I think the idea of the poster is to try to get a "holy gently caress" sense of scale. I man you can always show Godzilla against buildings or whatever is the norm... but to show some skydivers jumping from 30,000 feet and Godzilla is so goddamned massive that only his scales make it into the frame a bit? That's pretty cool. I mean it's a cool idea. The poster is kinda lame. edit: Page Snipe have a poster:

Seconding this- it's a really nice hook for the casual audience, and I'm sure they'll get more into the strategy in the actual movie. I was cautiously optimistic about this, but now I'm really exctited. Bring on Godzilla!

All I can think is that airdropping soldiers at Godzilla is like throwing snacks at him. At least it's not 'Get me every fish in the city!'

Uncle Boogeyman posted:Well I mean part of it is I just think maybe you're remembering it wrong. For one, Lars Von Trier is not the person reading the voiceover at the end; Jordan Leth is. And the fifth obstruction is not "there is no fifth obstruction," it's that Jordan Leth is forced to assume directorial credit for a version of the film that was entirely prepared by Lars Von Trier, and read from a script that Von Trier wrote from Leth's point of view as if they were his own words. Essentially, the challenge of the fifth obstruction is that Leth is denied artistic input entirely and forced to take credit for a film he didn't make. Red_Museum posted:Godzilla Poster I guess I'm the only one who likes the poster. I didn't expect them to show Zilla just yet. They never outright do that anyway, so why would that change now? But the image itself isn't what I like about. It's the style. It almost looks like a painting, and I like that. It doesn't have that photoshoppy look to it. I like this ad campaign so far, so I'm intrigued to see what comes next.

I like the poster quite a bit, but the trailer doesn't really move me either way. The roar is cool, but I guess I'll just wait until the next trailer, see if that pumps me up a bit more. I still really like the Oppenheimer teaser.

It's kind of something the series wrestles with in general, but putting apes in tribal makeup is skirting the edge of some very uncomfortable territory.

Apes adopting more human characteristics, collecting in tribes, practicing facepainting as a way to associate themselves with their tribe and/or inspire more fear into (human) enemies. You can't really skip that whole development and go straight to Dr. Zaius schlurping Starbucks in his khakis and leather.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, from what I've heard, borrows enough from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes to be treated like a remake of it. Can't verify that though.
