1780" mark implied). Wish I would've done that months ago.

A lot of people in Australia advertise their RX as Not WRX or WRX lookalike with a WRX price. I saw 1 car where someone had cut the front apart and painted the radiator black to make it look like it had a front mount intercooler, and several with STI badges.

If Arizona is a state that test tailpipe emissions with a Sniffer, then you are looking at getting a CAT.

I've got all my parts, but I've read that they use a sniffer, or don't. They may have no AWD dynos or rolling roads or whatever we call them outside of a power developing system and just check your ECU for a "no cat error" was it p0420? :v: And that it's possible to tune around that.

I can't wait to visit a couple tuning shops in an actual real city I am living in. At least it's not CA where they'd kill my car on sight!

Nothing, I was worried coming from AL a couple years ago. If the ecu is ready and no CEL's and you have a gas cap then you pass. My STi has no emission controls and smokes a bit and passes no problem

These are cars very specifically advertised as STIs, but clearly not (and not registered as such). I suspect it's just non-specialist dealers who are unaware of the specifics. The keyword mining happens a lot too, but I kind of just accept that as being the way the game's played.

It's all good, I appreciate the help though.

As it turns out, the Rota Torque is a discontinued wheel so finding one of the right size and color is gonna be tricky. The place I thought I found one at (racinglab) was out of stock and didn't tell me until a few hours ago- I've ordered one in whatever dark color wheeldude will be able to find, so here's hoping.

When I buy new wheels in the spring, how do I make sure the wheel is gonna be around for a while? This sucks. :(

RS 5 spokes clear 4 pots for what it's worth.

I'm gonna be putting my winter tires on today, two questions:

How do I mount the wheels onto the hub? Hand tighten in the air, drop and torque?

Do I need to rebalance at all?

You can get a set of steelies for $230 from Tire Rack and then match up whatever tire. Should be in the $6-700 range. I'm sure you could find one season used winter wheel/tires on various Subaru sites/ebay/craigslist for much cheaper though.

You are way overthinking.

Take wheel off, put new one, put lugs on studs, tighten down in star pattern, drop car, repeat. Drive around a bit, tighten again.

Take the sparks out if they're still in. Otherwise yeah, you just need to turn that crank gear over until it lines up. With the cams loose all the valves are closed, and when the crank is lined up the pistons should all be half way up/down so you can spin the cam gears all the way around without worrying about any piston/valve interaction. Just make sure the crank is lined up first.

Yes. Looking at your video, the passenger side is loose. The drivers sides I can't really tell 100% but if it feels the same way then it's not loaded.

Also Take the timing belt guard thing off the Crank pulley. There are two separate marking on it, and I can't tell if you have the correct one lined up.
