Massey (I don't want to say his last name). Currently handling the Hobbit, did the Dark Knight. He's the #1 guy at WB but the genesis of trailers is done at A/V vendors. I don't know which vendor did that teaser but the original creation can be credited to whoever was the editor that put it together originally and I have no idea who that is. Really a lot of people contribute to the creation of a teaser/trailer/TV spot. The SVP at the studio, his/her manager and assistant, the producer, junior producer and editor at the vendor, then all the filmmakers and execs who view each cut and come to a consensus of what direction they're going to go with. Credit in the end, however goes to SVP/EVP in charge of the campaign and that's Massey in this case.

After reading Divergent... that was a very interesting way to cut the trailer. I recognized most of the scenes but it ended up feeling like a bit of a different plot. Like after first seeing the trailer before the book, I had thought the Dauntless initiation scenes were from some sort of "Divergent" resistance group, not just a regular faction. I guess that's a good way to appeal to both the book readers and the ones who didn't.

The fact its from the Wachowski's, makes that trailer even more disappointing as they normally have fantastic trailers (even if sometimes there movies a bit rubbish). We'll see though.

I'm willing to give it a go, but it feels like another Y/A novel adaptation aimed squarely at teens, and I can't help but feel that it'll just leave me cold since I won't be the demographic. Also, Channing Tatum looks super stupid in that make-up.

This looks like the type of big beautiful sci-fi epic that we haven't seen in a drat long time. I'm not trying to be facetious at all when I say that this reminded me of Battlefield Earth. So overwrought and self-serious. The casting of both the leads is so distracting- Mila Kunis looks like she's almost pasted into that world. I don't understand why their trailers try and show glimpses of every major effect in the movie- it just feels over the top. The "world-building" they get so excited about would be interesting if there was any visual flare, nuance, or originality to it, but it just looks so scrubbed clean- this could be literally any big-budget sci-film since 2005. edit: For god's sake, this trailer includes gems such as "you've been looking for something your whole life..." and "who are you?" "I'm here to help you", while cradling female in despair. At least when Luke Skywalker said that he was really charming. Jewmanji fucked around with this message at 03:44 on Dec 10, 2013 |

PaganGoatPants posted:I loved Speed Racer. I agree. Speed Racer was playful and fun. It was a wonderland of crazy racing on screen. Jupiter Ascending is giving me some seriously bad vibes from that trailer. It felt more like it was created with a paint-by-numbers kit. Space opera is always going to be a bit generic just because it's going to be so tied to the standard formulas but I didn't feel any of the playfulness I got from Speed Racer (to stick with that movie) or stylistic flourishes that draw me into other Wachowski films. It felt like a low effort, joyless outing with the precisely studio mandated amounts of action, spectacle, and romance all dutifully filled in and filed.

The plot of the movie is apparently the Queen of the Universe wanting to kill Snow White (Mila Kunis), and now the Big Bad Wolf (Channing Tatum) must rescue her. And they fall in love, apparently, kinda like in the comic book Fables.
