In 1974 Barclay James Harvest went on tour with a mellotron instead of an orchestra and it sounded like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2_qE0mUnuQ Apparently the tour was a bit of a disaster though because the drat mellotron kept breaking. If you don't know a mellotron is a sort of primitive sampler where every key on the keyboard plays a short magnetic tape when you press it, then when you release the tape is rewound again
