Well he touched on that, but he knew that Scott was really asking "Why shouldn't *I* kill myself?". And a sarcastic response probably wouldn't have ended with them hugging it out. Maybe Banner just wanted a situation to end with hugging it out for once.

While it's a shame because I'd love to see George Clooney curse with reckless abandon, I'm sure Sam Jackson would be more than willing to curse his way through a movie again, and now seems the right time to do a Nick Fury movie.

muscles like this? posted:Garth Ennis really does confuse "badass" with "rear end in a top hat" a lot. For Fury MAX that was kind of the point, for all intents and purposes he was a badass rear end in a top hat whose time had passed and the only way he could be considered heroic was by comparison to what had replaced him and the guys he faced.

muscles like this? posted:Garth Ennis really does confuse "badass" with "rear end in a top hat" a lot. Fury MAX is a great take on the character. He's a contradiction of a violent rear end in a top hat who wants to do the right thing while at the same time is aware he's a nasty rear end in a top hat who works for government assholes and the entire system is corrupt to the bone. The recent MAX miniseries pretty much nailed it on the head how he knows he should kill himself for the American atrocities he's been a part of, but at the same time he can't bring himself to do it. Sort of how most people manage to ignore the blood of their lifestyle.

It's been a long time since I read it, but from what I recall you'd have to read awfully far into it to get something that reasonable out of it. It seemed like a blender where Ennis threw all his stock ideas whether they fit the character or not.

It reads a lot better in context to be honest. It does suffer from a lot of "Ennis-isms" for want of a better term. Such as the "muscle" being a giant called "Fuckface" (because it as bitten off by a shark) who rapes people to death... Ok, THAT makes it sound worse than it is. Fury as a character in it is good though.
