The best part of shopping on Craigslist is the people. *pulls up to seller's house* *guy my age with face tattoos and the little soul patch that prison rapists have comes out the door: "MOM I'M GOING OUT DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING" *we chat about car, he opens door and the smell of weed rushes out. it's everywhere inside the car* *later, on the test drive: "so, what do you do here in town?" "i make bongs."

I had a classic CL car interaction the other night. Here is the ad (emphasis mine): quote:I have a 1991 Mazda Miata convertible 5speed with only 72,000 miles on it runs and drives great brand new Toyo tires all the way around it fresh oil change new tune up new clutch after market Hurst shifter nice clean interior nothing wrong mechanicaly only one thing wrong with it needs windshield and its only $33 at U Part It in Chillicothe. I need this car gone asap I will even get the title notarized for you call or text anytime ..[contact info] $2200 I exchanged texts with the guy and told him I might be able to come out on the weekend and see it. He says he is available that same night and he wants to sell it ASAP. This kind of sends up some red flags, but it isn't far from my house, so what the heck. He tells me about the windshield, but says it's drivable and I can take it for a spin. I arrive to find a rust covered miata under a tarp. The convertible top is >60% duct tape. And it has a flat tire. I look at the rear of it and the side marker lamp's bulb is hanging from a wire inches from the ground. I was pissed that he blatantly lied to me but I held my tongue, thanked him and left. Not 10 mins later he sends me a text saying he would sell it to me for $1900 if I wanted it. Ah, Craigslist.

Edit: just so it's clear, the car smelled like pot, but I didn't see any actually in the car. blk fucked around with this message at 07:14 on Dec 2, 2013 |

Driver for sure since they have care, custody and control. Unless the passenger owned up to everything you're getting nicked too.

In any of those trucks, it should be possible to get into the low 30s, highway. Almost any 2wd 4 cylinder manual compact pickup will get close. I'm also considering an 80's Nissan, Mitsu/Dodge, Ranger, or even an old Courier. I could easily get a 90's 4cyl for the same price, but I really like the aesthetics of the 80's Japanese trucks. Probably should sell the Roadmaster first...

Early to mid 80s Japanese trucks are usually carbureted or have throttle body injection. There were exceptions, but the sweet spot for fuel economy is an 89-94 2wd short cab 5 speed Toyota pickup with a 22R-E. I got around 28mpg average with mine, and it had a gigantic lumber rack and dubious maintenance history.

Been screwing around on CL's auto section recently because I am selling a car. Saw some good poo poo. Saw an ad for 1975 Bricklin SV1 GullWing and thought 'holy heck Bricklins are pretty sweet.' http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/4226602865.html Better when not covered in duct tape and plastic I suppose. The best part is where the ad states $29,110.000 REAL VALUE. I wonder how he determined that. http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/4224962945.html And I saw a guy looking to trade his dubiously modified 2007 BMW 3 series for an STI or an EVO. Specifically he wants someone to take over the 8k he still owns on the 335xi AND he wants an STI or Evo in return. Ok then. But he mostly like taking pictures of his BMW hiding behind stuff such as: A finger! A fence! A tree! http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/4220251387.html Gotta check out a custom 96 Geo Metro, right? Was hoping for big things and was disappointed by the exterior. Some new rims, doesnt this guy have any vision? Wait, whats that white stuff around the windshield on the interior? Clearly I underestimated this guy! This is one of my favorite threads on all of SA.

Toyotas tend to command a high price and I don't like their styling as much, but they're certainly worth considering. There was a beautiful late 70's Courier in Austin a month ago that went pretty fast, would've loved that as I'd be happy with a 2.3 to mess with.
