Does anyone know of a cheap SMTP relay/gateway service that will relay mail on non-standard ports? My ISP blocks inbound port 25 and I want to test Microsoft Exchange. DynDNS has this service for $50/year: http://dyn.com/email/dyn-email-gateway/ Anything cheaper out there?

Having a hell of a time getting ESXi 5.5.0 to see local SATA drives on my Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H. I've tried IDE and AHCI mode. It goes through the boot process fine, and just before transitioning from the yellow loader screen to where you agree to the install, I get a red error line, but it doesn't stay long enough to read. It then scans the sysetm and shows nothing under Local or Remote for "Disk to Install or Upgrade". Is there any flags/options I can pass the bootloader to allow me to back track and see that error? This is what I did with every existing server we have that I rebuilt(no remote management was ever bought). Unetbootin. Boot from thumb drive. Install to thumb drive. I really need to work in a bigger environment, or become less lazy and play with all the fun vSphere automation stuff.

You can't play with "real" SANs and UCSes at home, but it's easy to roll an environment large and complex enough to do nontrivial work with iSCSI MPIO, kick started installs, svMotion, etc. If you want "large environment", VARs don't hold a candle to enterprises running rows full of hypervisors. The USB is inside the enclosure so you don't risk someone walking along and pulling it out.

It would have been best to completely format the USB drive as RAW so that it has no partition table at all. Your machine probably attempted to boot from the USB flash drive prior to attempting to boot from whatever install media you are using which would have caused that "BOOTMGR is missing" error. Not really an issue, the ESXi installer will blow away the contents of the drive entirely when installing.

I literally would not have gotten my CCNA R&S or my CCNA Security without GNS3. Well, not as easily or cheaply at least. $25 is almost criminally low for how much I value that software. CONTRIBUTED.

Also worthy of note is some of the developers commentary on just how much requests for simulation of non Cisco hardware has increased and their determination to provide adequate solutions for simulation of that hardware. Specifically covered at one point was Junos. I have not backed it yet but I really should.

So I'm going to try to set up a home lab, mostly focused on VMware, and then the usual Microsoft suite of software - Server 2012R2, AD, DNS, etc., with some SCCM thrown in. I'm going for the usual shuttle build Shuttle SH67H3 Intel Core i5-3570 Ivy Bridge 2x Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 16GB (2 x 8GB) Rosewill RNG-407-Dual PCI-Express Dual Port Gigabit ... Only dual port NIC I could find that didn't cost a significant portion of the build... And I'll probably dig up some hard drive from somewhere to install ESXi on. Tentative cost: ~790 Canadian funbux. However, the other half of the equation is to get some network storage practice going on. I figured I'd throw FreeNAS on something, and use it for the VMware server's storage though Gb iSCSI. I have no bloody idea what I should be looking for. Being able to hold a decent number of disks and raid them obviously, so another one of those shuttles is out, but I'm sure someone here has done something that would work. This card uses a Marvell Yukon chipset, and will most likely NOT work with ESXi unless you want to do a bunch of ISO hacking to insert your own drivers.
