I've been re-watching Parenthood lately, and after watching the episodes with William Baldwin I had to watch some 30 Rock. Parenthood is a great show, but it was frustrating to watch a stretch of episodes guest starring an inferior Baldwin.

I just watched last night's Person of Interest.

Normally I roll my eyes at the hyperbolic praise it tends to receive around here from certain parties, but this season has been top notch and the last few episodes have really crescendoed into a hell of a thing.

And I was so happy to see Carter get made Detective again!

I checked out of watching last season, when the savant kid whose name I've already forgotten had some internet lovey dovey with a stalker complex, that may or may not have turned out to be a legitimate stalking situation.

My roommate still watches it though, and says it's good.
I watched about 10 episodes of Criminal Minds based on a friend's recommendation when I asked for something to replace The West Wing.

I was not pleased. :colbert:

For what it's worth, Mandy Patinkin walked away from Criminal Minds because it was basically just murder porn. He has kids, and didn't want them exposed to that garbage.

By all accounts, Mandy Patinkin seems like a really cool guy. He seems happy to to just go out there, and do "My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father prepare to die." for the tourists who come to his shows.

My mom watches this show like 3 times a day so I catch bits and pieces when I'm visiting and sitting with her. And man, you're not kidding about the "murder porn" thing. On more than one occasion I was genuinely taken aback by the stuff on that show. And its not over the top or sensationalized or fantasy or anything. Its all very palpable, real world evil and violence. Its all way too close to the real thing for me to get any enjoyment out of.

Old Town Road to EGOT

Question: I've been watching Big Freedia's reality show on Fuse, and it's not as expositional as I'd hoped it would be, but it's still an entertaining enough behind the scenes look at NOLA Bounce music and its heavy hitters. Anyway, the first season's finale was tonight and it played out like a series finale. There were "where are they now" segments for every person involved in the season, and it felt like it was coming to a close forever. Does anyone know if it got renewed for a second season? I couldn't find a thread on it here and I have no idea how many people have been watching it this season. It may have gotten terrible ratings and didn't get picked up for another season, but I don't know.

I still wouldn't call it genuinely good, but it seems to be the first episode that didn't revolve around Mindy's romcom fantasies, which is a big improvement. It was written by Ike Barinholtz also, who's consistently been one of the funniest cast members along with Adam Pally who's pretty much stolen every scene he's been in since they grabbed him from Happy Endings and Chris Messina, who really should have his own show at this point.

It still suffers from a way too huge cast and a constant parade of guest stars that's occasionally a good or bad thing.

Yeah the one thing I learned from my sporadic watching of The Mindy Project is that Chris Messina is loving hilarious and needs a show.

My favourite thing of the Mindy Show is the tag they used during NFL where characters from shows say where they're from in a college style, and Ike thingame says '*The* Mindy Project'. That made me laugh and it saddens me I've not seen it online anywhere.

I know someone who was severely abused as a child and now they watch a lot of violent crime documentaries, including a lot of the "informative murder porn" on ID, as a kind of immersion therapy.

Criminal Minds is the only fictional series currently running that also satisfies that purpose.

I was going through my "abandoned series" list, and decided to get into Supernatural again; I'm currently rewatching the first 5 seasons (because they're awesome) and then I'll head into Season 8 which I stopped watching after like one episode.

Which brings me to the question: I also noticed that I had completely forgotten about Burn Notice. A quick search tells me I stopped halfway through Season 6, and I see that it actually ended in season 7. Is it worth a watch?

Burn notice suffers very much from the "every episode is basically the same" problem. The cast is mostly enjoyable enough that I was able to sit through five seasons of it before burning out, but eventually I got tired of the sameness of it all.

Similar patterns keep repeating as well, such as Fiona pulling her "I want more!" then withdrawing B.S. And the mom is completely insufferable.

But anyway, if you like the cast and the formula, it's worth going back to. I'm sure I'll eventually get around to finishing the series once enough time has passed.

Almost Human is almost enjoyable to me. :v:

I feel like the characters and plotting are almost there and they almost do the near future setting in creative ways, but then it never quite comes together for me. Using the obvious comparison, it's not as playful as Sleepy Hollow and the cast isn't as fun to watch. But because I feel like it's so close, I think that the show will be able to find its footing and maybe by the end of the season I'll genuinely enjoy it. I'm not going to be tuning in weekly, but I'm willing to give it a chance when I can sit down and watch the whole season.

This is different from S.H.I.E.L.D. where after two episodes I said, "I'm done with this unless I hear some spectacular things." So far everything I've heard has made me glad I dropped it when I did.
