mobychat: 2000s moby for the most part is terrible, wait for me was his first good album in... ever maybe? i enjoyed play when i was younger but lol it's so bad now, south side still 'bangs' tho

destroyed is okay and i haven't listened to his newest one but it's probably okay? i think once he stopped being popular then he had a lot more freedom to do what he wants which is really chill poo poo

portisheadchat: yeah you really need to be in a certain mood for them but they're aight, never really got into much beyond dummy

also is it just me or does their vocalist totally sound like sean connery in this song with her lisp?

south side is still really good

not surprisingly, i suppose, the b sides on that album are better than the entire album. this song is incredibly great chill / ambient track and i think if he just focused more on this poo poo he'd be a contender for carbon based lifeforms slot as 'greatest ambient artist' a much coveted crown

kind of? but how would you know when you can only listen to a minute of it before turning it off?

well... i guess it's good to see he's making a lot of music. that's for sure :v:

Well, I mean all his performances are normally "on the fly" pieces.

He hammers out a basic beat on a drum machine, starts contorting it, feeding it into other things, hammers out a melody, drops a sample.

It's just really interesting to watch, and makes me wish I knew my knobs as well as he knows his.

i actually appreciate those type of music making processes more than stuff that takes a long time and is over produced. it's like hearing a type of art, of a certain craft or process, and tweaking things to hear variations of close to the same process. i know that sounds like im on :weed: but i really don't know how else to explain it right now. making music this way has been a huge awakening for me too, because now i'm actually making more than one track a month, and enjoying it a ton more. before, chances were i'd work on something for so long and in the end i wouldn't really like it much. this way i'll have more stuff i can look back on and like too

it took me a real long time to realize that good sounding electronic music can have so few elements. sorry for ranting

oh no, I fully agree.

When I finally sat down and said "i've wanted to make music all my life, through taking piano lessons, to failing and futzing with the guitar, let's just do this"

I had a friend who sold me a kaossilator pro on the cheap cause he didn't use it, and for a few months, I learned to make a quick loop, then layer elements around it, and occasionally vocode some weird poo poo in, and I liked it.

That's how I started, and how I kept up, but then I got too complex, and realized I wanted something I could perform on a stage that was recognizable and reproduce able on the fly. Alas, that's where I faltered and hosed up. I mean I'm getting better. I went from making a "sound a day" to maybe putting out one thing a month on a good month.

It truly infuriates me, and I'm amazed that guy can do poo poo on the fly, but then redo them at a whims notice.

yeah having a setup where you can sit down and start composing with the least effort possible is vital

hopefully that porno jump start guy will be able to take his favorite pieces and record each part into his DAW and mix/master them so they sound better
