Sometimes it's the small things in life that make everything worthwhile.

One of my coworkers is a sweet older guy - talkative, hard working, just all around good guy. His daughter is in prison for doing drugs, so he is raising his granddaughters himself. The youngest one is 16 months old, and recently she has been getting out of her crib. However, since we don't make a lot of money with this job, he has been sweating about buying a toddler bed and stuff for her, especially since it's the holiday season.

So 5 of us on our shift went in together and got a very nice used toddler bed, a Cars toddler bedding set (since that is her thing ever), 2 pillows, 2 little comforters, some extra sheets, and some cash to spend on whatever he wanted. We completely surprised him this morning - he had NO idea we did this for him. For the first time since I met him, he was completely speechless and had tears in his eyes. He hugged each one of us and could barely talk for the rest of the morning.

You are awesome. Thank you so much for sharing this!

I've been having a really, really lovely week, as detailed in the "why was your day awful today?" and "college complaints" threads, but this really is helping me feel better. Just such genuine friendship; two famous old actors who really, really love one another's company. It's seriously making me tear up. Thanks for posting this, really. You made a difference in my day.

We're suffering from a slight snow-apocalypse, and the local cats are freaking out at the notion of frozen water all over the place. Thankfully, some kind people established a homeless cat shelter:

Other people have built a temporary cat house:

That reminds me of my first apartment. It had a tiny balcony that was just barely above ground level, so low enough a cat could jump onto it. The balcony door was half-rotten and warped so it was a massive chore to try to open or close and ofcourse even when sealed as well as you could would leak heat in the winter, to a point where there was a significant spot under the door on the outside that would never freeze. There was virtually always a cat occupying that spot during the winter. Heat was a part of the rent so like a horrid, wasteful human being I never had the door fixed during my 18 months living there.

They're not homeless, per-se - they're campus cattes (which I believe applies to the dorms as well). They get shots etc and are never short of food.

Every winter we turn the yard swing into a cat shelter with tarps and cardboard and we kept our old cat carriers and insulated them, too. Only one or two neighbors complain and I get slapped with a fine once in a while but I don't really like the notion of cats freezing to death.

You can't post that without posting AP's other cards. Part of her Ask Me About Being A Birthday Party Princess thread; which, on a sidenote, if haven't read already then I can pretty much guarantee it's up your alley if you're reading the feel good thread.

Also, I asked UltimateMango if I could post up a few of the christmas cards I did on commission for him, and he said yes. So here are a few of my favorites from the bunch:

I made them like I did the dinosaur birthday card for my brother...lots and lots of teeny bits of paper glued onto cardstock. :3: They look simple, but it actually takes at least 3-4 hours to make just one, since there's so much tiny cutting and gluing involved. You have to be super slow and careful, so as not to get fingerprints and glue smudges on the teeny bits. The bug card took about 6 hours because of all the small pieces.

And the dinosaur card:

On to less skeevy topics, today is my brother's birthday! I am not dressing up like a princess. But I am going to visit him and my family, and I spent hours last night making him a card, in our proud household tradition of putting way too much effort into gifts:
