You're being disingenuous (and legit funny) because there's nowhere else to move the goalpoasts-- the whole "trick" of these toys is that they are two toys in one. If, when trying to move a Marvel Legends or GI Joe figure's arm in the manner described by Rage, that figure's pecs suddenly went sailing over its head, people would go ballistic. And with good reason. It's like trying to defend BW Cheetor's cheetah mode or something-- it fails at an essential part of the core gimmick, and is thus not that good. Note that I didn't resort to internet hyperbole and say "is terrible" or "is an abortion" or whatever-- all I am arguing is that the Jazz mold has exactly one major flaw, and is thus not worthy of the nonstop fawning praise it gets.

Nonsense. I'm not being disingenuous, I'm being incredulous because this is such a straight up absurd complaint about a toy with as many moving parts as any Transformer has that it actually took however many little bitchfests about the Jazz mold as have occurred up to now before you guys finally managed to explain in detail what exactly you were complaining about, and I still can't believe anyone is complaining about it. Tons of TFs come unpegged or unhinged if you try to pose them without securely holding them. So is Jazz's lack of chest lock-down a minor issue that you don't mind (but Spike's video is deceptive about, as he asserts that it locks), or does Jazz's chest lock down perfectly (Spike's Jazz's head being turned is pure coincidence and I'm Joe McCarthy) and you're spending paragraphs trying to defend a defect that doesn't exist as "no big deal"? You're so desperate to argue and be contrary that your whiteknighting of Spike is in conflict with your whiteknighting of Hasbro.

Can you please stop saying I'm being deceptive or a liar? :smith: I rotated the head on that Jazz and grabbed Wheelie for you. It hadn't even occurred to me that the head could hold it together, Mr. McCarthy. If it does so on yours, excellent, I hope that that knowledge somehow makes the toy more enjoyable for you. Tolerances differ and I don't like being insulted. As I said earlier, my Stepper is looser than the others and his chest moves much more freely, so I can readily believe there are plenty of the mold out there that are floppy, but with 7 out of 8 examples I've held behaving the same, and the other one the "problem" is a non-issue to me, it's going to remain my favorite deluxe. Oh, and this is what I said when someone asked if it locked that started all this:

SpikeMcclane posted:

It doesn't lock. Never said it did. I have... *goes and counts* 8 of the mold, and 7/8 are pretty drat solid. 1 is a bit looser than the others, but has no issues with being posed. I used to have a youtube video of me swinging one around by the arm, but that account got wiped. If you do have a loosey goosey one, when posing, hold place your finger and thumb on the center of the chest/bumper and the middle of the back/roof: should be a pretty natural way of holding it and there's no chance of the chest mechanism moving while you move the arms.

Now can we go back to enjoying poor spending habits, lumps of plastic and metal, and the fiction that supports them without being jerks to one another?

It's elements like this that make me wish IDW could cut away from the main cast just a little bit more, or from the two points in time they seem to put stories in. What you just described sounds like it would make a fantastic Spotlight: Sureshot, set maybe mid-way through the war actually on Cybertron. Optimus gets a bead on him, makes his offer, have Sureshot contending with a 'con agent perhaps set in the backdrop of larger battles, or maybe he's a clean up guy sent into post-battles, I don't know. Just seems like there's a bunch of room for some interesting stories that could give a different perspective.

Sure. That video was incredible, like seeing a plausible-looking UFO video or something. I've had to admit to being wrong plenty of times, and at least a few in this thread I can remember. But I've never had to admit I was wrong (about the videos and my lovely attitude, not that that mold is problematic) while laughing my rear end off. The porno music while you slowwwly rotated Jazz's arm holy poo poo. Thanks for setting things straight and doing it in a hilarious way (in spite of my shittiness).

I think we can forgive Grimlock since it's also being re-used as Beast Wars Megatron. That and every single other voyager has been done really well.

But yeah Rhinox transforms exactly like in the TV show. Now I really want to know who his retool is going to be. G1 Headstrong would probably be the most obvious, but the rhino head looks like it's able to be replaced without any hard effort in hurting the transformation process. So maybe Horri-Bull?

Indeed. The kicker was that there was apparently a sharpshooting contest that both Optimus and Megatron were competing in, and Sureshot beat them both. Hence, the highly contested free agency. That is a story I want to see as well.

That wouldnt fit in very well with IDWverse as Megatron would never have been allowed to enter a sniper competition. He was too low class worker. If they changed it to a version where he kept winning the sniper competitions like Blurr with the speed.. could be cool.

Spike has already handled the notion of him being a liar or deceptive in the videos, but I'm responding to your little furball of internet argument cliches just because everything you said is absurd. There is nothing "desperate to argue" about having an opinion contrary to yours, particularly since said opinion regarding Spike turned out to be 100% correct. All through this you've thrown out ad hominems at Spike for being a liar and now me for "whiteknighting" Spike and Hasbro of all things? While other posters mere pages ago were happy to call me a third-party figure snob who thinks nothing Hasbro does is good enough? If I were in the business of being a Hasbro white knight, I think I would have spent a lot more time defending FoC Bruticus and so many of their other horrible decisions that were much worse than the Jazz mold.

From an engineering/Platonic ideal perspective, Human Alliance Jazz. It's the perfect amount of complexity, the light piping is great, it's got a great gimmick that works well (without being obtrusive), the plastic feels great, Jazz is a cool characterthe tolerances are great and everything snaps together SO well in both modes...I'm sure I'm forgetting other cool things about it.

But really, it's X-9 Ravage. I love the color of the chrome (black...purple....blurple?), the head sculpt is baller (if inaccurate as gently caress), the dual pistols are great, the chest gimmick is awesome...again, I could go on much longer if I took more time. Even all that aside, before The Agenda 3-parter, I wasn't a TF fan. I liked them as a kid, grew up, forgot about them, and humored a roommate in college that was a huge Beast Wars fan by watching it*. If you asked me about Soundwave's cassettes I would've said "laserbeak, the guy, and the dog". But after the Agenda I was in for life. I'm a sucker for continuity porn (or at least I was before it was EVERYWHERE), so the reveal that Megatron the First was behind the disc, and the Ark, and all of that...holy moly. And X-9 was my first hard-to-get TF. He's not just a cool rare guy, he's a symbol of going beyond just picking up whatever was in stores and REALLY getting into this hobby. He's really, really mediocre from an objective standpoint but if I could just have one, he'd be the figure.

*holy poo poo I used to have enough time on my hands to try an entire TV series for a roommate I didn't even like very much. I miss those days. :(

Reveal the Shield Lugnut is really one of the best 20 dollar action figures the world has ever seen. Seriously just top notch in every aspect, though he really doesn't need the red rocket donglauncher thing.

The wings-into-arms transformation is just such a joy. When you see Transformers transform in detail in a given show, and then try to imagine your toys of that character doing that, you know it's not possible(except Cybertron and such stuff, weren't they basically 3D models of the toys complete with same transformations?), but whenever I transform his arms, I can practically see the speed lines behind the arms as I do it.

I can't say if I have a clear favorite but drat if RTS Lugnut and ROTF Lockdown aren't near the top of the list. Straxus and Terradive are super nifty too.

I'll be the first to admit that these aren't for everyone but I just got a construct-bot set today (the one with Megatron and Optimus). They're actually... pretty fun? The plastic feels good and the articulation is nice and tight, and they look surprisingly better in hand than in promo shots, particularly if you customize them (they come with quite some extra parts, enough to give them at least one extra altmode). You can shuffle the kibble around and plug it in the back if you don't like it hanging off the forearms (or just take it off altogether). Even if you don't like the bots themselves, they are excellent as accessory kits since both of them come with a shitload of weapons, and everything uses standard pegs so you can give cool guns and melee weapons to your other figures. They gave Megatron a psychopath grin for some reason, however.
