I've been looking at different schemes and patterns for my TIEs. Stupid Rebels made it really hard with their monopoly on actual colours in squadrons.

Tell me, what colour is Tau or Epsilon? (and don't say Tau Ochre, smartass!)

Did a test model to see about how easy it would be to repeat the patterns.

I'll wash the model too, so the end result should be a bit darker. What do you guys think?

Looks good, did you do the test model with an airbrush / aerosol sprays and masking them off? or painting by hand? My only quibble would be like PJOmega said, I thought you were pointing the other way :)

Er.. yeah, about that. It's all a cunning plan! Defeat the enemy through misdirection.

I masked the area with some thin tape and then stipplied the colour on by hand. Used one of the GW 'dry' paints, made the whole thing very easy.

I'll think about swapping the direction of the pattern. The initial idea was stylised pointy teeth.

So I just tried out a new squad with the HWK-90. It did reasonably well against a mixed Alliance squad but I wonder about its broader application.

Han Solo — YT-1300
Veteran Instincts
Assault Missiles
Chewbacca
Gunner
Shield Upgrade
Millennium Falcon

Kyle Katarn — HWK-290
Ion Cannon Turret
Recon Specialist
Stealth Device
Moldy Crow

What do you guys think? Can it stand up to competitive lists? It relies heavily on the Falcon being up close and always having focus in addition to TL or evading etc.

No

You have 1 ship doing damage. Swarms will rip this list apart. Same with 2 Firespray lists, 4X lists, 2X2B ect ect.
Theres a point where adding more upgrades into a ship makes it worse not better. I'd scrap like 90% of those upgrades and take a 3rd ship, either Rookie or Blue Squad B wing.

It's a *lot* of points to kick out for only two ships, it would do better against smaller lists, but against proper Imperial lists I think it'll have some issues. The Stealth Device on the HWK-290 will probably be blown off pretty quickly too, and Vet Instincts on Han is wasted, only because there are better EPTs to put on him (Han shoots first anyway).

I usually run Imperial lists anyway, but I would definitely advise dropping alot of the upgrades and running an extra ship. Gunner on Han is almost unnecessary due to his ability, Shield Upgrade can be dropped and you might consider dropping Assault Missiles, but you may find the useful.

I don't really know how to run the HWK-290, it looks like a large investment in points for it to do anything useful (ie Jan Ors) so I'd consider dropping it for anything else. My girlfriend usually runs two ships to support, be it Y-Wings, X-Wings, A-Wings or occasionally B-Wings.

My favorite HWK list is currently Roark with an Ion, and 3 Bs with AdvSen.
29 points of hull/shield, plenty of firepower, and the ability to kill a high PS enemy before they hurt you.
I'll be testing it out against 2 Falcons later today.

4 • Alpha Squadron Pilot - TIE Interceptor (18)

5 • Alpha Squadron Pilot - TIE Interceptor (18)

This is a bit of a variation on the 5x Alpha SQ Interceptors with 3x Stealth. I want to see whether the PS3 pilots are more versatile.

While some may bag the shuttle out, I have had some success with this one too.

4 • Saber Squadron Pilot - TIE Interceptor (21)

Cool it a minute, babe, let me finish playing with my fake gun.
A buddy and I played today and he came up with what we think would be a good list:
Jan Ors + Wedge with Expose + Biggs with Dodgebot

I don't remember all the particular attachments, but the idea was that Jan would give extra attack dice to Wedge, who would do his Wedge thing and massacre enemies with lowered defense dice, while Biggs would stick close and eat all the shots.

Has this build been discussed before? How well would it work?

Wedge would be better taking Push the limit. Expose isn't very good and while 5 dice looks nice, (6 at range 1) 4 dice buffed by focus and/or TL will result in more hits than 5 with no modifiers.

He flew as you would think, keeping Biggs in the back of the pack forcing long range shots.

The finals match was an odd one. Biggs didn't make it through the first exchange. (He rolled four defense dice, Biggs at range 3, through an asteroid, four different times and rolled 0 Evades)
He also got lucky though and one-shot both Dark Curse and Howl later on.
After that there was 2Bs vs 4 TIEs, then 1B vs 2 TIEs at the end.
The end of the match was boring as it was just Advanced Sensors allowing the B to focus every K-turn, and some stupid jousting by the TIEs when they had no advantage doing so.

That's changed and my local game store is having a big 24 hour tabletop night and I feel like the group there would be way into this. What do you think are the essentials to get people to learnt the game, but have options after a few rounds of learning, that will make it fun and strategic, without totally killing my wallet?

It doesn't help that the ships would look GREAT on my shelf when not in use. Not like I would totally buy some just for that.

First off, I would recommend using proxies for the cards. This will help tremendously in saving you money.

As for what you will probably need:
$20 - B-Wing x2
$20 - Millennium Falcon
$54 - Core Set x2
$20 - Slave 1
$10 - TIE Advanced
$20 - TIE INT x2 (or better the Aces pack)
(Prices from coolstuffinc)

This will give you access to:
HSF (Falcon, 2 Xs)
Bloody Knives, Blue Thunder, Dags (XXBB)
Fettigator variants
Howlrunner mixed Ln/Int swarm
Triple 9s (Fel, Turr, Vader)

After that I would recommend getting a few bombers. (Unfortunately 4 is really good and fun but crazy expensive just for that)
1 more X to run the three amigos. (Wedge, Biggs, Luke)
Then 1 Y and 1 HWK.
Then later a few A-wings and the Shuttle.

For a couple of years now at Christmas my extended family, who are otherwise unaware of my wargaming, have really enjoyed playing Wings of War. As such for this Christmas I am upgrading to this, having warned them it is a slightly more complicated game (due to differing ships and the action phase). They are well up for it and thanks to a lot of ebay sales of my 40k and impulsive buying I now have one of most of the ships.

The format we would play with WoW was everyone has one plane and it is upwards of four players on a team. I was planning on balancing the points and keeping the upgrades to a minimum for this format in x wing

I have flicked through the thread and I was wondering if any of the more experienced guys who the force is strong with had any suggestions or setbacks with the way the game plays I might encounter.

What kind of play area do you need? The ships move a lot further than WWI biplanes! We are on.a normal dining room table.

I notice there are a lot of missions in the main box set and various upgrades? Does anyone have any recommendations on a mission that is fairly simple but fun. This being said there is so much animosity and old grudges that it will rapidly become a death match.

I've played with big groups a few times and here's a few things you might want to look out for:

Player turn order - think about pilot skills, it might be better to have as many different ones as players so you have a turn order rather than having multiple people trying to do their turns at the same time.

Knockouts - it's no fun to watch a game that might go on for a couple of hours if you get blown up in the first turn (especially relevent for regular TIE pilots). We usually end up with the Imperials controlling more than one ship.

Referee - Every time I've tried to play a big game with people who aren't experts I've ended up doing more refereeing and explanations than playing. It's hard to keep track of what everyone is doing and explaining rules problems whilst doing your own moves.

Upgrades - Some ships are fine without upgrades, others don't do much unless they have them. For example, the Y-wing isn't really much use without some torpedoes or a turret.

A 4x4 area is plenty for 100 - 150 points, but you might want to go for 4x6 if you have lots of people playing.

As for mission ideas, here's some stuff I made: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4Ha0RiPWRfUUE5fdUw3YmxLRnM/edit?usp=sharing

Quick question about critical hits after first outing this afternoon.

With the weapon malfunction card it is phrased thus:

Ship

Reduce your primary weapon value by 1 to a minimum of 0

Action: roll 1 attack die, on a hit/critical hit flip this card facedown

I am unsure how to interpret this. Is the action part implying I should roll a red dice and ignore the effect of the card if it is a hit. Do I do this straight away or in the action phase at the end of movement?
