The minisode they just released 'Night of the Doctor'. It's the Christmas present we all dreamed of! Starring Paul McGann with John Hurt as the War Doctor. "Charlie, C'Rizz, Lucie, Tamsin, Molly." No Fitz or Anji Holy poo poo, that was great you guys. The_Doctor fucked around with this message at 14:24 on Nov 14, 2013 |

So that was pretty rad! Paul McGann should get a two doctors special someday, I can't find a reason against one.

PAUL MCGANN!!! I am so utterly stoked about this EDIT - I never, ever thought we'd see the Eighth Doctor again, let alone see him regenerate. Wow. Barry Foster fucked around with this message at 13:51 on Nov 14, 2013 |

Holy poo poo! I was telling my friend how I'd be honestly disappointed if the 50th came and went and McGann had no part in the show. This is just what I needed. I'm so stoked now. (Though I suppose it's very hard to try and say that McGann'll have a part in the actual episode on the 23rd now.)

He's not the Doctor. He's clearly "THE WAR DOCTOR" as the credits states. Though I'm not sure I like that as his official merchandising name or whatever, thought they would go with something else. Of course, first he was THE DOCTOR, then in this, he's THE WAR DOCTOR. Maybe the 50th will give him yet another name.

Harlock posted:Let the Re-Numbering begin? It was he fought in the war proper. It seemed that before he was just on the edges trying to save people, while Hurt is actually fighting. Also it seems he is 8.5 since 8 was not dead dead, and regeneration was not done the proper way. He also had 4 minutes before he died and thats plenty of time.

Well, McGann popping up after denying it for months has now given me hope that Christopher Eccleston will pop up for a cameo at the end of the 50th during Hurt's regeneration. I can dream, right?

If anything else, a back shot with a double in garb and they play an audio clip of 'Fantastic.' Something along those lines.

It was awesome to see McGann again, and even more to hear the Big Finish companions named, something which I would have thought was even less likely than seeing McGann again. But I do think 8 now has almost as ignominious a death as 7.

It is much more heroic than getting shot due to him not looking out the window.

Just had a thought; it'd be really cracking if all the faces seen during the Doctor's telepathic fight with Morbius the last time he visited Karn were in the chalices the Sisters offered him.

Well, here we are in 2013, and I've just watched McGann as the Doctor once more, and it's everything I'd ever thought it would be. I would do terrible things to have even a single series with him. It's honestly a little saddening to see him officially regenerate, though. There was always that mystery that it was out there, always at least one more adventure away.

Maybe the 50th will give him yet another name. It's an interesting way to do things, and I wonder if it didn't really stem as a workaround because Eccleston bailed. Moffat clearly wanted to do something around The Time War, and he probably approached Eccleston for a Three Doctors style episode where they'd team up and put 9's demons to rest. Probably wrote a cracking script and was really attached to it and approached Eccleston who said "thanks but no thanks." So he had to rejigger it. I suppose he could have made 8 the one who fought in the war, but quite frankly I like it better this way. It preserves his character a bit as being the optimistic one that sees the best in everyone and is ever hopeful and out for adventure.

He got to go out on top, untarnished and we got shout outs to his BF adventures. Moffat gets a gold star for this one.
