After playing through BBI for a while, I get the feeling that when I actually leave and go back to Gransys, every thing is going to pretty much melt before me. I am partially tempted to run and finish the story so I can dragonforge some of my current equipment.

You don't need to beat the story to dragonforge stuff. There's a Drake in Devilfire Grove (SE of the Shadow Fort, SSW of the southern exit of the Ancient Quarry) and you can fight Cursed Dragons in several places in BBI. The Devilfire Grove Drake in particular is really easy to farm for dragonforging; there's a rest spot just over the hill from him so all you have to do is kill him, rest 7 days, and go kill him again. He's also leashed pretty strongly to the forested area, so you can pull him out of there and wait for him to fly and he'll head back to his spawn point, allowing you to save with him at low health if you want to savescum for specific forges.

Don't worry about notice board stuff, as you can do those quests throughout the game. The sidequests you get from people (i.e. explore the well, find Quina) are ones you want to do now if you don't want them to expire.

Well, it's generally best to do the actual sidequests (i.e. not collect X items, kill X monsters, or escort quests) ASAP, since advancing to the next game stage will result in some of those being auto-failed.

Quests like kill X or collect X should not be done specifically, as you'll generally complete them as you go along with the game.

Escort quests should never be done because they're boring.

Getting stuff forged by most lesser dragonkin takes an assload of time, though. At three stars a piece of equipment has only an 18% chance of being dragonforged. Beating Grigori is good for guaranteed dragonforging and getting the good dragon weapons. Also protip: if you're a bow vocation get a rusted bow dragonforged. At that level it has a chance to cause torpor and poison with every shot; tons of enemies are vulnerable to torpor and it is an amazing useful debuff.

Best way to stuff dragonforged is to kill Cursed Dragons on BBI. With Rancid Bait Meat you're guaranteed to get one to spawn in Duskmoon Tower.

I don't start being able to get new abilities until Gran Soren though, right? Just having Threefold Bolt and Scarlet Kisses is pretty boring :(

You can also train/change vocations at BBI. You don't even have to go inside the dungeon, just talk to Olra.

Dude at the encampment will train you for new skills. You just can't change classes outside of Gran Soren or BBI.

Go to the Encampment and talk to Jonathan, a bearded guy who sells pawn inclination elixirs. You can buy an item called art of metamorphosis for 10000 rift crystals that lets you change your arisen and main pawn appearance from the main menu as many times as you like.

To add to this, you get to BBI by going to the Cassardis docks at night.

Finally killed Death, took way longer than it should have. He just would not show up. He only has two crafting drops, the scythe shard and bone lantern right? I got two of each.

edit: also, shouldn't my pawn's equipment be getting dragonforged from drakes/wyverns/wyrms/cursed dragons? I could have sworn they could, but I've killed dozens upon dozens of them and not a single item has been forged for my pawn.

Crap. I did the first one and was waiting till I was stronger to do the next two because I thought the npcs wouldn't make it to the next area otherwise.

When you get some port crystals later on, you can set them up in spots that will activate the completion of some escort quests, so you can liftstone your way to easy rewards while maintaining an easy warp point (i.e. have one at Great Wall, one at Shadowfort, one at the Healing Springs near the Blighted Manse, etc). In NG+, you can set up a Port Crystal network that has convenient warp locations, as well as a bunch at quest completion spots, too.

Only do the escorts if you really, really want the reward (most aren't that great if I remember right) or want to max out someone's affection for you. They don't count for any completion achievement if you happen to be worried about that.

That said, if you do decide to do any and get into a fight and are worried about them dying and haven't' saved recently, just haul rear end away from whatever is after you, both the NPC and pawns will teleport to your side.

A caveat to my original post: you should do the escort quest for Madeleine (the one you get by talking to her) since not doing that means you don't get access to her shop/later quests. Basically, if a person offers a quest, it's one you should do.

Danith posted:

Since the maggot things on BBI are like animals (they don't even count as combat, so you can still save, iirc), I wonder if you can pick up and toss them. :3:

Speaking of pickin' stuff up, I just started NG+ proper and I was doing that very first escort quest for Madeleine (HOLD A MOMENT THERE'S AUGHT HERE), waiting impatiently when I suddenly realized something. You can totally just pick her up sack-of-potatoes style and haul rear end to the encampment. goddd little silly things like that make me love this game even more :3:

Warriors are like Sorcerers; the stuff they do looks awesome, but is not the most fun to actually do, at least for long periods of time.

Certainly there's not as much variation in the combos as I was hoping for; maybe there's another core skill I haven't unlocked yet, but so far strong attack doesn't chain into or off of anything, it's this weird slow two-hit that's just sort of there. All the flashy stuff is just mashing square at a measured pace (or my current cheese combo: antler toss immediately followed by [the ground stab move whose name I can't recall])

Cloche

Ser Berne owns, it was probably because of him that I was able to clear out the quarry and kill that drake at the level I did. If more of the escorts involved you toting around someone like that they'd be a lot more enjoyable.

I think I'm going to start up another game and try out a couple of the other vocations. I was pretty oblivious to stat growths and all those other non-surface level things the first time around, so I may as well give it a fresh try now. So if I make my main pawn a Warrior, do I just want to go Fighter from 1-10 and Warrior the rest of the way? Or should I mix in some Strider levels for the extra Stamina? I'm thinking Magic Archer for the Arisen this go-around, and from what I've seen they're mostly dependent on magic for their attacks so I'll be wanting to level as a Sorceror?

I'm not sure if it's even necessary to pay much attention to this stuff but you guys say BBI is pretty difficult and I even had trouble with the base game a lot so it doesn't hurt to ask! V:shobon:V

Magick Archers also want strength for Immolation, since the fire damage scales with your Strength.

Fighter -> Warrior for your pawn is fine. I basically did that with my pawn, good enough for me.

As soon as you've got something better, either sell it, hand it to your pawn, or hire a lower level pawn that's in crap gear and throw it on that pawn.

Not if you're a Sorcerer. Then you just kind of stand around and wait. Metal golems are even better because pawns have issues recognizing their talismans, which leaves you to destroy them yourself when the only attack you have that deals damage to them is your heavy attack. :toot: There's also one other magic immune enemy in the end game that you just have to stand around and wait for your pawns to kill it.

I would prefer that so much to fighting it with a magic character. I'm not sure you've seen the heavy attack the staff gets, but it takes like 30+ hits to beak one talisman and there's a pretty large gap between attacks even if you're going as fast as it is possible to go. It's not a projectile, either. Takes forever.

You're probably better off using your fists. It's a shame the ring that doubles barehanded damage can't be gotten more easily.

So I beat Daimon for the first time and then tried to go through Bitterblack Isle again and started farming dragons. I have defeated about 3 or 4 of them and I still can't get these drat bardiche daggers to dragonforge.

That being said, I pussied out and switched it to Easy Mode because I got tired of getting of the supposed "challenge" in the game where enemies simply get mountains of health and do more damage.

I had pretty much the same problem. For me, it helped immensely to buy new gear off the peddler just inside the gate of the Encampment (you did rescue him from the goblins on the way, right?). The starter rusty gear is worthless for damage.

Otherwise, as mentioned already and as your pawns will tell you incessantly, cut off their tails. Just keep circling them; at first they'll turn to face you constantly but eventually they'll stop and focus something else. At that point you only have to hit their tails a couple times and it'll be easy going, their defense drops like a rock without their tails.
