This was probably covered in this thread somewhere in the form of a link, but there's been so much that I never got to all of it. Anyways, what's some stuff that's similar to Heaven's Gate-era Ferraro? Stellar Om Source's Heartlands Suite was pretty close, but I'm looking for unrepentant new age drone stuff.

for this new age kinda stuff, JD Emmanuel is also highly recommended. Here's his bandcamp page: http://jdemmanuel.bandcamp.com/

Also, someone mentioned Dolphins into the Future, so I can link to De Oceaan Der GEluid again. It's an amazing, amazing radioshow by the guy from Dolphins into the Future.

As much as I love this new direction since Replica, there is something so comforting about his early melancholy landscapes

Agreed, some of his tracks on those early pieces make me feel all warm inside, soothed. Memory Vague, Betrayed in the Octogon, Blue Drive, A Pact Between Strangers, Behind the Bank. Oh man. It was so annoying trying to listen to them by finding bad youtube uploads, with mislabels, poor organisation and low quality. Completely destroyed my will to seek them out, even though it was such a small thing.

I don't really get the significance of that track, no offense. Sounds pretty standard to me.

Anyways, Dolphins Into The Future is almost exactly what I wanted, so thanks for that and the other recs (which I'll get to at some point in the coming weeks)!

Ruined Lives is brilliant, probably my favorite work of his honestly.

I've been itching to look into Iasos recently, ouiseaux. His story is interesting - he apparently had a near-death experience and tried to recapture the celestial music he heard in the afterlife on his own. Steve Roach apparently also took inspiration from a near-death experience he had.

I was trying to think of what the new age drone stuff reminded me of and I finally remembered: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dD2ggMnjgbg

I wanna see someone channel this (or maybe Ferraro and Lopatin have to some extent).

I had the chance to see Laraaji a few weeks ago. Absolutely sublime.

This Saint Pepsi music video is just incredible. Also makes me thirsty. Which may or may not be the point to it. Like, it's commercialism pushed to the max but it makes me want to relish in it.

Cool stuff.

Also, there's another new JF track out that is weird: https://soundcloud.com/b-e-b-e-t-u-n-e/pt-1

I don't necessarily feel it that much, but it's not bad.

Is this also the thread to talk about gents like Bernard Parmegiani and Luc Ferrari, or do you have another thread for "fancy new serious" music?

I like Oren Ambarchi, here's a video

I guess we can talk about any avant-garde / experimental music since it's all tied together and there's nowhere else to talk about it to my knowledge. De Natura Sonorum owns and IIRC Parmegiani put loads of intellectual guff around it to appease the academic institutions, but probably just put a load of really really cool sounds together and had a lot of fun

RE: Oren Ambarchi, if anyone hasn't checked him out, put 15 minutes aside, grab some headphones, and listen to this masterpeice.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cV4RUvgU1E

His earlier work can be deceptive b/c it's very much in the spirit of electroacoustic composition like Keith Rowe (who he collaborated with on Flypaper) but he's a diverse musician with a wide range of influences from EAI, kraut-rock, psych, jazz and ambient/drone. Still penetrating the body of his work but Grapes From The Estate and Pendulum's Embrace is classic Ambarchi

I really like the production on this. Those synths or whatever sound straight from Vangelis (I know this is a completely different vibe he's going for, but it's funny that he seems like he can't shake certain aspects of his past aesthetic).

Oh my this thread is perfect.
I have been in love with Vaporwave (or Broporwave I guess...) for the last 6 months or so ever since a friend sent me this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WNwXm_OxOo. There was a track that sampled Kajagoogoo, and I was sold.

Then I finally listened to OPN when R Plus came out and was blown away. Knowing there is this whole world of awesome, experimental sample based drone/ambient music makes me so happy.

So yeah, this is great. Thanks.
