Great depression occurs fascism spreads like wildfire across the continent, recession occurs nowadays and fascist parties are on the rise. Thing is people like to blame others for their hardships. Ehh, the Chinese don't have any allies even in their own backyard worth mentioning and the lead up to WWI probably would have gone differently if all the great powers had nukes. They have imperial ambitions in southeast Asia but no real means of acting on it, especially since that ambition has caused most of its neighbors to flock to the US for protection.

As someone who lives in Austria I have to agree to the trend of this - but not because of the reason you think. I mean, yes, In Austria we have the strong bias of being nazis, etc. And we do have a policital partly - namely the Free Party of Austria - that tends a lot towards the right side of things, and in the latest election the ended up with around 25%, which is the third place; while our leading parties - basically the socialist and conservatives - lost a lot of voters. But this happens because of two things: 1. Populism 2. People are loving annoyed As you might imagine they have very nice posters with things like "Out of the EU" and "The Euro is bad for us" as well as a strong hate against foreigners. And people vote them; but only because our current coalition sucks rear end. Like, literally. And everyone knows, if they gently caress up this time again, the Free Party of Austria will be in the first or second place. But soon they will see that you cannot build a party around populism and stupid things. So...I am not sure. The politic here has some serious issues, and as long as that isn't fixed, that so called "facism", which really just acts as another election poster, will be on the rise.
