This is a funny picture because it subverts the trend of seeing stickers like that that reduce the original printed-on-the-tag price, not increase it. AndyElusive posted:This is a funny picture because...it's a price increase of five dollars? It's funny because it's a store-made sticker covering up the MSRP to INCREASE the price rather than decrease it. The MSRP, manufacturer suggested retail price, is something that you usually NEVER see things actually sold for because it's ridiculously high for every product ever. Its sole intent is so that stores can sell things to you as 75% OFF RETAIL!!! and still make money because the "retail price" is so inflated. The only exceptions are typically designer items such as Oakley, who use some sort of voodoo magic (read: price fixing) to get vendors to sell their products for the same price as every other store. The fact that you can see the MSRP behind the store's poorly made sticker adds humor to the situation, implying that the store is run by buffoons who think they can cheat their customers out of money with such a poorly-implemented scheme. That's why it's funny. How sad is it that I can no longer tell the difference between lovely trolls and run-of-the-mill idiots? The internet has ruined me.

Yep, If a Chinese person wanted to have proper English subtitles for any film nowadays there are any number of websites that will give it to them in a .srt file in about 2 seconds. Those movies *are* like from a decade ago though, it was probably just a brief blip in history in between the established popularity of certain technologies.

Typically they come from China via Hong Kong, where there is a big grey-market industry around "distributing" Chinese-language movies from the mainland with English subtitles, regardless of the original language of the movie.
