I booked a weekend stay at the Luxor for a trip to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday and it was pretty expensive for the luxor's quality. Basically 170 a night plus taxes and fees. It was the cheapest available in the main area of the strip for that weekend. question for experienced vegas trip people: They sent me an email offering an upgrade for 5 bucks a night from the pyramid king deluxe room to a tower queen deluxe room. Is it worth it to spend an extra few dollars for a bigger window? Should I not respond in hopes they accidentally overbooked and will offer me a better room than that one?

Upgrade from a King to a Queen?

I'm more curious whether they're actually offering me a better room or just a different location in the hotel. They want an additional 10 dollars for the entire stay. I'd rather throw that 10 dollars on black and hope for the best if the room isn't actually better.

When I was there a month ago, I signed up online and had the pyramid king deluxe for $88 Fri/Sat and $48 Sun. We also got the upgrade offer and chose to ignore it (my wife really wanted to stay in the pyramid). When we got in late Friday evening they upgraded us to the tower due to overbooking, but we moved back to the pyramid for the next two nights. I honestly could not tell a difference between the rooms. So I'd recommend saving your bucks and enjoying the bigger bed.

I've heard from others that overall the Tower rooms are nicer, if something of a bit of a walk to get there. Tower rooms are supposedly quieter than Pyramid rooms, since Pyramid rooms all face out on to the casino. When are you going? That seems a crazy rate for the Luxor, unless there is a big event going on at the same time you are there. But I'd still check around just to comparison shop - say at maybe Monte Carlo or Harrahs or someplace mid-grade up the strip.

I am signed up with M Life. I don't know why the prices are so high. I stayed there for 200 bucks for 4 nights a few years ago. Maybe they're having a big event or something. strokevictim posted:I've only stayed in the Tower and it was a decent room. I looked at every hotel and the only cheaper was the Travelodge, the Riviera, and Circus Circus. I spent a few hours comparing prices and deals and this was the best. Excalibur was 10 dollars a night cheaper but I had a bad experience there once and wouldn't stay there again unless it were free. Thanks for the advice though, guys. I'll ignore the offer and maybe take it if they're offering a free upgrade when I check in.

My parents are going to Vegas, primarily to do some sightseeing in the vicinity. They don't drink or gamble, but I'd like to be able to give them a few restaurant recommendations they might enjoy. I've already told them about Lotus of Siam and the Burger Bar, based on reading this thread, but are there any other places (not extremely fancy ones) that are especially worthwhile right now?

Me and some other goons want to do a US roadtrip, starting with a few days Vegas somewhere middle of May. We're all Dutch and like a lot of countries in Europe the gun laws here are very strict. The idea is just to spend some time shooting at a range or something during the trip. I saw The Gun Store being mentioned quite a lot and it looks pretty cool, but is it a good idea to visit this one in Vegas or are there many places like this around? The idea is to do Vegas, San Fracisco, LA, San Diego, Grand Canyon and Vegas again, will we find anything better along the way or is Vegas our best chance?

Vegas gun stores kind of cater to folks like you, for a price. There are a lot of ranges in the United States that have machine guns/ automatic weapons for rent. There's a lot in Vegas but you tend to pay extra. For example, in my small town in Georgia, there is a range where it's 5 dollars to rent a machine gun and then you pay slightly above market price for ammo. (You could go through 50 rounds of ammo on 5 different SMGs and get by for maybe under 100. 75 dollars of that being the cost of 250 rounds of 9mm, which is reasonable) Compare that to "TheGunStore" where you get 25 rounds out of an MP5, 25 rifle rounds out of an M4, and 10 shots out of a pistol for 100 dollars. If you can a range that suits your needs elsewhere, you'll save a lot of money. If you're rolling in it as an heir to the Dutch East India Tea Company or otherwise have some extra money to spend, Vegas will have exactly what you're looking for.

Does Utah or Arizona allow machineguns? Does the entire state of Nevada or just Vegas? Since we'll be driving around with no real schedule it shouldn't be hard to fit something in. Edit: Never mind, Wikipedia is quite helpful with this. Looks like it is only California that has those restrictions, at least when I check Utah and Arizona. That said the guys at downtown are awesome, went deep off menu for when I started asking for bartenders choice drinks and allowed me to force them into a safety meeting involving fernet. Left the bar completely sideways and almost lost my poo poo when loving Bon jovi appeared on the roof of downtown as I was walking to get the bus. Vegas baby!

I'm going to be in Vegas for only the second time in my brief 37 year old life this weekend, and my question to you folks is: I am a dumb who didn't pay attention to when his flight comes in compared to the other 7 dudes so I have a good four hours to kill before they all get in - However there is a Bruins game on in the interim: anybody know of a good place where I could probably catch said hockey game? And/or if you have any other good ideas for a time-kill between 5-9p on a thurs. Also what is this The Laundry Room place like? Pseudo-Speakeasy? Would it be cool/decent for a bunch of mid-30 dudes out for a birthday/bachelor-esque group? Thanks ye goons.

Your best bet is to find a sports book and grab an empty seat that has it's own TV. A little channel surfing and you should find the game. If you're more mobile, you can try Hammer and Ales on Russell at Valley View. It's sort of a defacto Boston bar, but I've only ever seen Sox games there. No idea if they have the NHL TV package.

This is more or less what I thought I'd probably have to do - We're staying at the MGM so I guess I'll just go drop a couple bucks on the B's and kick it down in their sports book. And in the essence of not getting completely shithoused before everyone else shows up - there a good arcade around there? I'll go get my nerdshoe on till everyone else's flights get in . I'm trying to search on their website but does anyone know if MGM does a shuttle from the airport or do I have to go taxi it up as NOT recommended in the OP? edit: Ahh it appears there's just a bunch of shuttles in general for $6-9 bucks. Awesome - thanks. Pretty sure I dug the Trop last time I was there. Edit: actually, hmm, now that I think about it - I don't think I have been to the Tropicana. Part of me wants to pop back over to guns and ammo garage and blow some on going full auto for an hour. And since I know the veggie-eatin' brooklyn'ites showing up won't want to that may be my best chance to squeeze in some range time. And as I recall it was close-ish to the MGM. Hmmmmm. Going to vegas with my girlfriend the weekend of dec 14-17. I looked into seeing Cirque du Soleil O but they are on vacation that week. I've seen a Soleil show before so not too wild about seeing another unless its really amazing. What would the next best show that is playing that weekend? Or instead of a show what would be something else similar to a "show" that we could do? We aren't going to be gambling or drinking and I don't even know why we are going other than I've never been. What is something that is totally awesome and only in vegas? thanks

Wandering around inside the Bellagio/watching the fountain show (check it out both during the day and at night) is entertaining for a bit. Take a trip to Fremont street one night for the Fremont St Experience. Man, Vegas with no drinking sounds like a bummer. Half the fun is just wandering around with beverage in hand, taking in the sights and sounds.

Perfect for sleeping. Also, their low buy in weekend Hold'Em tourney was a fuckin' blast. Killed a good few hours and my hangover slogging through it. Also had a blast making "friends" with their Pai Gow dealers who had never seen someone seriously bust out for over $100 in the course of less than an *hour at the lowest stakes table there. They were apologizing to me and calling for more drinks to be brought. They legit couldn't understand how I was losing and almost never pushing. Never ate there, and never hung out for terribly long. Super close to Casino Royale for low-stakes low-class craps tables, which is also some of the most consistent fun in Vegas IMO. Stay there, pay very little for a perfectly located room, and get out and explore. Pretty no-frills place there. Ally McBeal Wiki fucked around with this message at 04:50 on Nov 25, 2013 |
