Actually, if they really like you, get this. Lente (spring) is the best beer I've ever had, bar none. But drat is that pricey...

edit: Leipziger Gose is loving awesome. I found a 12oz bottle at a store alongside the bizarrely shaped and very expensive 750s so it's nice to be able to try it without springing for a $20 750. It's definitely as good or better than Troublesome, but it won't be a summer session beer at $5/12oz.

Swiss Army Cockatoo
Cacatua multitoolii

Busted into two of the BIF bottles I got from KudosX and I really enjoyed myself this evening. First was Hoppin Frog Cafe BORIS, an imperial oatmeal coffee stout. Nose was super full of coffee but tasted a lot more of bakers chocolate with a really attenuated coffee finish. Surprising because of how much coffee dominates the nose, but pleasant. Had GLBC Blackout Stout as the second one and it was very nice. Pretty standard stout profile, which I'd expect from GLBC, but suuuuuper creamy. I've been so busy I haven't really had time to drink beer at home, but these were really enjoyable while being a Dota 2 manchild.

Other beer highlight of my week was a trip to Gore Range Brewery after skiing 34K+ at the Beav on Sunday. Best of the day was a cabernet barrel aged farmhouse ale. Nice woody backbone and then great wine/dark fruit notes to complement the sweet, peachy bright fruit notes of the base ale. The red wine was really prominent and paired really nicely with the base beer, it was really fun. They also had a Citra Wheat IPA that was alright but not exceptional. Needed to be a bit more wheaty and a bit more hoppy, but it was very drinkable. Still have no idea how GRB floats under the CO beer radar when they manage to consistently put out such good stuff.

Tsssss, stores around here get massive amounts of GLBC (oddly close to "GLBT" if you ask me) products but I've never seen any of the rare/seasonal ones outside of the christmas ale or whatever it's called. And also what does BIF stand for? I've seen the acronym many a time but internet beer people say acronyms for the most obscure things.

In other news a local store finally got Old Rasputin (again) and I'm blasting it now. What a taste sensation, and only $10 a pack! I can certainly see why this one is such a gold standard for the style.

I also find Sierra Nevada Narwhal to be a good 'under the radar' stout, if seasonal. Same with Oskar Blues Ten Fidy, but that one ends up being priced at around $16/pack here.

Also, krustster, might I suggest multi-quoting in one post instead of multi-posting? Don't recall if it's an applicable rule in GWC, but it's just good aesthetics.

The whole Gose style really makes me excited. The traditional brewing methods are ridiculously awesome and the glass it was originally bottled in is so cool. Leipziger's Gose is excellent and I'm likely going to buy the wacky bottle just to have one around. It reminds me of my papou's grappa bottles he brings home from Greece.

I recently got to try the tequila barrel aged version of this - Goseator. It was really awesome, and was my first ever tequila barrel aged beer. The tequila barrel added a nice citrus note, and it played really well with the salty character of the Gose.

It is a very pricey beer, I think it was around $17/375. I'm glad to have tried it, but I wouldn't purchase it again at that price point.

You may indeed suggest it, and usually I try to do that but I've grown used to posting in high-tech, fast-paced threads where multiple posts are the best technique, so I often forget.

I managed to obtain some Narwhal a couple of months ago from a party store that has a really odd mix of lovely/average beers and rare medallions. Today I went in there and they had a full rack of Sweet Repute, four of the Goose Island "sisters", and a random six pack of Expedition, but not really anything else that seemed worth buying. Their spirits selection is second to none though (???). It's a delicious feature for sure, and it was only $10 for a four pack!

I might get shot for this but my favorite underrated/under the radar stout is Lion Stout, an export thing from Sri Lanka which we have year-round and comes in bombers for $4.50 and four packs of 500ml cans for $9. Even without taking the price into consideration, it's one of my favorite beers, period. There does seem to be a lot of "infected" ones going around though so reviews tend to be mixed.

After this uncalled-for tirade, you seem more deserving of mass ignore. Your post was off-topic and pointless. Heaven forbid someone is excited about a good beer. Your thumb-the-nose self-important attitude comes across in spades, and is reminiscent of what's terrible about the craft beer scene. How DARE anyone post about a beer they bought without standing in line for six hours? Nobody appreciates this sort of thing, even if it's a dogpile on someone you see as universally despised in the thread. That's tantamount to bullying, and it's just silly, especially in respect to the comments to which you've taken offense. If we're going to circle jerk, why not make it about beer, and not about attacking people?

In other, happier news, my new favorite bar/pub apparently now has its FOURTH keg of BCBS. However, I'm checking out a new place tonight that is supposed to have 42 taps, and includes Yeti and Double Jack as regular domestic draws. While it started a couple years ago, the sea change of quality beer at otherwise pretty average establishments has been an interesting (and delicious) one to watch.

As far as Daisy Cutter, its a solid hoppy pale ale that doesn't get distributed far and has a big home fanbase. Sooo it probably has a better word of mouth than it really is. That said I chug it all spring and summer because I am a big fan. Plenty of other stuff to try if you were meh on it hahah.

After sifting through the responses from the sign up for the Philly bottle share it looks like January 11th has been selected as the date. I've thrown together another form for people who are definitely coming to coordinate bottles and so I can get a final count for reservations. I was surprised by the total number of responses. There are a lot of lurkers out there who want to drink beers with goons.

The plan is to find a BYOB with cheap food. If you have any ideas on a place you can add those but I'm trying to keep it within the city so nothing in the northeast or on the main line.

New sheet is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AntSnKdZTbwBdHM0eS1ScmVOQVhVSVFsWUhJWktVcWc&usp=sharing

Speaking of which, this could also be a case of liking one set of hop flavors more than the other. Brief research indicates Heady likely uses Citra and other citrus hops, while Daisy Cutter uses more bitter (Simcoe, etc) hops.
