I barely have any idea of what MMA is or like what matches are must watches or what to appreciate in the athletes' performances, so Oplot is pretty great. It looks and sounds like a b-movie depiction of MMA, only no one is buff enough to be a b-action-hero star and I think no one is fighting for their freedom from a prison that runs nightclub deathmatches on the side.

Haha, so Bob Meyrowitz is talking about starting up YAMMA and the name was created as a result of a misunderstanding - as he explains it, he was in a restaurant pitching the idea to Russian investors and they couldn't understand why a curved pit was even necessary, so he got a frying pan and they all exclaimed, knowingly, "yama!" So he thought it meant frying pan. Later on he was talking about YAMMA with Oleg Taktarov and was corrected and yama actually meant "burial pit."

Just reading the tea leaves of all the Meyrowitz interviews lately and other stuff I've seen of him he doesn't seem real eager to engage on (new) UFC stuff. Especially in that 20th anniversary doc where he's talking about the sale and what was going on at the time in his life sounded like someone recalling some sort of huge trauma. I don't think it's that he feels excluded or spiteful over their success. Maybe he's just sick of people saying what a rube he was for selling it in hindsight.

I don't think that's fair to say though, given that I can't imagine the UFC becoming what it is now without the Fertitta's NSAC connections playing a big role early on.

The first time was the fight that ended with the guy dancing, and now I turn it on and a guy from the crowd is going to fight. I really need to watch way more.
