Wow, we have a true Arahat in this thread, truly Something Awful is now reached another level of quality posters. All the Arahats I know (I know a lot) argue with people on the internet about semantics and pedantry and then say they don't have precepts and can do whatever the hell they want to do!

I'm me, me my my own, I'm buddhist, but, you, they, them, they're, they and you are not. I'm like, essentially, awakened as poo poo, as far as me, or me myself goes, being who I am, which is me.

Buddha raised a flower. None knew, save one. Mahakashyapa smiled, before his face wrinkled up, and he started shouting "Wow, are you guys seriously like this? Oh my god. Wow, forgot how dumb everyone is, except for me. You guys, holy guacamole."

OK we're going to sarcasm mode now. Sarcasm and irony are a sickness. They are a defense against authentic expression. Say what you really think! It will be good for you.

At the the time of the Buddha's parinibbana, Ananda waited at his side and wept when he realized the Tathagata was going to pass. The Buddha saw this display of emotion and told Ananda he was not actually a Buddhist.

A young monk approached Joshu, saying, "Master, I have just entered the monastery, please give me your teaching!" Joshu replied, "Have you eaten?" The young monk confirmed, "Uh, yes I have." Joshu calmly replied "Then you should wash your bowl." The young monk's face got really angry as he screamed at him "That is retarded. Are you serious? Come on. Ohhh my god. That's not even what I asked for, talk about bad faith. I'm outta here."

The story where the buddha tells the angry young monk about pulling the arrow out rather than refusing until you know about who shot it, what kind of bow he used, where he was from, etc, but instead of "getting it", the monk goes "gently caress you bitch"

ObamaCaresHugSquad posted:Not awakened, I never used that word. But I'm over the whole thing, and the rest is just obstacles to be patient about, rather than anything insurmountable. I'm still in the dark forest, but I see the treeline in the distance with the sun beaming through. I don't need anything to point out the direction of that treeline. You would do well to not put words in my mouth. This might be another example of failing to understand nuance. ObamaCaresHugSquad posted:
Maybe you didn't claim to be awakened, but that seems to be a claim of some attainment. Maybe not an arahant, maybe just a sotāpanna. Either way, it indicates a very high level of attainment that comes after decades of study and meditation. It also means the person has done away with self-view, and has perfected Right View. Considering that your view of suffering is unorthodox to what the Buddha actually taught, I'm going to just go out on a limb and say that isn't true. But being that I am apparently not a Buddhist I can not be trusted in these things.

Earlier in the thread, I would talk a lot more about what constitutes a lie, but I don't feel like it anymore, because you're in baby "I want to be right" mode. But a quote from Wittgenstein is instructive: "Someone who knows too much finds it difficult not to lie". He was referring specifically to semantic usage of language, but it can be understood more broadly as well. It is very difficult to speak clearly. I would agree though, that the intent to deceive for personal gain would not exist for an Arahant.
