Anybody have a Mooer pedal? A local shop is having a decent sale on them and I'm thinking about getting their pitch box and maybe the rat clone.

I've owned both.

The pitch box sucks, it doesent sound like its quite in tune, which is insane. The detune chours sounds are nice though.

The rat clone on the other hand is amazing. It actually sounds better than the current production RAT 2s - its got a litle more grind in the low end and the lm308 chip they dont plus the option to switch to turbo rat mode.

The selector switch on mine broke but I liked it enough to get another one.

I've liked all the mooers I've owned except the digital ones. They do good clones but cloning DSP is obviously serving to be difficult for them.

1. Anyone got a recommendation on a compressor that can get me nice sustain while also maintaining a wide sound spectrum? My hollowbody (casino) isn't holding quite as long as I'd like.

2. Im playing my casino almost straight into a fender pro jr which has a nice beefy midrange, and I'd like to throw an mxr eq in the chain to pull in some extra freqs thru the mix. Band member said he used some other equal pedal that actually detuned him a little bit.... I've never heard of this but is it a thing? The 6 and 10 band look good but the 18v for 10 band is really putting me off - is it worth it for 10 or no?

The boost aspect of the 10 isn't really anything for me since im looking at a mostly-on scenario.

I have the 10 band and a Casino and I think they work really well together. The lower frequencies on the 10 band allow me to EQ out a lot of content that isn't musically useful. Killing feedback seems to be a job for one of the lower-mid frequencies, I forget which one.18v apparently translates to more headroom, which is one factor that might help keep your sound more "open". I haven't done any A/B comparisons though.

Definitely. The 6-band frequencies are slightly different from the 10-band. Bumping the gain slider a touch can add clarity as well.

I had forgotten I posted that here. It has a few dings on it now as it lived in a shared jam room for a while and was used as an emergency metal pedal. I'll snap a picture so you can see. Still have the box as well.

Actually... I don't have any PMs going back that far, but I am pretty sure, I think, that I sold it to you a very long time ago? 2009ish would be the time frame? If so it'd be pretty cool to reconnect with my old pedal, regardless of whatever dings it's obtained in the meantime. If not, I'd like to have a TM around anyway, they're handy and Zoom did some cool stuff with the power delivery to give them a surprisingly high range for their clipping behavior.

Edit: Oh god this is too precious, look it's baby agreed talking about a few high gain pedals he has hahaha the things to come, you still-in-college motherfucker, the things to come

It is your old pedal, it would have been nearly 3 years since you sold it to me.

I took a couple of pictures, I'm realizing now I should have wiped off any dust. Also, the knobs appear to have been painted(?) at some point and now it is starting to peel away, I tried to show the worst of that.

I'm new to guitar and looking to get a few effects as I learn. I was wondering if there is a good multi effects pedal out there that i should be looking for on ebay like a boss me-70 or a vox tonelab? after reading some parts of this thread i was wondering if 2 EHX pedals would do a close job. i had watched a video on the wiggler since i really like the tremolo. and a english muff for some of the blues sounds. i would have to find them used cause im just getting into this with a tight budget.

The boss ME pedals should be fine. Id go with the 50 rather than the 70 then get seperate pedals if/when you know what you want.

The CS-3 has a tone control, which is nice, but it's a little noisier than the CS-2 and it sort of leaves its own mark on the tone whenever you dial in more than light compression. Hate using cork-sniffer terms like Transparent and Squash, but it's not particularly transparent, and therefore doesn't do a good job of providing heavy 80s squashed Dyna-Comp like compression. It IS, however, clicky and spanky as hell if that single coil clucky thing is your bag.

The CS-2 generally goes for about $50 more, but if you search, you can find them for cheap. I just got one and it's seemingly without the shortcomings of the 3. Hiss is noticeably less, and to a weirdo like me, it sounds less like a pedal and more like an exaggeration of your playing dynamics.

Hopefully ANY of that made sense.

I'd recommend the Joyo compressor over Boss but that's just personal preference. Boss pedals are built like tanks so if you like it, it'll last

A used Analogman compressor or Keeley clone are awesome and pretty popular, a big leap from a CS-2. They add a bit to the tone, but in an appreciable way, unlike the Boss.

You will also want to add the cmatmods deluxe compressor to your list of things to try and buy used. Its less of a name brand than an analogman or keeley but its well made and a Ross clone with all the right parameters sent out to knobs. I got mine used for less than $75 as I recall.

http://www.cmatmods.com/deluxe-compressor.html

You could also clone a Ross yourself fairly easily. I likely would have gone that route for the fun of it but I wasn't making my own pedals back when I bought my cmatmods.

Man, it'd be cool to get my old pedal back, just for sentimental value (as well as hey that thing sounds heavy as hell through the right amp). PM me if you're interested in selling it, I'd love to see about getting it back. Glad to see it's been well used in the interim, doesn't bother me one bit, it wasn't designed to sit around, rather to be stepped on :)

So my Phase 90 from the 90s is starting to poo poo out. I figure I'll take the opportunity to upgrade my board instead of just plain replace the thing. How do the vintage Phase 45s and the newer Phase 100s compare?

Probably worth asking: where do ya'll put your phase shifters in your chain?

I honestly don't know. It sounds aces with my setup, a Jazzmaster through an Ampeg Jet and Fender Pro Jr. I know Nels Cline swears by his. It's noisy, but most comps are, and it squishes and sustains in a musical way.

Otis Reddit

I got a CS-2 for cheap and it just sounds more natural and subtle than the CS-3. A little less hiss too, makes up for the lack of a tone control. But if you're careful about when and where you use your 3, it's more than adequate.

I usually go Guitar -> Ibanez WH-10 > TC Elec Polytune > Boss CS2 > Ibanez TS9 > Boss SD 1 > Phase 90 > TC Elec Hall of Fame > Fender blackface or silverface.

Phaser I move around a lot. Sometimes I'll put it post reverb, usually pre distortion, and sometimes I'll put it just before time based stuff (where it belongs). Depends on the kind of music, really.

I'm running this line right now. It's sort of wonky, but it's working extremely well for my uses.

Compressor -> OD -> Wah -> EQ -> Tuner
->FX Loop Send<-
Gate -> Reverb -> Delay -> Chorus
->FX Loop Return<-
Volume
Z-12

If I needed/used a phaser I'd put it in the FX loop with all the other modulation.

My actual line goes SG EB3 knock off---> saturn works A/b/y ---> korg pitch black ---> wooly mammoth clone ---> caroline icarus boost ---> saturworks looper w/ feedback ---> line 6 DL4 ---> boss CE-5 ---> back to looper ---> channel one ampeg v4

saturn works a/B/y ----> Boss VE-20 ---> channel two ampeg v4

noise/ambience on lock and almost zero tone drop ( tested it by a/b the first line against a clear line )

edit: I can not recommend the icarus boost enough. It is a pedal made locally in Columbia,SC and almost any serious musician here has one. It is almost a "better" pedal. Often people just leave it on the whole time.

I just ordered a POG 2, and took my pedalboard home from my practice space for the weekend to squeeze the POG on somewhere. It's occurring to me that I might need a bigger board; I've tried doing some rearranging, and I'm not sure how this is going to work. Right now I have a LYT 32 which has been great, but I feel I may be outgrowing it. Does anyone have any suggestions for larger boards? All I've found so far is the Pedaltrain Pro, which would only give me a couple more inches.
