I did the children's message for church this past Sunday, and the kids were pretty great. I drew on a dry-erase board, which I introduced as "my magic board," and the boy sitting front-and-center actually gasped when I first put pen to pad. I'm a terrible draftswoman, so I guess he really did think the board was magic. It was such a small thing, but it made my day.

Zero Star posted:And also this vid, of a baker who clearly loves what he does: This video seems to have been blocked due to copyright bullshit, but I've seen it before (this one, I think?). I watched it with my husband, who is also a professional baker. It was pretty cool because apparently this is what my husband does all day, except not as cheerfully. He had had a lot of critiques about that guy's technique, though, in a very way. "Heh, he sucks at rounding. I'm much faster."

Baseball time: Jose Fernandez is a wonderful pitcher for the Miami Marlins and this year he won the NL Rookie of the Year award. The owner of his team Jeffrey Loria arranged for Fernandez's grandmother to take a trip to Miami to see Fernandez just in time for her to see him win the award. The video MLB produced for it is pretty awesome: http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=31220231

It's best that you just look at the cute picture. From Boogie's Facebook page. quote:It is with great sadness that we inform you that Boogie passed away due to a heart attack on Tuesday, Oct. 15. He was 10 when he wiggled free of his owner Jerry Butts' leash on Oct. 4 and, two days later, ran 13 of 13.1 miles in the Evansville Half Marathon. Boogie received a medal for completing the race and became an international media sensation. He loved every minute of the attention. You know him as the first dog thought to have completed a half marathon unassisted, but to me and my sons, he was our companion, our watchdog, and a member of our family. Boogie was a rascal and he went out the way he wanted, by being a little mischievous and not being too shy to soak up the glory. To make up for the depressing news: Here's a picture of Batkid since his story was talked about earlier! A true superhero.

I'd like to see the cat equivalent of that video. When I took care of my brother's cat when he was overseas for 10 months, he came home and his cat hid from him in fear. It took her two days to remember she actually knew this guy and they were bros from way back.
