It was an '05 Tiburon. Take that as you will. No pics yet. The cops took it away and I haven't found where they towed it to yet. Going to SF for business next week so I might not be able to get pics until next weekend. The 242 had too much rust in the usual places for me to get it (thanks skylineboy08 your name is still horrible though) Looking for E30s. Maybe put an LQ9 in one down the road a little ways.

Seat Safety Switch posted:The French police need to find some taxi drivers. This news article is pretty old but that's the only one I could find in english, the phenomenon has expanded and it's pretty common to see convoys using Audi RS6's or 911's. Last year a convoy was caught in my city because the transporting car crashed while outrunning the police in a souped up Maserati Quattroporte that was stolen like 2 days before from the owner of a casino. So yeah the police bought Subarus WRX STI and Renault Megane RS to catch them but it's much not working because they have scout cars and sometimes 500+ HP.

Adiabatic posted:Weirdly enough dude had a box that he set on the side of the road afterwards. Some friend of his came and picked it up before the cops got there. A recent case around here involved a guy crashing his car into a stationary roadworks machine. He wasn't seriously injured, but was taken away in an ambulance anyway. Witnesses wondered why he was very quick to hide something from his trunk in some nearby bushes, and a brief investigation by the police turned up a purse and a cellphone that had been stolen half an hour before from a rape victim. They made a DBA profile on the guy, and he's now being charged for a dozen rapes and attempted rapes. So if something looks suspicious, it might very well be, and it might not be a victimless crime.

Insurance question: Should I tell them about the "new" engine and transmission? I can see it going either way on perceived value and I'd definitely like some advice from all y'all about which way my adjuster will go. I've been on a business trip the past week so I'm just now finally able to go get my crap out of the car today after work. I'll get some pictures.

I had to haggle with my claims adjuster who felt my 190k car with full maintenance was worth just as much as a 190k car running on borrowed time. Since you are not at fault this time, I'd work with your insurance over the fact that you had just completed a rebuild, and show them the stacks of receipts. If you don't get what you want, show supporting documentation with similar cars and what they are selling for.. CL/Nada/KBB, etc are all useful in this manner.

Adiabatic posted:Insurance question: Should I tell them about the "new" engine and transmission? I absolutely would. In fact, I have nightmares about that on my current convertible, the value isn't much but I can document that I spent a lot of hours building the car. If the car gets wrecked less than a year after I spent months building the thing, I am not going to consider any offer fair until I get some sort of compensation for the new parts and labor. I wouldn't expect 1:1 full retail shop hour compensation, but something.

There's like a whole foot of space behind that frame support before you get to the engine. Have any pics with the hood open? Those seats alone would go for $700-800 if they are in good condition.

Yup. Just got the call, confirmed totaled. 1 to 2 days for them to get back to me on it. We were going over the car's options and I told the adjustor about the engine and trans. He said it's not 1 to 1 but it'll absolutely add value. That certainly makes me feel good. meatpimp posted:Where was that parked? It looks like the curb side got it much harder than the street side... It wasn't parked. I was nosed out at an intersection with a 4 lane road, trying to turn left, and a guy with his lights off tore my face apart. The guy hit the nose on the driver's side at 50mph at a 90° angle. He basically sheared the front of the car off like a fine razor from driver to passenger side. skylineboy08 posted:FYI: 1989 BMW 735il Mundane Maintenance thread incoming Jesus man don't talk about it in here you'll jinx the poor thing

It sucks that your car is dead, but you have a garage and if you live in a state that's anything like NC, you can buyback for peanuts and part that poo poo out. I know that it's a fixed number in NC with a few tiers (400/700/1100 or something), but you can make a dent towards a new car with parts from the old one.
