Serialization on television is usually bad for ratings.

This is slightly veering away from Arrow, but I really do despise the myth that serialization = low ratings. USA network pulls GREAT numbers for the majority of their shows, and most try to blend a slight serialized story with tightly paced procedural plots. And its incredible how well that formula works. Just spending seven or so minutes in a given forty minute episode on an ongoing thread generates online buzz and fan interest, PLUS the mystery of the week is usually strong too, since it doesn't have to fill every single minute of screentime. I'd lose my drat mind if every television show tried to ape Sons of Anarchy/Scandal/Arrow's devotion to long-form storytelling, but bland procedurals aren't the ratings goldmine they used to be either.

I don't watch most USA shows because they're just awful, but I did suffer through like 3 seasons of Burn Notice and you would be lucky to see 7 minutes of ongoing arc per season.

While it's no contest that Arrow is a better show than Shield at a moment, comparing a series in its second season to a show that is only on its eighth episode in kind of unfair to the latter. There are some legitimate concerns with the structure of AoS, given that it is bound into a much larger universe, were all the major stuff has to happen in the movies and thus the ability to really shake things up is somewhat limited, but complaining that characters are not as well developed is seriously a stupid complaint. We are not even at the halfway point of the season and so far literally every episode has somehow advanced their characterization or their relationships with each other. Their is no guarantee that it will turn into a great show in the end, but condemning it from the get-go, just because it doesn't match up with a show well into its second season is really pointless.

I'm watching season 1. I actually like this show a lot, but there's some very weak performances and some uneveness in tone that mess it up in places. I'm excited to get to the end of the season though and will try to catch up to broadcasts.

I was gonna complain that's no Amanda Waller, but that's perfectly in character. She doesn't coerce you with pain, she coerces you by letting you know she knows EVERYTHING.

I guess I will spoiler this but Venom the drug was based on a drug named "Miracle" which was based on HOUR MANs formulae. So yeah I would not be surprised at all if it's venom. Plus you had Brother Blood using it basically.
