Specifically, I went to one of those gimmicky Dr. Scholl tester things where it supposedly analyzes your feet using advanced space-age technology. It's $50 for that though. There's a money back guarantee so if it doesn't work you can just return them I guess? Woke up this evening, put on my work shoes before getting out of bed. I can already tell a difference in comfort. There was a lot less pain with the new insoles in my shoes.

moana posted:what can I say, I really love family videos! Both the GoPro and Handbrake use the same codec to encode, so if you want to save time and effort while achieving the same end result just go into the GoPro's settings and turn down the quality a couple notches. You'll honestly never notice the difference -- above a certain point, the extra bitrate is just placebo for 99% of use cases. If it were a case where it was going to be reencoded multiple times (you cut out clips to make a montage or something, which then gets uploaded to youtube, which then is grabbed by someone who does a remix of your footage -- that's 3 subsequent lossy reencodes so every bit of initial quality is essential), then it might be of use. For stuff that's for personal use, try and knock it down to 10-15 Mb/s

How do countries pay off their national debt? Does the United States literally mail a check to China every month or what? How does that money get transferred and who does it actually go to?

How does that money get transferred and who does it actually go to? The debt that you're thinking of exists in treasury bonds. Basically (and I'm not an expert so someone correct me if I'm wrong) the treasury puts up for auction several bonds with different pay off times. So for example they'll put up for auction a 3 year bond for $1000. Several entities will bid on a price and someone, for example a bank or other country or individual investor, will buy it for less than $1000. After three years (the maturity date) they get the full $1000 from the government.

How does that money get transferred and who does it actually go to? National debt is in a vast majority in the form of fixed-term bonds of various lengths, additionally most of the time when it comes due, the investing party chooses to simply take the payout and immediately pay it back in to buy more of them. No one can really demand payment early, although in some cases there are provisions for that where the lending party only gets back a small percentage of the original debt. Also nearly half of the "national debt" in the US in particular is "debt" owed from one government office to another government office. Most of that is because social secuirty payments are invested into Treasury bonds, since those have a stable although low interest rate.

Is Kindle the only recent e-reader that has no touchscreen and still has buttons? Anyone else make any? I dislike touchscreens while reading since I have large hands. I can't just hold the bezel like the models. It's uncomfortable.

Here it is as Best Buy for PC for $49.99. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/rocksmith-2014-edition-mac-windows/9635296.p?id=1219034544949&skuId=9635296&st=rocksmith&lp=5&cp=1

Dropbox has a bandwidth limit, so if you're posting images in heavily-trafficked threads, you can hit that limit pretty quickly. If you haven't noticed any issues so far, though, then there likely won't be any down the road either.

Where I live, it's been below freezing for a couple of days, but we haven't had much in the way of frost or any snow that sticks. When my wife and I came home last night after being out for a few hours, I had a hard time getting my key into the lock on the doorknob, and eventually really had to ram it into the lock. What could be causing this, and how can I prevent it in the future? I could understand if it were icing over, but as I said, there hasn't been much moisture lately, and the deadbolt was fine.

Metal contracts when it's cold, which made it harder for the pins to move up and down. You could try heating the key with a lighter before putting it in the lock if you're in a hurry. The best thing to do is take apart the lock, clean it, and apply some lubricant, but you could probably get away with just spraying some in there. Check with your hardware store for the best kind to use on a lock.

I've had good luck with using silicone lubricants in locks. Spray a little in the lock, but also spray some on the key and work it in and out. edit: A lot of people like graphite, but I find it to be messy.

Is there a "ask goons to do very small programming tasks" thread somewhere? I need to download the targets of 300 links on a particular web page. I have no desire to right-click + "Save As" 300 times, but I also don't know much about scripting. Where would I ask someone to write what I'm sure would be 8 lines of code that would take me days to learn?

Ezzer posted:if a bitcoin is supposed to represent a string of numbers, how do people trade fractions of bitcoin? "A Bitcoin" isn't a thing. "The Bitcoin Network" is a loosely-associated swarm of computers which all come to consensus about how much money each account contains by doing incredibly complicated math. In order to transfer bitcoins, you basically say, "I'm giving 0.0023 bitcoins to account XXX, here is enough history to prove that I legitimately have at least 0.0023 bitcoins." Everyone else on the networks is able to verify your proof. As soon as 51% of the network agrees that your transaction is legitimate, the transaction "goes through."
