So let me get this straight--with this new update I don't have to get the Wii classic controller to play Wii games with a controller, right? I can just use the Gamepad? Because with the current near-gameless state of the Xbone and PS4 (And the price drops and awesome-looking bundles) the WiiU is looking pretty good, and there's a bunch of good-looking Wii games that I want to play, but I was concerned that I would have to buy two controllers--the classic for Wii games and the pro controller for the WiiU. I love spending money, but jesus.

If so, someone should probably update the OP with this info!

Sorry, you can use the gamepad as a screen but you can not use it as a controller. I have no idea if the gamepad counts as a sensor bar to point the wiimote at, but regardless it's pretty much completely useless unless being scrunched up with the gamepad sitting on your knees like Seabhac described sounds appealing to you.

For what it's worth I don't think anyone has been able to use the Gamepad with Wii homebrew either, so it's probably harder than it seems. I think Nintendo would have to actually update the original Wii's firmware to support/recognize it? And that's obviously on the backburner.

e: I think eventually you will be able to use the Gamepad in Wii Mode but given the work they'd have to do you probably won't see it until the Spring or Summer.

Choose from any of the basic evolutions of Pokemon across all generations, spend EXP to learn new moves or save up for evolution. Poke$ to buy healing and combat items.

I might actually get into MOBAs if this happened which it never will.

I love how loving invested people are in Nintendo sales figures. Like, why do you personally care how well a system does? Even better is when people brag about it. Like, really? Really guy? I just like videogames.

The gamepad does have a sensor bar in it, it's located where the camera is. It isn't useless if you know how to use the stand for the controller.

Super Mario 3D World is basically what would happen if you took the emotion "Joy" and made it into a video game. It's so much fun, doubly so in multiplayer.

I kinda do that anyway. I think most of us do. The most common statement I heard with Wii is "Wii360/PSWii" where people got a Wii to compliment the other systems.

If the Wii U was $100 less people would probably do the same. For a lot of people, they hope all of the good third party stuff just gets released on PC.

Are you familiar with tower defense games? It is like that except instead of positioning towers, you have pre-defined towers and control single heroes who fight to protect their own and take down the enemies. It began from a Warcraft 3 Mod and most MOBAs play similar to the Hero units in that.

The only launch console that I can think was completely worth it in the first year was the Super Nintendo. Final Fantasy II came out on my birthday right after I finished Super Mario World and by the time I was done obsessing over it, there was a ton of games out.

Of course, back in those days you rarely purchased games. Most games were rented. Before I was buying games used I only had maybe 8 SNES games that were purchased. But I probably played 200+ SNES games due to rentals.

Yeah, same here. Watch_Dogs is going to be on the PC and Persona 5 is going to be on the PS3, so right now there's only one game for the PS4 that I want (MGS5), and that's not coming until next year. And it might be coming for the PC anyway!

Meanwhile, there's a bunch of WiiU exclusives that I think look good and a whole catalog of Wii games that I wanted to play but never did because I never bought a Wii, plus no less than three bundles for under $400 that come with games I want.

They are insanely popular though. For reference, Dota 2 is still way, way behind LoL in terms of active users and it still peaks at over 500,000 concurrent users every day.

You have to word the feature in very specific ways to keep it from being disappointing. Basically, the GamePad becomes an extra TV that you can play Wii games on.

The gamepad's sensor bar works fine. It's disappointing that the pads buttons cant act as Classic Controller #1 or something like that, but it seems understandable. Making the Wii games show up on the pad sounds like a relatively simple case of a system-level "output to wireless transmitter doohicky instead of just HDMI," while something like "use a controller that didnt even exist when game was made" would be a lot more work considering that Wii games were entirely self contained. Practically nothing was done on the system level and the games couldnt even be patched.

Not saying impossible, but its likely more effort than Nintendo thinks its worth.
