Watch out! I'll attract you too!
I've been away from the thread and not posting due to not drinking, and then when I picked up drinking again, I was slow to pick back up posting.

Highlights from the past 3 months.

Brewery Vivant Trebuchet is a treat of a DIPA, but for the price it's not a regular buy for me.
Jester King Funk Metal was an awesome blend of funky tart and roasty stout with an awesome tart cherry vibe as well.
Stone Vertical Epic (I know, but my wife wanted to try them too) 07, and 11 are the only good ones, 06 and 08 weren't bad, 10 and 12 were kinda terrible. 9 was forgettable at best.
Goose Island Gillian - I've been waiting for this to be bottled since it was Scully when the WBC, CBC and Chicago Craft Beer Week all coincided. It was excellent, lightly tart, great fresh strawberry right on the front. I can't imagine the strawberry will last too long when kept though (if the 2011 Madame Rose I had recently is any indication), so drink it now.
Thomas Hardy 2007 - Completely uncarbonated, tasted like caramelized figs with toffee and Pedro Jimenez.

I feel your pain. Beer is expensive and good stuff a lot tougher to come by. Depending on where you are determines the "best of the worst" If i need to party hard on the cheap I go for Lucky or Brewhouse, as I'm west coast. Lucky can be realy hit or miss though. Moosehead is also a good enough offering, same with Big Rock. But why would you buy a 2-4 of that whn you could find a case of something solid for the same price?.

I was just in Alexandria, VA for work so I stopped by the Total Wine for more Breakfast Stout goodness. I go to checkout and notice this old couple with two bottles of Enjoy By. "Where did they find that?!" "Behind the counter if there's any left." And there was some left. 2 bottles. Hooray! :slick:

But here's the fun part... as the old couple checks out, they ask "Is this beer or wine?" :stare:

Trigger Warning: Alcoholism, Poverty

I got another box in the mail today. And I wanted to join the post-your-cellar chat that I missed out on. So here's some photos of my shame.

Today's haul from Texas:

Who will win the greatest battle of them all?

Sorry in advance on that Ranger Creek and the two DEBC beers (Armadillo is pretty much owned entirely by Deep Ellum Brewing Co). 4-Squared is a solid extra to send and at least they didn't send you Deep Ellum IPA!

And Ranger Creek, well... there's pretty much no apologizing for them. The small batch is supposedly their first sour that they did on purpose.

Everything non-JK was an extra. The Ranger Creek has a 79/3.36 on BA, but a hilarious 51 on Ratebeer. Yikes. The other beers have decent ratings, actually. Here's hoping.

I remember La Bestia being good from Ranger Creek but I think they're one of those outfits like Adelbert's that wants to make good beer and produce stuff in a variety of genres but really just pale to everything else outside of Texas.

Adelbert's has really cool labels now tho, now that I see their website again.

some people in a different group were talking about it. Night Shift had this to say on a BA thread:

"After reading this thread this morning we tasted 5 different batches of Somer Weisse. It seems that some of the batches have become infected (way too sour and vinegary) and aren't to our standards. The bad batches are batch #15 bottled on 8/28 and #16 bottled on September 4/5th (batch 16 bottled 8/28 is fine)"

a dude in that group who had one sent it back to them and got some tasting glasses and a hat in return (in addition to a refund at the place of purchase)

Planning a beer trip back to Southern California (my homeland!) for Thanksgiving with the fiancee. Here's our general plan:

The Bruery on Monday evening
Lost Abbey and/or Stone on Tuesday (probably Stone for food)
Pizza Port on Wednesday

Any concerns/objections to the above, or other recommendations? I totally plan to grab bottles for checked luggage on the way back too.

Side note: Why does my Jai Alai have small whitish chunks of stuff floating in it and settling to the bottom? This is the second can that was like that - are those fragments of something from brewing?

e: vvv THANKS BUDDY

If you're going to San Diego, I'd recommend stopping by Alpine if you enjoy IPAs over Lost Abbey and/or Stone.

Edit: Since we're posting cellars, here's my mixed beer/wine cellar on the left and beer fridge on the right. I also have another cellar that mostly has wine and an offsite storage that has cases of beer/wine. I have a small obsession with collecting stuff but my electricity bill is destroying me and I'm trying to get rid of one cellar at least.

What the hell is that awesome beer in the background, and do they make an accompanying "OHIO SUKS" label?

The Hitachino labels are well designed and eye catching. That's mostly the reason I've had so many of their beers (I can't resist great packaging). Of all of them the one that stands out the most for me is the Espresso Stout. It's worth picking up once or twice, even if there are better (and cheaper) examples of the style.

And as I mentioned to Me in Reverse earlier tonight, I'd post a picture of my cellar if it wasn't shameful. It's just some old wooden wine crates and some cardboard wine boxes stacked on shelves I made out of concrete blocks and wood from home depot. It's sad, but it does the trick. I'd love to have a fridge, but I live in a 90 year old south Philly row home. Even if I had extra outlets in the basement I can't fit a fridge down the 22 inches of clearance going down the stairs.

I think it's a product of Independence Brewing in Austin, home of UT. You'll have to ask Short's to make Ohio Suks I guess.

This person is correct. It is Independence Brewing Co., Austin, TX - Oklahoma Suks Brand amber beer. It's pretty light and easy to drink.
