I just had an awesome idea for this game.

Derelict Stations - A new type of "planet" that isn't really a planet at all, but rather an abandoned space station. Essentially, this would be a planet-sized dungeon made of interconnected rooms. Primary enemies would be security drones, but you'd also have to look out for others who've come aboard to scavenge. Unlike being planetside, within a station your food comes primarily from loot, although you might also stumble upon a greenhouse in which to plant your seeds or a livery stable overrun with escaped, meaty monsters.

Basically a planet type for if you don't care about mining and want the game to be all dungeon-crawl, all the time.

Spacehulks would be a pretty sweet addition. You could have pristine ones maintained by the aforementioned robots, rusty decrepit ones that are partially flooded and full of horrible aliens...

Actually, this just makes me want random ships that you can find on the map and beam over to and help/pillage.

Occasionally having Derelict stuff as the core of smaller Moon planets would be pretty cool too. Ancient things that have just accumulated debris for so long they've become small moons themselves.

Has anyone found a blue flashlight yet? Seen plenty of greens and reds, but no blues.

How did I even get here?

Pillbug
So after finishing the circuit of the T1 Ice World, I killed two huge enemies. First one dropped a 2-Handed "Typhoon Horror", which looks cool and fires a scatterburst of bubbles.

T1 World enemies I ran into next hit by the bubbles take 5 or 9 damage, slashing them is 22 :geno: Guess it's the 3 Armor penetration at work compared to 5. I'll stick with my 1-hand Iron sword I crafted, thanks.

Then I got my second big monster drop. Wait, this thing is called the "Cthulhu Killer"? Nice, maybe my luck has finally turned around-

I've used a spear quite a bit, actually, though it's pretty cheesy.

Basically, against the guys with sniper rifles who one shot me, I'd build a little wall of dirt between them and me. Then, I'd dig out a tiny hole to get their attention and when they came over, I'd spear them through the dirt wall I built.

It's definitely cheesy, but the spear is a natural choice for those situations.

you could do that with any other better weapon.

But if spears could be aimed they'd be a valid and actually nice choice, plus you could totally poke people from underneath and above with impunity.

Also speaking of cosmetics, there should totally be an avian back piece based off those wingy things aztec warriors used to wear. Half way between a banner and a wing.

I think spears have slightly longer range than other weapons (2H swords are the next longest, I think).

Still, aim-able spears would be great.

I want there to be a random planet feature where all the weapons dropped on that planet have the awesomeness of their names inversely proportional to their actual power, so an amazing rare drop would be called "Broken Bopper" while all the common loot is called stuff like "Murdermaster's Deathbringer" and "Godslay Omega."

So I built a Distress Beacon and got my rear end kicked and there is no quest after it. Sooooo do I just planet hop now? I have no idea where I'm supposed to get anything for a metal work station. I'm kind of lost. What is the best course of action from this point on? Am I supposed to dig dig dig?

Is the first planet the same for everyone? I found an area that looked like a screenshot from the game. It was an Egyptian themed temple dungeon thing.

Planet hop for a while. You shouldn't be fighting the UFO for quite a while.
Hops in system and hops between moons are cheap. Remember, you can use wood in your space ship.

I'm on a 2010 MBP with a GT 330M and it runs smoothly as long as I knock the resolution down (from 1080. Running an external monitor). Otherwise things get a bit choppy in some of the more complicated dungeons.

Also, there is probably going to be an update that wipes characters/saves so don't get too attached.

If you're just curious with no built up excitement or hype, I wouldn't recommend jumping in right now. There will likely be a character wipe in a day or two with probably more to come. They're still making sweeping balance changes and that probably won't stop any time soon. The game IS really fun but if you're just now discovering it, you could probably stand to wait a month or two for things to settle down. It just got into beta, after all.

One of the devs Molly, posted some instructions on Twitter the other day about how to fix this. Basically you can just look up your planet visit history for your character and find your old home planet that way. Far from ideal, but if you have any idea what your home planet was you should recognize it when you look up the coords ingame.

So I'm running into a weird glitch.

Randomly, as I'm playing, the game will suddenly switch to a zoomed-in perspective. The HUD is where it's supposed to be, but everything else is zoomed way tighter in on the character, making it really hard to see. This tends to happen when something requires a significant load (like beaming down to the planet, beaming up, or dying).

I now have a save file that's more or less corrupted because the game instantly tries to do this when loading the file and gets stuck mid-way, never actually loading in. I created a new character and this glitch hit me again roughly 15 minutes in. That save file could well be unusable too, now.

I started playing this game yesterday, but this glitch didn't start happening until a couple hours ago.

There's another way!

Step one: Get a charlie or delta quad gun from the sky pirates, Assault rifle, pistol whatever you wish.

Step two: Head back to alpha.

Step three: Pick any planet and beam down. Drop a flag, or some other item to announce that you now own this planet and than pick a direction and go in it.

Step four: Kill. Everything. Sentient life, animals, everything. Clean out every temple, prison, castle and complex on the way

Step five: when you reach your flag of dominance, repeat the cycle on the next planet.

One thing I'd like is the option to enable full sandbox mode. No missions, no aggressive NPCs or monsters, just exploring, mining and building.
It's already basically sandbox mode anyway, it'd just be a checkbox on the character creator to turn off danger. It's kind of annoying when I just want to build but I have to fight off monsters anyway. Obviously it'd only be an option, default would stay as it is.
