Didn't get many bites on my locals for locals thing. Should I just try to trade on BA? Just trying to start trading or getting some hard to find beers in MD.

You can try BA but the response is going to be similar. You really should have something in mind that you're looking for; it's just easier for people to say "I can get that, what can you send in exchange?" Keeping it too open ended isn't going to draw any interest. My advice would be to do a little research on what's interesting to you that you can't get. If you like what people on BA or Ratebeer or Untappd are saying about Beer XXX from Wyoming, then drop a line saying "Looking for Beer XXX. Have all MD locals available." Or better yet, "Looking for Beer XXX, have Beer YYY. Willing to expand for more locals."

Makes sense. I know more so what I'm looking for but just didn't think my located beers would be as worth it to them. I'm looking for Russian River, Alesmith, and Firestone Walker. So a California or west coast goon perhaps. Looking for local stuff unless you are intrigued by a certain something out here. I'm in MD, but can easily drive to DC or VA.

I'd also recommend if you're not sure exactly what you want, wait until the next BIF (Beer it Forward) event that we do and sign up to join. Basically, each person that signs up sends a box of local beer to a goon across the country, and receives one in return from another goon. It's great fun, and a good way to get to try a bunch of great beer from a region you can't normally get where you live.

Yeah I just missed the last one. Will definitely be in for the next one. I just am not sure I want to wait however long it is before the next one. But if no one is interested I'll just mosey onto BA and give that a shot. No big deal.

You have to be a 'regular' on the BA forums to participate in trading. And BA is a shithole anyway. beertrading.org is new/better.

Its too expensive to do that on a regular basis. Shipping two 22 oz's plus packaging is almost $20. People are usually going to want some stuff they've heard of.

The only shipping that is a huge money sink is packages to the west coast (from the Great Lakes) - it can get up to $25+ for a 12 bottle shipper. Shipping anywhere else is usually $10-$15.

FedEx hooks up pretty decent discounts if you sign up for an account. i'm curious, though- do you guys get many adjustments, or are you careful to make sure all of your information is accurate in the first place?

If you can get me a couple of 6-packs of Ipswich Ale I can get you all of those, although I'd probably start with Alesmith because their ESB is one of my favorite inexpensive beers ever.

This is for all the Oregon people because I'm seriously looking for some Boneyard Notorious growlers; I had some at Woodshop and it was one of the best tasting, heavily layered IPAs I've had in a while. I'm going to put it at the same level of Citra, HT, etc and I'd love to get some more. I have al the regular SoCal stuff including specials. Edit: Forgot to add this but it's available for growler fills at the Tin Bucket if this is closer than going all the way to Bend. I'll split the trade with Me in Reverse. You can ship to either of us since we both have a stockpile of IP trade stuff (seriously come pick up your beer). Is there something specific you want from TH? edit: also I don't play LoL anymore. I switched to DOTA2. It's less snowball-y. I know of someone near me that is looking to sell off a couple of beers he has cellared for awhile. He isn't interested in trading, just looking to sell. One bottle of each: BCBS Rare BCBS Vanilla BCBS Coffee 2010 BCBS 2009 22oz Big John 2011 He's selling these five bottles as a bundle and he's asking for $200. This actually doesn't seem too far from what these 5 bottles would trade for in a $4$ trade. What do you guys think? E: I was looking to buy them for myself if he was still looking to unload them. Just curious about their "trade value" vs actual sale price. atothesquiz fucked around with this message at 17:41 on Nov 12, 2013 |
