Dogen posted:This is an across the board trend to have smaller but more dense and detailed models. It's really noticeable in Star Wars where they're on the third iteration of some vehicles. I think it's a good thing, though. I noticed it first with Fallingwater. You'd expect it to be much larger, but it's just a very dense, very detailed model. As someone who doesn't want to devote a lot of space to LEGO creations, I actually like this trend.

Been awhile since I made any spaceships, and the combination of a challenge, a bunch of brick separators and Novvember inspired me to make this: the Vic Separator! Despite a period of waning innovation and production, the deep space Ice Planet 2002 manages to cough out unique and competitive products from time to time. This particular unit is based upon captured alien technology, which has been encountered within Ice Planet territory: The Vic Separator uses a less advanced, reverse-engineered version of the alien's mysterious propulsion system. Due to the lower output, the VS is equipped with eight of the new engines, which are then overcharged to achieve a very respectable thrust ratio. It's capable of both atmospheric and space flight, with performance in the latter being described as 'very swoosh-able'. While the cockpit is cramped and not able to support extended missions, the bubble canopy and below-the-horizon forward view makes it an excellent dog fighter. The VS brandishes two compact Fusion Lances, as well as four soft-target pulse cannons. While the pulse cannons have been around since Classic times, the Fusion Lances are down-scaled versions of those found on much larger modern vessels. The combination of speed and heavy-hitting makes the Vic Separator extremely useful to the limited combat forces on Ice Planet 2002; as alien activity increases, they are sure to see plenty of action. The Mini Modulars set is 17 dollars off today, and there's a few small Friends sets for half off if you want some bulk Friends colored stuff/minifigs. Also a shitload of Chima stuff for half off, and the more recent sets are like 5-15 dollars off like the Gatorboat.

Toys R Us has a few Hobbit/LotR sets discounted. Goblin King battle is 40% off. The US definitely has more stuff on sale. With the exception of last week's triple VIP points, S@H has not had remarkable sales lately.

Amazon's going to be having some Lego sets on their Flash Deals today. http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox/?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957 Sort by Category: Toys & Games and choose Upcoming. Most of the sets are ~$25 and less, but they've got the $130 Helms Deep coming up at 4:45 Pacific (in just under 3 hours). Earlier Lego sales were 30-35% off and all sold out, so figure Helms Deep will be around that.

This is a huge YMMV but you can try to buy it ahead of time and have them price match. They should do it for you, since I bought a $150 steam cleaner 2 weeks ago, and saw today it was a lightening deal for $98, I emailed them and they issued me a refund for the difference.

My last PAB was on the 20th of october, it was sent to be shipped the 12th and is still in transit.

What are the odds of me picking up The Orc Forge - 9476 before it officially retires? I was lucky with the Gandalf Arrives - 9469 and hit up a desereted local K Mart over the big weekend, but I haven't seen The Orc Forge since I have been collecting the Lord of the Rinds sets. Any of the veteran Lego shoppers have any insight into when or if they restock their online shelves with more Orc Forges?

Well guys, I finally got a job. I am now a Brick Specialist at the King of Prussia Lego store. Unfortunately, I am now worried about how much of my paycheck I will actually be bringing home and how much will just be me getting paid in Lego bricks. I did pick up the Lego Back to the Future DeLorean today though. Edit: The REAL Gtab Fan posted:I have a lego question as me and the girlfriend have picked up a few sets to play with and want to try some more. The newer one has different minifigures, and does not come with the speeder bike, but it looks to be an overall better quality model, particularly in the side sponson guns. Edit 2: My bad, the new one does come with a speeder, it just folds up inside. jadebullet fucked around with this message at 02:08 on Dec 2, 2013 |

So apparently I work in cycles because there seems to be a recurring thing going on where I stop building things for six months at a time, then realize that I still like doing Lego stuff. I ended up doing two last-minute Vipers for Nnovvember; the Virago, which can transform into a cute little think tank, and the ZIG Mk.2, a somewhat extensive overhaul of my previous attempt at Zero Wing's hero ship. I also finished up two incomplete projects in my on-off project to reinterpret a bunch of spaceships from Freelancer, in this case, the Cavalier light fighter and the Defender heavy fighter. Beyond just building stuff, one of the things I've been trying to focus on for a while is presentation. Don't get me wrong, I love LDD more than probably a lot of dudes, but I keep seeing a lot of otherwise stellar builds washed out in the background noise of everything else because the default render output is just so goddamn bland. Even the POVRAY renders that I've seen cropping up more and more still lack that je ne sais quoi, so here's my attempt at making virtual building bricks stand out a bit more from the crowd.

And don't worry, I had the same concerns too when I started working as a Brick Specialist. Over time my willpower returned and I was able to resist the urge to buy all the coolest sets. Well, willpower coupled with a lack of places to put new sets in my house Ooo, and one of the best perks of the job? Taking home sets to build for the store displays!

Oh yeah, I definitely can't wait to get to build a store display. So far it is definitely a pretty nice job, there are far worse things I could be doing with my life. That being said, do you have to deal with the occasional neckbeard who will come in and get upset with you that you 1) can't remove the Star Wars guys from the magnet or 2) can't open up a brand new $400 Death Star and fish out the mini figures for them since they absolutely have to have that one guy, but they are definitely not going to buy an entire set? So far I have had this happen twice, and both times it was for "their collection" and they were quite unhappy about it, though apparently I had just missed a guy on black friday who got really upset about us not selling Jabba The Hutt seperately.

I went for the City Advent Calendar this year too. Star Wars last year, but it didn't seem very good this year. And lots of people seemed to think that, because the City ones were sold out on Amazon pretty quick, and there's still a bunch of Star Wars ones left today even. Going to do my usual thing of keeping all the extra pieces together and making a weird Frankenstein's monster thing at the end. Also ordered a Tower of Orthanc. I quite liked that promotional Christmas Tree Truck thing, and 10% off looked pretty good to me, and I'd be kicking myself if it got discontinued before I got one. Still gotta build this Haunted House though. And I'm so jealous of you guys who work at Lego stores. Although I'm sure there's times when people are dicks, but Lego. Was looking at the picture on the Advent Calendar today and thinking it must have been really fun to set that up.

What would be the ideal adhesive for gluing down 4 32x32 base plates? If it matters it will be glued to a glossy painted surface that will be sanded to accomodate the adhesive.
