i watched Lynch Dune again with some buddies a few weeks ago and it was legit pretty awesome and i'll fight anyone who says it isn't.

the Dune universe is supposed to be this insane drug-addled orgy of weird dudes and giant dick monsters and insane tyrants and Sting, and i feel that Lynch Dune captures that exceedingly well.

Jodo Dune art looks pretty crazy, and Giger's descriptions of his concept art and his whole life generally are pretty ridiculous and probably not sane.

lynch dune is cool for the craziness but i imagine it being more lawrence of arabia with drugs and future guns than giger craziness. i dunno, i guess i just wish dune captured endless expanses of desert but i love that sort of stuff.

lynch is a great director but lynch dune is awful. those internal voiceover monologues are an incredibly clumsy and way too literal interpretation of the novel

well frank herbert isn't infallible. he created some great things like "dune" and "dune messiah", but he also created some crappy things like "chapterhouse: dune" and "brian herbert"

lynch helped me to visualize it better

The only character from the movie i see when i read the book though is Stilgar. Everyone else is visually different in my head.

yeah it was the most enjoyable part of the last dune novel ever written©. the whole genetic breeding program and its thousand+ year effects was some of the best parts of the series, especially because the first book and second book were basically sand planet psychic children: the books.

i say this every time there is dune chat but the books are really a fun read because they go through an asimov-esque shock of there is no such thing as the personal computer to computers are a thing that exist (and it dunes case they are to be feared, possibly because of the author's fear of new technology in his growing age)
